Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Partial House Move, UK to Ireland

Struggling a bit here lads…so would appreciate your knowledge and insights!

Moved here a few years ago, but still have a few remnants in a UK storage unit which needs moving to an Irish or NI storage unit. Having the items stored in NI wouldn't be a huge problem as we could slowly move the items south as we regularly go to NI.

We approximately need to move a LWB Van worth of furniture and boxes.

A few options we are considering:

A: Ireland to Ireland long weekend van hire (€250) and then return ferry (€500). However, struggling to find a rental company who will allow us to take the van to the UK. Also, inconsistent info around customs/tax when arriving back into Ireland with laden van.

B: UK to Belfast one way van rental. Comes in around €1000 with one way fee and flight to UK and ferry.

C: Belfast to Belfast long weekend hire. Again, comes in around €1000 with hire and return ferry crossing.

D: Professional courier. €2000+, cost prohibitive.

Has anyone any recent experience (post Brexit) of doing such a move?

I moved here last year from the Netherlands. We rented a van from vanrentals.ie, no problem driving it through the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. We didn't want to open the can of worms regarding paperwork, so we only drove the van through the UK empty (although at the ferry terminal it turned out we still needed a piece of paper that said the van was empty - luckily the guy in the booth wasn't troubled at all with creating that form for us) and came back via France. But that's no help for you. But at least you now know where you can get a van.

hired off vanrentals.ie before too and they were great to deal with. Van I hired hadn’t been returned so they gave me the next size up for the same price.

Found the likes of Allen Removals very expensive for a move within Ireland so I can well imagine doing this yourself will be much cheaper.

Can’t help you with customs though but good luck with the journey.

Do the usual vehicle checks before you leave too, lights, washer fluid, tyre pressure etc.
