Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thiago is having to pick up the slack of having a broken Fab/Hendo partnership, or working with two kids. I think he's doing moderately well in a completely unbalanced, often dysfunctional midfield, all things considered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,511 ✭✭✭✭noodler

The other main point of the argument is that Thiago has been instrumental on everything the club has achieved in recent years.

From coming back into an defence-ravahed team in Feb/March 2021 and steering us to top four to the incredible season last time out.

For 20m he has been an outstanding signing. If he'd stay another year or two it's a no brainer for me.

As others have said, we already need three midfielders, there is no reason to make that four when you have someone like him already on the books.

My biggest griper is that he has somehow not been a good signing, he has. Even if things have collapsed around him (twice) since his signing.

If we took Thiago out and got in three runners into the midfield, we’d end up with no creativity there so we’d just be creating a different problem.

He has been excellent when supported properly with proper midfielders.

However, he is getting older so the club needs to be thinking long term about who will replace him maybe the year after next.

The only thing that really annoys me about Thiago is his robustness. He missed 3 games earlier in the season with an ear infection when we were struggling. I’ve never heard of that before, maybe it didn’t happen?

But for £20m he’s been a very solid buy and he’s been decent this year even though the team has struggled.

I think tonight is the night for Darwin. I can see him running Coleman into the ground if there’s and space there him and their right sided CB.

    Any thoughts on team tonight?

    Alisson

    TAA, Gomez, Matip, Robbo

    Hendo, Fabinho, Bajcetic

    Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Or will Elliot or Keita start ahead of Fabinho or Bajcetic?

Thiago is a great player but he's a luxury player. When you have a solid functioning midfield he elevates it to world class, if your struggling he doesn't stand out though, his passing isn't as accurate and he isn't that good defensively.

I'd be open to selling him.

I've seen enough of Gomez this season tbh. Just isn't consistently good enough.

Only problem is Matip has actually been worse than Gomez lately, he has been very poor! If VVD is fit id go with VVD and Phillips....

Time for big Nat Philips to shine tonight

I actually can't believe we have to face a Sean Dyche Everton at all, never mind at basically our lowest point under Klopp, livid 😆

Looks like same old formation again.

At least Jota, Firminho are on the bench

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,052 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Not a lot of mobility in that midfield… very much defensively leaning with double 6’s. Hopefully they can at least keep things tight, even if they’ll be likely limited going forward.

Looks sort of like a plan to keep it 0-0 till 70 minutes and then go for it with changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,956 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

That's a midfield that requires a lot of output from TAA and Robertson, let's just hope they can provide the cover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,801 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

This is the lowest I've felt in a long time going into a Merseyside derby game. I just don't know where the performance is going to come from. So many of that 11 out of sorts! Only positive it the lads back on the bench.

What are the odds that Salah will be sold in the summer to fund our spending?

He got a new contract which guarantees Liverpool a good transfer fee and he got a good salary for him to say to his next club you have to at least match what I'm on at Liverpool if not better it.

If Messi was to leave PSG I could see them making a move.

Big big words here, great to read

"UEFA was responsible for the Champions League final fiasco in Paris last May, while Liverpool supporters were ‘instrumental’ in saving lives on the night, an official inquiry commissioned by the European football governing body has found."

Last night I dreamed we win this match 4-0..

    I'm quietly confident.

Training looked great all week, lets see that attitude on the pitch tonight.

Looking forward to this, derby game and form is.out.the window, hopefully a blessing for us. Put in a solid performance and with the bodies coming back should be a lil boost..

    Let's Go!!!

Poor auld Joel's head is scrambled at the moment.

Lovely typical Matip run forward soon after though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,503 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Bit more snap to us so far, at least

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,801 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

I said it earlier but he has been a bigger defensive liability than Gomez this season. Looks zapped of all confidence and looks so uncomfortable defending the most basic situations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,052 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Early moments, but Gakpo looks sharper today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,306 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

    Nunez causing problems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,956 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

If Nunez can't get the beating of a very old Coleman I'll be worried

Robertson hustling, ref gives free kick, wtf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,052 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Bajcetic very good so far as well. Lovely vision to go with his defensive work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,497 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Dirty foul on Hendo off the ball, typical Everton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,564 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Bajetic not looking too bad tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,149 ✭✭✭Augme

    Jesus Henderson, get up.

"No such thing as a foul for being stronger than the other person"

Gakpo just got called for a foul for that reason in the same spot 3 minutes ago

    Great pace to Liverpool's play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,504 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Hendo leaving one on Pickford might just be the best moment of our season so far.

    That’s some fall from grace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,876 ✭✭✭hynesie08

Quick, keeping possession, decent passing, look up for it......

    Everton goal incoming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,497 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Pickford would be rolling around like a child in same situation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,411 ✭✭✭facehugger99

Alisson should have clutched his face there. Would have been a definite yellow.

    Too classy.

Those are usually a yellow card ref for going into a keeper like that

    ******

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 677 ✭✭✭FernandoTorres

Trent's passing accuracy has been horrendous so far. Breaking down a lot of our attacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,801 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Shouldn't have to clutch his face. That should have been yellow as it was!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,801 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

This is the most intense we have played for a long time. Bajcetic and Nunez very sharp so far. Salah looking decent too......now to just wait until Everton sucker punch us with a goal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,052 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Offside of course, but that was some finish from Henderson on his left foot there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,949 ✭✭✭dogbert27

This is like playing a Sean Dyche Burnley.

We'll finish the game with 87% possession 31 shots on goal and still lose 1-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,801 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

It has that kinda of feel to it alright!

And our aul nemesis Maupay will come off the bench to get it too!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,504 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Nunez seems almost incapable of playing a short, safe pass. He really needs to learn when to just put the brakes on and recycle.

    Love his work ethic though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,497 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

    SALAH!!!!!!!!
