I suppose this isn't really a TA( not sure how to describe it really) but my mother doesn't recognise me anymore.

    Ah Jesus that's heartbreaking 😢

It has to be one of the worst illnesses.

    Hugs 😢

Thanks, She's in a home with 5 years.

She's had COVID a few times and falls every so often trying to get out of her chair or bed.

It's a tiled floor so she's split her head a few times.

Worst part then is she has to go to hospital and has to self isolate every time she comes back for 5 days.

I can visit her then but I have to wear full protective gear and I'm unrecognisable even to someone without dementia.

    She's tough out though.

She fell recently and got a black eye and 3 stitches.

I said to her " you'd a nasty fall" to which she replied "I didn't hear anything about that". 🙊

Sorry Blade, I hadn't seen your post when I posted that video, I didn't mean to sound flippant.

I'm really, really sorry about your Mother. It really is heartbreaking, like Princess Calla said.

Lucky you. The last time my wife did that, they called evey week for a month to have a chat with her.

Until I was home one day, let's just say they got an earful and haven't been back since!

My wife is too nice, or maybe I'm too blunt 🤔

TA I'm now annoyed at JWs

My dad is the exact same.

Broken ribs and punctured lungs also. In and out of hospital, at this stage now he's DNR that's from his medical team, not us.

There's a big gap between myself and siblings, he remembers them but is adamant the youngest of them is the youngest and he had no more children after that. So not only does he not recognize me, he has no memory of me what so ever.

You just have to get on with it and muddle along as best you can. Hold onto the good memories. No point in upsetting yourself over something they have no control over.

Sorry to hear about your dad Calla.

I suppose the only thing, for me anyway, is she is comfortable as possible where she is.

When I call, after a while she would say I better go now.

I'd say to her then "are you ok if I go now" and she'd say "yes I'm fine".

I don't know what I'd do if she was crying to get out of there.

I think people leave the suits/ties for close family.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,490 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

I have heard of people getting a simple recording for family who can't be there.

However there's a trend now where the undertaker and cam crew turn up your house in the morning and take pictures of you getting ready and talking to neigbhours, drone shots are included. However funerals often include horse and carriages, expensive coffins, fake tan and loads of sun glasses.

Realistically none of us are equipped to look after them at this stage. Anyone I know who has tried it didn't work out as they were a danger to themselves and to the rest of the house hold...that's before you even start on the medical/carer side of things.

The nursing home is the best option. Routine does them benefit them too.

A certain state employee…..I was asked by one to send a photograph of a piece of healthcare equipment used by a family member so that it can be replaced… the equipment itself and the sticker with serial number etc…. I take the photos… the individual has given me their mobile number and on attempting to enter it in my phone it’s there already there from a previous dealing with their predecessor….

yet, they are not on WhatsApp. I double check the numbers as in the phone and on the piece of paper… both correct..The photos won’t send on sms due to their size… I can’t manually add this person to WhatsApp…

I ring them…. I advise that I’m trying to send… “ whats, app ?” They answer quizzically …”Ohhh the messages thing, alright, alright, no, haven’t got that, can you text me the serial number ? “. 😵‍💫

its like a fückin circus of delirium…. Fella eventually visits and on me asking the family “ was the guy old ? “…. “ no, about 45 to 50 nice fellow. “

What sort of government departments are hiring people who have work mobiles but don’t have / but don’t know how to use WhatsApp ? ?

Like dealing with someone from 1982 😳…

Only thing I can figure is maybe the older folks he generally deals with don’t, but who knows. If the fuçker has no WhatsApp….. maybe he has no email 😵‍💫 he didn’t offer me it.

I would have thought that WA wouldn't be allowed on a work phone (privacy, etc), whereas emails can be managed/filtered at server (whatev) level and would be allowed.

This is the case in my workplace - so I don't bother with it at all.

People with impossible accents in global roles, preferably delivering technical training. There is a whole group of them and one look at everyone’s face makes it clear that nobody understands anything.

    What could possibly go wrong

Is WhatsApp not safe because of GDPR or whatever? Just wondering? But like you I recently have been thinking of contacting a state run crowd for info.

But to my surprise only option seems to be ringing them. Email does not seem to be an option.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

@Scorpion Sting@Strumms don't get me started. I'm carer for elderly uncle, unfortunately have many dealings with parallel universe that is the HSE.

The nurse in the eye clinic keeps her patient notes in a ledger. Not joking.

Don’t know, last job where I had a work phone people used WhatsApp anyway. Certainly thought it would be kosher for state employees…?

Michael McIntyre, how the thundering fûck is he all over TV so much ? The accent, intonation, body language, mannerisms, smugness, unfunniness …. And overall annoyingness….

looking at his audience it looks like a load of 50 year olds, just delighted to leave the house for 3 hours of a Wednesday night..
