Scope Rings

Guys, I got Sportmatch rings with my scope. All good and there’s not alot in it but I know in my head they need to be dropped ever so slightly, 10mm would be perfect.

I just want to make sure I’m getting the right height rings and with all the weaver, dovetail, Picatinny talk, I’m going around in circles 😃

    My current set up

The rings are 55mm high in total from the point of the grip to the top of the ring. The distance from the point of the grip to the underside of the tube is 25mm.

Heres a close up of the connection.

I am connected in on the top protrusion and I’m assuming my only option is this connection? Is there an option to go to the lower point, essentially where the rings will be connected touching the receiver?

Basically I want to make sure I’m ordering the correct connection types and then height.

    All advice welcome.

    Thanks.

I'm not aware of a way of attaching rings direct to the 10/22 receiver. Although it's a 10/22 so one never knows! I'd suggest the Warne rimfire rings are about the lowest available, maybe Burris rimfire?

It’s not that I wanted to connect to the receiver. It was. Ore making sure I wasn’t connecting to the higher grip while I could have been connecting to the lower profile if you get me.

I think I have a set sourced from a forum member now please god 😀

Could drop those rings down a good bit. Not sure if the best option for that base

The lower edge of the rail can take picatinny rings, a better option IMO

That’s the bit I was confused about 😃

So I can try a picatinny mount now. Thanks.

This is my set up on my 308. I'm using a pic rail and pic medium mounts. Note how close to barrel etc.

You have a weaver rail. The mounts you have are not suitable.

The choice is new mounts as previously advised but I'd go one step further and spring for a pic rail. They are not crazy expensive for a 10 22. Then at least you have the best rail for mounting any scope or sight. You will see already from the ruger weaver that you have limited slot options.

Don't go too low with mounts though. I assume you will get scope pop covers and they add a few mm, as you can see from the photo. Also, lower mounts bring you closer to the comb and depending on your head or frame size you may need to watch that.

    Perfect thank you.

I had considered swapping on a pic rail but obviously trying to reduce the spending further 😃

Would these be the correct set?

Sorry, I prob wasn't clear. I meant between the thick base and the high rings, the scope is pretty high and you could drop it by swapping the rings. Not that you could adjust those ones specifically. The low dovetail mount would knock off 10-15mm. But I'd prob try to push it further, depends how low you want it.

The bottom part is a weaver rail. using that will lower it a bit, then the ring height can adjust further.

They look much better and they fit. Looking at your set up. I would be using medium size ones as well myself. Perhaps removing the iron sights as well.

Personally I stick with pic rails and mounts. It just gives complete interchangeability between all my gear. I have 4 sights and all fit on all my rails. However some will not fit on weaver rails as the crossbar in the mount is too thick. Keep this in mind for the future. Spend now, save later etc.

You might find this useful. https://www.optics-trade.eu/blog/weaver-rings-vs-picatinny-rings/

I have bought a lot of gear from these guys as I know have a few more guys on boards. The advice is fairly solid.

The key of course is to enjoy your new rifle. I might open a book on whether you will last a full year without getting another baby with longer reach ...

My neighbor (who got me into this) has also said the same! He said my safe be full within 2/3 years 🤣

Just another tip. I have 4 guns in my 12 gun safe. Might fit one more. Scopes eat up space...

I learned that fitting my one gun in a 3 gun safe!

remember you always have the option of fitting a cheek riser at any stage to get your perfect head eye scope inline.

No mater what rings you use your eye and scope line may need a little bit of tweaking.

Sorry, should have added best of luck with it. You've rekindled my want for a 10/22!

I think a riser will be required no matter how low I go. Got sorted today in sportsman in Finglas.

Gunshop have the Magpul risers too, 2 pack of different heights for €32 so that’s next on the list!

Thanks. Got sorted today so I’ll take a pic later to close out the thread.

I know the 10/22 is the Nissan Micra of the rifle world but it got lots of love by various customers in store today 😃

Thanks to the good folk on here and the advice given and also the generosity of @Asus1 which aided in my decision making 😀

I realised the weaver Mount and dovetail Mount was a hybrid contraction from Ruger. So I was able to get a better fit on the bottom rail using rings from sportsman in Finglas.

I probably could have gone lower again but these are a significant improvement now I think.

Thanks again folks. I’m sure it won’t be my last question.
