Exporting a classic to UK

I have a classic car (1972) that I bought in NI about ten years ago. It’s a non runner, always has been. I’ve never got around to restoring it as planned, and now realise iI never will, so I’ve sold it to a guy in the UK. Like so many others, the car was never registered here and is still on UK (not NI) plates. I have the V5. If I was to put it on a trailer and deliver it over to the UK, do I have to involve a customs agent to leave the port of Dublin or is that only when bringing cars in now? Will there be any issues there ? And will British customs at Holyhead have anything to pull me up on ??

The Brits are not too good at checking anything coming into the country. Get the buyer to collect and save the headache

Buyer won’t do that, and I’m going over on the ferry anyway, he’s paying the extra cost of the trailer, so suits both of us. Just don’t want to be turned back either here or at Holyhead?

If you’re stopping and questioned can you just saying you’re transporting to whoever for restoration work?

The customs don’t need to know you’re selling it. Since the car is on a trailer, the registration is moot, you might as well have a generator on there.

There must be dozens of cars going into the UK every week from here for racing and specialised work etc. I’d say you’ll be fine.
