Of course they have, but the ref has made it incredibly difficult for them to succeed here.

Wales getting away with a lot of lazy running, living offside a good deal also.

Joy Neville has to tell ref to take another look at that Williams collision at a minimum

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,582 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The ref is at fault for that fight.

Looked like some deliberate dropping of elbows/knees on players in the last few phases too.

Good try Italy again, again they need another quick score to follow this one

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,556 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

I think both sides deserve a wooden spoon

Should be a yellow for Wales for the repeat infringements in the 22.

Wales blessed not to have a yellow by now (if not more than one tbh)

But good lord Italy are stupid with the ball.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,038 ✭✭✭fitz

    Christ, Italy.

But also, that was off the foot. Play on, ref, FFS.

Cappuzo would scored a bag ful today you feel. Welsh there for the taking whenever Italy run at them

Ref has been fine, no matter how much we all want Wales to lose.

Italy just have zero composure when they get into any sort of position.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,556 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

    This is URC level rugby.

Two average sides just playing poorly and wales are winning because they did less bad things than italy

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,536 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Italy can have no composure and the ref can be crap at the same time. He is riding Italy in comparison to Wales and its not even subtle

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,265 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

In fairness that’s not the consensus amongst most people watching here and elsewhere…

can’t be shown to make that many errors including some that went a long way to contributing to to result and him be ‘fine’.

Ref hasn't been the decider, but saying he's been fine is a little generous.

Damage done in the first half. Wales were jammy to get as far ahead as they did by halftime, and did just enough to hang on against an Italy side that put in their worst performance of the competition so far. Wales are still muck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Yeah they could just cough up penalties with impunity in the Red Zone and never even warned.

They didn’t really need to though. Italy would have found a way to cock it up one way or another.

Italy being so uncompetitive so long is bad for the competition. But it will dent their confidence in fair treatment with refs like this one.

He was fine. People just see what they want to see. He made some mistakes like every ref ever. He absolutely didn't ride Italy.

    Like you said

But also, that was off the foot. Play on, ref, FFS.

For what was very obviously a knock on.

You could argue the biggest call was not giving the Italian guy a red and that went their way

  • Registered Users Posts: 394 ✭✭Tommybojangles

Who's was the ref? What an absolute shocker he had. Italys improvement in their attack is so frustrating when you pair it with their silly mistakes and game management.

Reaching for the line instead of recycling in the first half, the winger taking adams out in the air with advantage, the 2 panicked knock ons in the last few minutes were all stuff that clinical teams would never do

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭ersatz

The Italian mistakes cost them the match without a doubt. Wales are always a jammy team but they take their chances while Italy had them on the rack numerous times and brainfarted their way to a loss. Crowley has done a great job with them but you'd have to look to the coaching when you see games being lost for consistency poor judgement and composure. It's a delicate balance between risk taking and reward but they were guilty of some howlers that you'd drop under 16s for.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,038 ✭✭✭fitz

Yeah, like I said not the decider, but he wasn't fine, and yeah, should have been a red imo too. But again, that's just re-enforcing the view that we wasn't great.

As for that "knock on" it didn't look like it touched any Italian players hand before coming off the boot. Play on and check if needed, like.

    Great start by France.

Unless there's a card or something, I reckon they'll spank England here.

French win with no BP would be optimal from an Ireland perspective.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,038 ✭✭✭fitz

I reckon they'll disappoint us in that regard. Can see them getting the BP fairly handy. First try was effortless. They won't need much opportunity to get over for tries against this English side.

Massively late hit on Dupont there, surprised it wasn't penalized.

Twould be nice to see England getting the **** kicked out of them and demoralised not knowing what team to select next Saturday.

Marcus Smith offers nothing in broken play.

    Nothing.
