Eircode and Broadband providers

I am in a new estate, well not that new, people have been here since 2018, but development was slowed by the pandemic. So we moved in

November 2021.

The bit I don't understand is our Eircode shows up with no broadband provider, or any comparison site. Despite being on the Eircode site, and it

being issued 18 months ago. This includes Virgin, whose service I actually have, but I never had to order as I told them I was moving and filled in

the form, plugged the modem in and it just worked.

How long does it normally take for an Eircode to show up with providers? I'd like to shop around.

Have you checked neighbouring eircodes?

Yes, and actually when I check quite early on only the phase one houses were showing up, but now my next door neighbours on both sides show up on the Virgin site, but my eircode says invalid eircode.

I guess this is starting to sound like more of an Eircode issue than a broadband issue.

Oh, it actually does show up there. But if I put it in the Eir website it says the eircode couldn't be found. So its simply missing from

some sort of data export that a bunch of utilities have it seems.

What does it indicate for your house? FTTH available or not available or coming at some point in the future?

Open-eir supply the database to all retail providers like eir, Vodafone etc.

No FTTH, just that it will be here before 2026.

Also check the SIRO website, FTTH wholesale joint venture between the ESB and Vodafone. They're rolling out a separate FTTH network over the electricity network.

The issue you are describing is basically an eircode indexation delay. The time between when you get an eircode but companies didn't update their systems yet with it.

Unfortunately there are homes who literally see Gigabit Cables on the main street, but can't sign up because their home was recently built after Fibre was already rolled out.

Wholesale companies can take anything between 2 months to 2 years to update their system with new eircodes aka index them.

You can't really make a manual request either, you normally just have to wait until it happens naturally. Some do it faster than the others.

Virgin Media as you are aware usually has a monopoly over new urban builds.

SIRO and OpenEir are your alternatives but you'll need to wait until they are rollout to your home. And at very least loads your eircode so it doesn't say invalid on their systems.

It’s a bit ridiculous that they can't send someone out to visually survey the site. Most of it could be done by someone just driving to the location and looking. It’s very easy to see someone’s on the network.

There’s an element of private bureaucracies gone made and “computa says no!!” about it and they’re literally turning away business!

That true, at a previous address I remember having an argument with UPC on the phone were they said an address didn't exist, and I said I was standing in the living room.
