Ashley Zlatopolsky in 3 Reasons to Start Reading a Book Before Bed, Real Simple (online) 3 March 2023, provides an interesting discussion with citations.

    1. Reading, but not too late, can help you fall asleep faster. This applies to reading an actual book, not a screen.
    2. Reading can reduce stress and calm racing thoughts.
    3. Reading can boost cognitive function.

“…the use of an iPad which emits blue enriched light impinges directly on sleepiness…”

Part of a conclusion from Gronli, Janne, el al, Reading from an iPad or book in bed… Sleep Medicine 21 86-92 2016.

Kindle is best in bed for me. I turn the bedside light off and read on a low setting. Nodding off I just close the lid and...zzzz.

What’s the screen color for Kindle? Can you change color?

My old Paperwhite Kindle is just greyscale - light adjustment setting from 1 to 24. I find 8 is about right for bed reading.

Personally, I have not yet tried Kindle reading. Something on my bucket list.

I read with the bedside light off. I have an old paperwhite kindle with a backlight. It automatically turns itself off if you haven't turned a page in a certain time. The light never bothers me falling asleep while reading it. Best thing ever. I have it yonks.

I’m a dinosaur. I like opening a bound book and reading until I get sleepy. Sometimes falling asleep with the book on my chest.

I have become lazy about reading. But recently I have discoverd audiobooks and the Borrowbox App. So set a timer and it turns itself off. Or better for sleep inducing are certain podcasts such as Casefiles where the Australian narrator has a particularly sleep inducing tone to his voice!
