    Looking forward to hurling later.

A proper test in Nolan Park. A win would be huge lift.

Enjoyable first half. Kilkenny really wanting to win it seems whereas Cork not killing themselves. Ref has been very poor giving a lot of frees in particular to Kilkenny. Once we were in on goal and he called it back for a free for us. Another one it looked like Power fell over and he gave us a free.

No pressure being really put on Kilkenny players a lot of the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Cahalane as usual doing bread dead stuff. Deserved a red card clearly. Not sure why ref let him off . As I sad, the ref is very poor

Footballers draw with Derry with a goal from the last kick of the game. not great for most of it and a mix of Derry relaxing when 7 up and us making a few changes brought us back into it.

Camogie beaten by a point, conceded a soft goal messing with the ball in defence. will play Galway again in the league final in two weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

its all well and good standing up to them but we could do without any suspensions for the championship. Kilkenny only have Westmeath first up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Someone needs to tell the Cork players that it isnt a training match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

I don't mind losing once there was a good effort put in with defeat. Im not sure with the Cork performance today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

I have thought from the start that Cork are not really trying to win other than the new players. It does look like we are treating it as a training match for the most part. Most Kilkenny players are under no pressure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,153 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Disappointed with that...I just can't see this squad winning an All Ireland this year. Think they are very fragile...questions get asked and unfortunately they can't answer them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,424 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Ya its hard to read too much into today.

Hate saying this but might be blessing after Limericks performance last night.

We won't really know where Cork are until end of Munster.

This year was never about lifting Liam but to get more physical and get bit nearer to Limerick. I think we have but only so slightly.

The real answer is to come.

Disappointing to lose and pick up a suspension.

They were certainly not going full throttle and have used the league well.

I think that we are in a better position now than this time last year but the real challenges are yet to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Disapointing result but overall it's been a decent league campaign. We do have some of the more experienced players still to come back, and if we have a decent championship then today will be quickly forgotten about! Well done to the footballers, on coming back to get a draw against Derry though.

It's been quarter of a century since our most recent league title in hurling. Ah well that's just the way it is. I think we have the right management teams in place in both senior codes, but there'll probably be a few more bumps along the road, before we return to glory in both codes.

Not sure another game v Limerick ahead of the championship was ideal, suspect the management know this too

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,309 ✭✭✭Cork2021

That was poor by Cork, sauntered around the pitch. Cahalane I still don’t know how he gets a start! Patrick Collins looked laboured as well. Overall very poor.

I suppose getting to the league final last year didn’t help us but you’d expect more!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,676 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Think we need a new keeper. Collins was so so poor today, hitting the ball out of play when the mans standing out in front of him is braindead stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

I would have preferred if Cork went all out to win today. We needed to be at our best to beat Kilkenny at Nowlan Park. Kilkenny were just that bit sharper and scored well when it mattered. I'm sure not everyone will agree with me but 1998 is along time ago since a league title. I know we would have got Limerick in the final and highly unlikely we would have won it but you got to get there first to have a chance.

Kilkenny will give it a right crack in the final and like the All Ireland final last year who knows what might happen? Cork aren't going to win an All Ireland this year, let's be realistic about this. We just aren't good enough at the moment.

We can be ready come championship but no guarantee we will get out of Munster. I prefer we try and win silverware when we can and there would be nothing wrong with league title for this Cork team if they had gone after it. All Munster teams will be strong so no guarantee we are getting out of Munster. Hope I'm wrong.

felt cork looked like a team in heavy training today , had all the anger about them for a game against kilkenny but didnt seem to have the legs for the battle

today was the first real test in my opinion for the two blarney boys , Barrett and Power , i think both passed the test against probably the toughest back 6 in the game at the moment

ryan has defiantly improved areas that needed fixing under kingston its going to be interesting to see if cork have that next gear to really challenge this summer , big ask with limerick lurking around but huge steps of improvement made through out the league

  • In all fairness, Cork are going nowhere when the likes of Cahalane is named in the backs. Simply not good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,119 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Look who's missing in that half back line on fairness

What are people's hopes for Cork this year in hurling championship? Getting out of Munster? I can't see them doing anything more than that if they pull that off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Outside of Limerick i think we're well capable of beating anyone. The main thing is to make sure we get out of Munster and then take things from there. I don't agree with this talk that it was good that we lost, just because it meant that we avoided Limerick. Limerick are a challenge that we have to try and face up to and deal with, i see no point in trying to hide from them.

Limerick have been the standard setters in hurling in the last five years, and that's the level we have to get to. Hurling has changed so much from the sport i grew up watching though.

I remember against Waterford in 1999 when we gave six players their championship debuts. You couldn't do that in the modern era, because the game has gotten so physical in the last seventeen or so years. The young fellas would just be eaten alive!

Those great Kilkenny teams under Brian Cody and the current Limerick team under John Kiely, have totally transformed and changed the landscape of hurling. We have struggled to adapt to that changing landscape. In the more modern era of hurling, you have to earn the right to hurl before you can hurl!

Win Munster and show signs that we can at least compete with Limerick. That would be decent progress for this year i think.

Given our injuries then getting out of Munster would be great, anymore a bonus. Expose the young players to senior hurling and be patient with them.

Keep an eye out for Barry O'Flynn from Sars - he is something special.

A great talent for the future - he has it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

You are on the ball Shamo! He looks very good. Seems to have all the time in the world when he has the sliotar.

    Cork 2-11 Waterford 0-10

We should be even further ahead. A lot of wides. Forwards all look good. Hartley for Waterford very good too, Brilliant save from the Cork keeper to keep them from getting a goal

3-19 to 0-15 FT. great start to the championship

    Big win in the end

    Cork 3-19 Waterford 0-15

A lot of solid performances throughout the team

He was great and Barry Walsh got me out my seat down the Pairc - that was some pair of goals. We were far better than Waterford all over the pitch in fairness.

  • Registered Users Posts: 675 ✭✭✭supernova5

Jesus lads they were 2 savage goals ye got in the first half..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Cork 1-9 Waterford 1-10 HT. Waterford the better side in the 1st half but a goal from Colin Walsh and a couple of points before halftime has us right back in the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

conditions not great but our handling is poor compared to Waterford. 1-11 each after 40 min

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

we are 2 up with 10 to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Cork 1-17 Waterford 1-13 FT. did enough to win but a little fortunate also, Waterford with a few poor wides in the 2nd half and were 1 pass away from a goal in injury time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Mac_Lad71

    Good win in poor conditions.

    Cork 1-17 - Waterford 1-13.

Hopefully the game will bring us on a bit.

Minors v impressive last night in a 13 point victory also over Waterford.

    Rebels Abu.

Watched the u20 game tonight. Cork did very well to come back into it after Waterford goal. Good win at the end. Waterford were better team in first half but Cork definitely the better team in the second half and closed it out. Waterford had some bad misses as well, in another day they be converted. Nice to get the campaign off to a winning start in both grades v Waterford.

He's a serious player alright Shamo. Has all the signs to be a great hurler going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

I agree with that and if they go further would be a bonus.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,248 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Good win tonight. It can take a while to get in to the first game and conditions weren't great, but a win is a win nonetheless.

Both the Minors and U20 sides look like they will be a match for most teams going forward.

I'm thinking of going to the league final Limerick vs kilkenny in pairc Ui chaoimh next week.

Have you any tips for getting to and from the train station to pairc ui chaoimh.

Don't fancy doing a lot of walking before or after the game.

If you walk across the bridge to merchants quay shopping centre you can get the 202 bus to the venue bar on blackrock road, which is 5 mins walk from the stadium

Not confident but we should have enough to get through. I think Cleary said Brian Hurley is only 50/50. Big loss if he doesn't make it
