Mass immigration is dropping people from different cultures into a town, drastically increasing it's population.

Plenty of illegals here, and then those tearing up travel docs on arrival.

  • Registered Users Posts: 194 ✭✭JohnnyFortune

You don't think governments should be looking at who is entering the country? Should we scrap passports? Visas? Airport Security?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,814 ✭✭✭Ahwell

No, they are Asylum seekers, as per Article 31 of the UN Refugee Convention refugees cannot be penalised for entering the country illegally to claim asylum if they are “coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened” provided they “present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence”.

According to the Garda there has been no significant increase in crime statistics as a result of the increase in asylum seekers arriving in Ireland. The Department of Justice also said there is no evidence of a link between the number of asylum seekers in Ireland and an increase in crime.

You seem to be about as well informed as kellie harrington is.

But she said in her statement that she wasn’t being political in the remarks you outlined above.

Does this mean she was lying?

  • Registered Users Posts: 632 ✭✭✭squidgainz

When did I say any of that? When did Kellie say any of that? Your questions are hysterical.

    Well you've taken umbrage at

Kellie stating that  “Very, very sad. A powerful message from Eva Vlaardingerbroek. Our own leaders need to take a listen to this. She believes this is the 12th girl in France this year who has been killed by an immigrant.. And that’s just France.”

Eva's message was "I woke up this morning to see the news of another young European girl who was sacrificed on the altar of mass migration. We have four people in custody, all migrants coming from Algeria.

“This is the 12th girl I believe in France that has been killed this year by an immigrant and that’s just France.”

The job of the government is to keep it's citizens safe, do you not think that it needs to ensure anyone coming here is not a threat to Irish citizens??

He's turning 30 this year he said himself a while ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,814 ✭✭✭Ahwell

To repeat...According to the Garda there has been no significant increase in crime statistics as a result of the increase in asylum seekers arriving in Ireland. The Department of Justice also said there is no evidence of a link between the number of asylum seekers in Ireland and an increase in crime.

Can the Gardai predict the future, minority report style, because it's happened in every other European country. Will Ireland be some magical outlier in the world? Look at the court notices in any newspaper, lots of foreign names coming up and the amount climbing week on week.

Also, if the above is correct wouldn't it be excellent to keep it that way, and stay vigilant about who we let in. Pity it's too late for the men in Sligo.

I find it telling that the OTB team were very active in defending Vera Pauw and her bullying of players when she was a coach in the USA but were happy to ambush Harrington about a tweet they have been aware of probably for months and have sat on waiting for the right time to garner maximum publicity and to damage her. You’d wonder what their motivation was.

There’s obviously a hierarchy of what the presenters consider to be acceptable and obviously going against the left / woke / insert appropriate term here / agenda of unconditional support for uncontrolled immigration is a totem that cannot be questioned.

It’s nice to see Hannon getting called out for his own unacceptable statements. He and his cronies reek of the self righteousness of the type shown by similar wokesters like Eoghan McDeemortt for example.

What "unacceptable statements" is Hannon getting called out for? I thought all the OTB folk were holier than thou and came straight from the womb directly in their little cult.

Edit: don't forget they were also quick to keep Cora Staunton as a pundit and back her after her making false public insinuations about her former Mayo manager who had the temerity to drop her from the team.

OTB need to get rid of the transphobe

Read back on the thread to the links to his older tweets (it’s ok though, he was young when he posted them).

Kellie Harrington can learn some tips about owning your remarks and recognising how language matters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,184 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Kellie Harrington doesn't feel like she has anything to apologize for though. She's not a broadcaster so expecting her to be able to deal with being ambushed of live radio in a smooth fashion is a it much to be asking from her, it would be like expecting Shane Hannon to be good at dodging a punch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Paterson Jerins

Owning his remarks? But he deleted the tweets.

Kellie just needs a better pr team to write statements like the otb folks have.

It's embarrassing the lengths people are going to defend him.

Just admit both have done silly things on social media and get on with it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Paterson Jerins

    Great post.

Very well said. Lovely to see Hanson getting called out and still his cronies defending him. Comical.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

You expect him to leave vile tweets he made as a 16 year old up? That makes zero sense. I'd want no further association with them. He can't ignore the fact he said them but he can remove himself from those remarks as a teenager from how he is now as an adult.

Kellie Harrington, meanwhile, said in her non-apology that nothing she said was political, which is an outright lie.

There's a big difference between owning what you said as a teenager and acting like you didn't say what you said as a person in your 30s.

And that's her prerogative. However, she said in her statement that she said her original tweet wasn't about a political opinion. That is a lie. We all know what she said.

Also, she wasn't ambushed. She made those public remarks. If you, as a public figure, make remarks in public then you should expect questions on them. She had six months to prepare her answer for this and the best she had was 'be like Elsa and Let It Go'.

She was ambushed, she appeared for puff piece interview promoting SPAR and had no idea that question was going to be asked, if she had known that sort of question was going to be asked she probably wouldn't have done the interview or had a prepared statement

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,067 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

If I could back 20 or 25 years and change 1 thing 1 option would be to rid the world of social media, the amount of holes its created for people is unbelievable.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,993 Mod ✭✭✭✭GoldFour4

Whatever about your opinions on Hanson’s tweets. His statement says a lot more in a lot less words than the essay Harringtons overpaid pr consultants pulled together.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,385 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Why do people keep talking about owning things?

Harrington was the darling of the do gooder liberal type - gay female boxer, working class etc.

It just shows how this outraged do gooder cohort can turn on you with the sniff of controversy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭Lil Fred

Not sure I’d agree. Just because the OTBd woke baes aren’t as woke the fanbois thought that shouldn’t cloud our judgement of their own past offensivenesses

This fela needs to have a debate on toxic masculinity among young Irish men.

  • Registered Users Posts: 302 ✭✭The Guru 123

Pathetic carry on going back almost 15 years through his tweets to catch him out on something he said when he was an adolescent.

Kellie’s tweet is from 6 months ago and it directly contradicts with what her role as a Spar ambassador is supposed to be which is what she was on the show to discuss.

Anyone equating the tweets from Kellie and Hannon is being incredibly disingenuous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 995 ✭✭✭Ragwort and Stones

That's just a nice polished statement from someone who received a better education than Kellie. As for what Mr. Shane Hannon really believes, who knows.

Kellie handled the OTB question poorly, mostly because she was out of her comfort zone.

I genuinely think she was appalled by the killing of the French girl but lack of research skills and savy led her to put out that tweet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,745 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

    What were Hannon's tweets?

Also, he absolutely was unprofessional in not flagging the question about her tweet in advance of the interview.

You expect him to leave vile tweets he made as a 16 year old up? That makes zero sense.

He did leave them up though. Unlike Harrington who deleted her one last October almost immediately. It was also addressed at the time and in the media at the time. Your man just takes them down now as it shows him perhaps not to be whatever image he is trying to project now. When they were actually highlighted by the public he was trying to stir up against Harrington.
