Is doesn't team like it's just a time frame issue though. The article above mentions that Quantumania finished principle shooting a year ago, I know nothing about VFX but if you have a good team surely that's plenty of time but there were definitely reshoots and a lot of editing of the plot. That combined with a small team stretched across too many projects.

It'd be a mix of things. Tight schedules; CG volume creep (Quantumania would likely have more CG shots than even the average Marvel film); sheer volume of MCU projects; and of course CG artists working under pandemic conditions until probably fairly recently. Marvel isn't the only game in town either, so plenty of other films and studios also vying for a finite amount of artists. Even ignoring any potential executive / management issues, you can see why effects have become a big burden for Marvel.

You can look at something like Avatar, which unquestionably has top-tier CG, and see the amount of work and time that goes into getting it right (the production schedule on Way of Water was very long indeed, even allowing for its sequel being shot simultaneously). Trying to manage 3x yearly films plus multiple TV shows... that's a lot of resources needed, so no surprise at all that the indications now are that they'll be dialling back on volume.

More info here, seems to have largely been down to her breaching contract by working with another studio.

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

This will obviously have huge ramifications for the MCU. With Quantumania, they've already shown the Council of Kangs where pretty much every single one of them were Jonathan Majors.

Then again, the DCEU is still going ahead with Ezra Miller...

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,214 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

I think with Ezra it's a bit different, as that film was essentially in the can bar reshoots before he really went off the rails. WB will do what they have to do to get their money back on that investment, and it's highly doubtful he'll play the role again.

I imagine Kang has at least 3 more big appearances that haven't been filmed. It's a different kind of pressure Disney and Marvel will be under now to get rid.

Even tho Marvel have been generally fumbling with the idea of multiverse they have done enough in Loki with all the other Loki's to potentially just about get away with completely recasting Kang.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,018 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah I did think of that, but then some of the things Miller was accused of were arguably worse as well. Until we hear more about the charges and see what else starts to come out, Disney & Marvel might think of just going with it so long as Majors goes on a big apology tour and stays out of further trouble. While The Flash was already filmed, the MCU has already placed Majors right in the middle of their biggest story arc in various properties in ways they can't really pull out of unless they absolutely have to.

Wouldn't surprise me if they just keep going as they are and try to weather the storm.

If even half of what was reported in that linked 'the direct' article above is accurate, he'll be done for sure anyway. The charge from the police includes "strangulation and battering a woman", so it really doesn't look good.

There's no real comparison with the Ezra Miller situation, as in that case to dump them would've meant dumping the movie entirely since it was already 95% done. Whereas here they have a ready made way of easily replacing Majors in future movies built right into his own character - much like the easy Depp to Mikkelsen switch in Fantastic Beasts. If they felt so inclined, they could even go back to that Council of Kangs scene in Quantumania and swap some of Majors plates over to some other faces (maybe including the new actor, if they moved quickly enough) before the Disney+ release, which is where it seems most people will see that movie anyway.

So logistically, the MCU folks are in an ok position themselves regardless... so from here we just see if this case fizzles out (as many domestic dispute cases do, for better or worse), or leads to formal charges.

Strictly speaking the only issue is that Loki S2 is in the can and that Quantumania post credit scene. The Conquerer is dead so what else is there really to do in Kang Dynasty that has to be done.

The Multiverse saga hasn't been great so this might be a godsend. Get rid of the phases and just focus on making proper films.

How to sabotage your own career in one fell swoop. Shocking stuff to hear.

Not going right for the MCU these days, though obviously not the most important factor of the story.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

They'll probably just recast, they've done it before. They could erase the Quantumania post credit stings and just say the other Kangs look like someone else or just not even bother. They recast Banner and Rhodes in the past and they even recast a character in Quantumania.

This Variety article goes into more detail about the particulars of the incident; certainly reads more complex than the original reporting of it - which came off like a boilerplate case of domestic assault.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

I hope it's not true from the interviews I've seen, he comes across as a very intelligent man but of course that doesn't mean he's not capable of this.

They should recast Terrence Howard as Kang.

joking aside, there’s video footage, so I’m sure that’ll clear things up.

In terms of what the future holds for Majors, there’s no way of knowing what way it’ll go until the incident has been properly investigated by the authorities.

if he is proven innocent he should take this as a lesson to be more careful of the company he keeps.
