I disagree with breaking it. We have 18k views here for a reason. This should be left as is. All eyes here

How do the gardai and the courts prevent licenced firearms falling into the wrong hands? explain that one

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭TheEngineer1

I probably should have worded that better, I mean they seem to be doing a good job of not giving licenses to dodgy characters, as is evident by the extremely low level of violent crimes committed by firearm license holders with their firearms

Greens are going against their party as are some FF members, and it seems local representative are not happy either.

Should read this article from a former FF member. Pay attention to his comments in the party towards the middle of the article.

A nicely biased bit of reporting by that journalist. Undoubtedly she was fed all the juicy bits to get them into the public domain.

    MODERATOR NOTE

Lads you can post links to articles but cannot screenshot and post the articles on the thread thanks to the copyright act. You can if you get permission from the copyright owner to do so, but that will have to be shown to me before posting to avoid legalities.

So if you see your post edited that is why.

Paste the above link into archive.is if you want to read the full article.

As with any article about semi-autos, they couldn't resist sticking in stuff about shootings in other countries.

Tbf that exact bit is a copy and paste from the report, AGS used those examples as justification for pushing for a ban

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,536 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cass

Of course they will because they don't happen here so they need some scare tactics to try and push their simple agenda of a complete gun ban so the way they do that is to show America and say how it "could" happen here.

Don't forget, the reasons given by AGS, NPWS, and DoJ don't need to make sense as they are simply a written reason to put on paper. To say they want them banned because they just want them banned won't fly so they'll make up what if scenarios in the hope the fear factor will add to their moral argument and that should shore up their weak factual argument.

It's about aesthetics, perception and misdirection.

And it's been cut and pasted from many other communications that predate the FEC report, most notably from politicians who want guns gone.

What's very obvious from the FEC report is that the Gardai want pretty much all guns gone. Even wanting the 'idontlikethelookofthat' clause to remain on the books. Madness.

It is nice to see such a grand reaction (reactive) to something that some of us have been warning about since 2015.(proactive)

Great to see the shotgun crowd now having to row in with us degenerates (shotgun ranges? and shoots have to be authorised, training, security etc) and also for the hunters to have to bite the bullet (pun excused) over so many things, like NV, Thermal, security, training etc.

The only option is to form together as one entity to fight this or we ALL LOSE OUR SPORTS or stay separate and be DIVIDED AND CONQUORED.

Lets just go back to the start of the year and compare how many licenced FAC owners (100,000+) were charged with related crimes as opposed to members of An Garda Siochana (@11,000 members, and charges of terrorism, drug dealing, conspiracy with organised crime syndicates, selling sensitive info (ie details of FAC holders) to criminals).

We need to be right in their face about these statistics.

The idea, on this forum, that ah, the poor guards are overworked and underpaid, and we don't mind if they break the law when dealing with our applications or make up their own laws and you should not challenge them on anything, MUST STOP.

We are THE MOST LAW ABIDING segment of society, and pay our taxes and fees etc, and deserve to be treated accordingly, not swept under the carpet like something that you pick up on the sole of your shoe.

Stand-up now or forever hold your tongue, simple as that.

    Apologies if this offends anyone/everyone.

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

Item on this subject on today's Moncreiff show on Newstalk:

The item itself is quite measured and reasonable, but the snark came out in spades when he read out some of the text responses later in the show.

And they bit their teeth out again on it! As there wont be according to them post-2015,any more nasty SACFs in Ireland. Talking about what they look like is an academic point.Trying to compare .22 rifles with the "features" is ridiculous,as it has never worked,in any country that tried it Be it Germany [1972/2002] USA[1992-2002 current still in some states] as well as no military in the world has ever had a 22 rimfire rifle as a main armament. As all people did was change/remove the scary features, and they weren't "military lookalike assault rifles" Utterly pathetic too their excuse to ignore the select fire feature as the primary decider,as no one in Europe can own a select fire CAT A firearm[bar criminals shooting up Irish hotels!]Trying to make wording suit themselves.Laughable.

I think Liam Nolan gave a very good account of himself.

I do not mean this in any way as derogatory, but PTB picking and choosing the "low hanging fruit" in order to say that they involved the stakeholders. No disrespect to the Irish Hunting Podcast, a new social media entity, which entails and posts as much, if not more about fishing and boating than shooting, and who do not represent pistol shooters, owners of semi-auto rifles, target shooters or even clay pigeon shooters.

Why do you think they were invited?

I personally couldn’t care as long as they sing loudly from the collective hymn sheet

The lads on the podcast have put the shoulder to the wheel, and made a bit of progress - that's great, in my view, and I've yet to see more from the big representative groups.

Anyone who follows them on FB will most likely know that they'd a call with James Lawless, a few weeks ago - I'm guessing that's how they've done it.

    BREAKING NEWS!

Fabian Connolly a member of the Firearms Expert Committee has contacted FUNI to discuss his experiences with this committee. He will be making contact with opposition TDs in the Dail to discuss his disappointment with how this committee was run and the one sidedness of this now confirmed rigged to one outcome exercise.

Mr Connolly alleges some of the following:

This committee was a rubberstamp exercise with an agenda.

The agenda of demands is nothing more than a Garda wish list of firearms and equipment they want OUT of civilian gun owner hands in Ireland.

While not yet fully confirmed, the graduated training idea is an idea for a soon to be retiring Senior Garda figure as a retirement project to provide this training.

The chair was neutral, for most of the event, and made sure Mr Connolly got a fair hearing.

We are sure Mr Connolly will disclose further information and stand over his allegations and also provide details as time progresses. FUNI will be the first to cover and provide Irish gun owners with developments as they happen.

FUNI would call on all gun owners to now continue to lobby their TDs and shooting organisations by email, letters and in person even more. In the eyes of this new evidence, call for a public inquiry and for Minister Browne to consider his position in this growing debacle. FUNI and others have expressed grave concerns since day one about this committee and its makeup and Minister Browne’s decision from day one to preclude any current Irish shooting groups from this committee.

Anyone who knows Fabian would know it's true if he says it is.

He's a very well educated man who is more than able to defend his corner and an incredible addition to the shooting community. I've known him for a number of years and he is a wealth of knowledge on everything shooting sports from hunting to target shooting of every discipline.

We could not have had a better representative than him for this committee and they still tried to fob him off.

It's a testament to his character that he's actively defending shooting sports and showing us what this committee was really about. Another man would have just taken it and let it be.
