Another write off today in Dublin - in fact it’s still raining around Rathfarnham. Looking a bit better tomorrow so hopefully can get outside for a bit.

The extra hour in the evening makes such a difference. It feels like a whole new world already.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Easter weekend looks (slightly) more promising

Great day in Kerry mostly blue skies all day with sunshine in and out behind the quick moving cloud, quite a chilly breeze mind you but great to be out in.

Heavy jacket and hat at the coast tonight. 7.1C atm

Wtf it's still raining in Dublin this morning, this is an absolute joke at this stage.

Another lovely morning in West cork so far, high cloud, cold air but when in the sun it feels warm. A lot less wind today.

Finally it's not raining, sun shining over saturated and waterlogged fields/ditches. We need weeks and weeks of much dryer than average conditions after the March deluge.

While second half of January and much of February where dryer than normal, it didn't take long for the March deluge to cause saturated land because I reckon the land was never completely dry after such a prolonged and wet autumn and this was followed by another very wet spell mid winter which lasted about 3 to 4 weeks.

There is some dryer weather on the way to us now but we need weeks for it to have any sort of impact or else we will be in trouble again soon if we were to go back to a deluge Atlantic onslaught within the next 2 weeks.

After pretty much 2 days rain, a lovely day in Greystones.

Between the much greater drying the sun provides this time of year and the tendency for April on to have much less rainfall than the autumn / winter months, ground conditions should steadily improve from here on even if it's not all dry days.

Lovely day in Cork! It was lovely yesterday too, no rain!

Lovely day in Galway. You can nearly hear the growth.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

What a lovely Spring day in Laois. Calm, pleasant. No need for heating this eve.

Was a lovely morning here cloudy since lunchtime. Went out to tramore for a walk great to be able to not get soaked! It was cool out there which you’d expect but a massive improvement. Just a pity the sun couldn’t have stayed around a bit longer.

The usual kind of weather we get this time of year....cold enough when its cloudy that you would need a jacket and warm enough the next minute when the sun is out you could wear a t-shirt🙃...looks like we will be waiting until around the middle of april before it might start changing

I'll be happy with the 1st dry day in yonks in Dublin, even if its cloudy.

I actually put some clothes out on line for 1st time today, the stress of it all😁.

Dry in Dublin CC but it’s cold and mainly cloudy odd bright spell.

Thanks for posting that Donegal, it's amazing how the three months balanced themselves giving a mean of 101 percent. Hopefully it's another 83 years before there's a March like that again

id definitely take record breaking wet months in February March and April if it meant dry may June July

Is there any sign of warmth coming?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,378 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

February was actually very dry in Ireland.

In my own county of Galway, Athenry usually gets 87mm of rain in February.

This year it was 42mm. 2022 had 143mm in comparison.

Mace Head only got 35mm when it's average for Feb is 98mm.

December was also very dry from what I recall.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

First 10 days or so of December were very dry from the cold and frosty spell, after that we went back into deluge conditions from mid December and this lasted all through the Christmas and New Years period and into first week of January. Once we got to mid January we began the next dry spell which persisted for most of February.

Unfortunately no signs of any warmth over the next 2 weeks. This week will become more unsettled before drying out for the Easter weekend and we turn cool and unsettled again after Easter weekend. April looks like it's going to be very average, quite wet at times and on the cool side. April is unlikely to be as excessively wet as March as we have already had a few dry days to begin the month and there will be a few dry days over easter. As far as dry spells go this is looking rather flimsy with low pressures from the Atlantic always having a go at interrupting the dry weather.

There may be a warmer push in the second half of April. Deep into FI, the models have been playing around with the idea of a cut off low to the west of Portugal with high pressure further east over Europe which would send a direct southerly our way, this is the sort of pattern that would deliver a heat spike during the summer, however this is a long way out and probably won't verify.

Yet more rain... Wasn't high pressure forecast?

EDIT: just saw Gonzo's post 👍

Decent morning in NE Galway. Lashing rain since 430pm.

The dry spell first half of April is wobbling unfortunately. Atlantic has too much energy.
