Hyundai Ioniq 6

Thats the top of the range, big battery, AWD version.

They're saying the pricing should be 8n line with the Ioniq 5 for the other specs.

In my case around 7:45am yesterday I saw a car transporter heading west/south along the M7, it was before the M7/M8 interchange so can't be sure which direction it was heading. Definitely one black one on the lower level on the very back, maybe more but I saw it and thought "didn't think they were even production ready".

I saw 6 Hyundai transporters on the move. Mainly Kona and Ioniqs so presume a recent Korean arrival. One other was a Kia Sportage delivery, another some used cars and the other transporter was full of X5s.

Was told today that the launch date for the Ioniq 6 in Ireland will be March 31st and prices will be announced then.

My dealer said they would have it by the 31st March but wasn't sure if he just meant pricing. He asked was I interested in looking at it........................whilst I was picking up a new car. "ummm, getting ahead of yourself a bit there......................." haha

I did see one on a truck 2 weeks ago, where it was heading to I don't know. (West on the M7 is all I know).

So most people will likely prefer the Elegance, on the spec in that article anyway, which will cost €1,500 more once the 1st July hits. Add on paint choice and dealer chargers and it's a big number.

Hyundai Ireland website updated recently also with pricing and specs, also now from 6.9% APR.

The Ioniq 6 has the potential to be a very important car in the great story that is society's transfer from ICE to electrified transport. Beside its brother, the Ioniq 5, it offers the kind of direct comparison that consumers need in order to hopefully get the message through to companies (and other consumers!) that we do not all want or need boxy cars.

It has the same 77kWh battery as the Ioniq 5.

It has the same 229hp electric motors as the Ioniq 5.

But its claimed range is 614km, as opposed to the 507km of the Ioniq 5. That is 21% - TWENTY ONE PERCENT - more range. And it's down to shaping it properly.

Many didn't notice this stuff so much when we could just splash and dash via a petrol station. But this is different.

Folks notice that speed impacts range. Folks notice that cold impacts range. And now folks can easily tell that their unnecessarily tall, unaerodynamically-shaped faux-SUV is impacting range also.

Give us saloons. Give us liftbacks. Give us estate cars.

Give us the choice of a fifth more range, and a more sustainable future.

I have an ID4. Same reason. No estate or liftback with the same range (a range that my wife actually needs with her driving needs) on the market. The MG5 came closest, similar with the Tesla Model 3. Former failed on range; latter on the saloon-style boot opening.

Estates are to my mind the greatest car shape yet invented. Our continental colleagues love them, and for good reason.

MPVs are just van shaped vehicles and totally the wrong shape for an EV. SUV is the worst shape of all.

I disagree. A scenic is /was a totally different shape to a Traffic the same way a Galaxy was a totally different shape to a Transit.

Maybe they might not be the best shape for an EV but they were the most spacious and most innovative.

That's a bit hyperbolic don't you think? It's just saying it's not gonna be very aerodynamically efficient compared to a lower vehicle. There's no escaping physics.

Gimme an EV estate car and I'll be happy. It's not cool though and coolness trumps efficiency every time it seems. Plus ça change etc.

Didn't take me long to bring up the Ioniq 6... :)

Beautiful initial concept design compromised by having to fit in onto the existing platform.
