The minors were shocking yesterday, there ball work was terrible.is someone coaching them to spoon the ball with the hurl for a pass it’s dreadful to look at. We can say Galway were a much better side but we certainly didn’t help ourselves.Galway played the same tactics all through the game none of which were counteracted and substitutions made too late Hugh improvements needed to progress.I was at the first two minor games and I thought we were making good progress. We should be afraid of Galway we should be tearing into them from the start.

I went down to the U20 today in Wexford, another defeat which looked promising earlier on , the half forward line wasn’t great and this probably led to our downfall ,the substitutions were made and improved things we probably got six of the last seven scores.probably not a high worry when we have a good few to come back

Minors looked in a decent position at half time only 3 points down and the wind at their back for the second half. Galway tipped on a few points and once the goal went in the match was over. Galway look like a serious team and have a good management team but our performance was very very disappointing. It's very hard to see us going far In this competition.

The u20 was a mixed bag and they will be dissapointed despite missing half their team .This wont be used as a excuse and while most other teams lost out last year we didnt but we're definitely suffering with some of our stronger players missing this year. You would imagine the lads will be back for the business end. The half foward line struggled but you throw clifford, dunne and denis walsh across that line and start drennan and shine inside its a completely different ball game. I know pepper only came on today for wexford . The same bite definitely isnt in this round robin. Galway losing to dublin would have to be considered a suprise. I think we have galway in Tullamore next week and dublin at home in two weeks before the Westmeath match.kk started and finished well but struggled at different times during the game. The half forward line struggled but management will learn a bit from this match and won't lose any sleep over today.

Low key build up to the league final. Limerick have probably named 13 of their championship team. Morrissey and Will o Donahoe will come back.mike Casey is a weakness in the full back line thats why they have gone with dan Morrissey at 3.Kilkenny have nearly their championship squad. Hogan and wally will come back when recovered. We could see a few changes to that kk team.

Most people think if we keep it to 5 or 6 points it would be a good result but the players won't be thinking that. They'll believe they can win it. I'm realistic and know the performance is nearly more important then the result.Tomor will bring blanchfield and drennan on a ton. Limerick will have their homework done on us. We're building and this limerick team is the benchmark and are on the road a long time. They havent lost a final under kiely and going by their team they dont want to lose tomorrow. Its going to be intresting to see what way lyng sets up tactically,Scruff will need a good day on the puckouts but we need to be brave and need plenty of movement. We pushed up last year and got cleaned in the half back line. Lyng is trying to rectify this and Mikey butler is only lad to keep his position from last year.Butler could pick up gillane and Tommy on Flanigan. Peter Casey wanders out the field a bit. Between the two 40s will be the war zone. Limerick can destroy ya from the half back line let alone the half forward line.Byrnes will get most of the long range frees. We will have to be disciplined and need to bring huge workrate. What we do with Lynch will be another delima.

Apart from the 1st half against Tipp we have being decent but tomorrow will be a big step up.This is a great game to be getting a few weeks out from the championship.

    Spot on

Fairly quiet on here before the league final. Maybe the expectancy of a win is not there? Its a marvelous opportunity for Lyng to see up close where he needs to be at. All of the experts are predicting a decent win for Limerick. Our boys will have the desire to take them on. Heres hoping for a ding dong battle and with a bit of luck the boys will get the win.

  • Maybe people are travelling to the match?

I'd be very optimistic of a good performance, whether that results in a win, less so, but not impossible either. It's great to be in the final, would love to get the win, and we know the players won't be going for anything less than a win. And what better opponents to be tested against as a lead in to the championship.

Pathetic Kilkenny crowd here today. It's embarrassing how poor our support is.

6 down at halftime. We started well but Limerick have taken control in the last 20 minutes or so. Need to get Padraig Walsh off Gillane, Gillane is cleaning up. Bar Mullen none of our forwards have really been in the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

We're light years off these lads. Their ability to create space in the forwards compared to us is incredible. And we still don't know what to do with the second ball off the puck out

Huw Lawlor has to be in the full back line. We're wasting our time if he's not back there

  • Registered Users Posts: 540 ✭✭✭usualstripes

A few very poor decisions from the ref went against us and cost us points there. Eoin Codys first touch needs to be better coming out for those deliveries. We're not able to create the same space as Limerick so far. Fogarty or donnelly not in the game yet. Padraig under pressure back there. Drennan getting no ball in the corner. After a promising start we need a much better 2nd half or it'll end up in the double figures. Need more from midfield.

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭mullinr2

Eoin Cody's first touch is not good enough

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭mullinr2

Apart from the frees what does Brennan offer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭mercury16

Time for Lyng to go. County board need to beg Cody to come back. That’s disgraceful. Lyng was never the man for that job, Martin Fogarty should have been asked to do it. Limerick played in the All Ireland last year too, and this is their fourth year in a row on the road to the final. So no excuses, from Lyng. If that’s what he can offer, then it’s multiple steps backwards from Cody.

No fight. Not second but 3rd to every ball.

Tommy Walsh is at sea in the full back line as is P Walsh.

No KK man marking up, Limerick look amazing out there cos nobody is marking them.

Eoin Cody and Billy need to be dropped.

Ah lads this is awful from Kilkenny, to top off a bad weekend at all levels. What is it, has the appetite for hurling dimished so much in the county? Our teams just look poorly coached from under age level that when they reach Senior level they are not at the required level

  • Registered Users Posts: 964 ✭✭✭conor05

Kilkenny are the number one under 20 team at present team in Ireland, the number one club hurling team in Ireland at present and only came runners up to Limerick in senior all Ireland last year.

Taking my paragraph into account can you explain in detail what you mean by our underage teams look poorly coached at underage and players are not ready for senior level.

You mean the under 20 players who won the all Ireland last year?

    This is a league final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭mercury16

If it has to be explained to you how bad our underage is, with the exception of last year, then it’s not worth the effort of explaining it to you, as you haven’t a clue. One All Ireland at underage in how many years? 10?

Our U-20s beaten yesterday and our minors beaten out the gate, which is an annual thing now.

  • Ah go handy on the lad, it's his first season.

God knows what the score would have been if Gillane scored his frees

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭mullinr2

We can't even control a pass to each other, it's either over hit or mis controlled. These are the players our underage system have produced

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,859 ✭✭✭kksaints

2nd half has been very poor. Forwards haven't been in the game at all for all that the ball into them hasn't been great. Padraig Walsh really struggled and he was left on Gillane for far too long. Mullen did well after his absence and scored some nice points but he was really the only player who played well. Deegan scored two good points but wasted a fair amount of ball. Puckouts are again shaky and that's been an issue that we have had for ages. I think Lawlor should go back to the full back line if we play Limerick again, he was outmaneuvered by the Limerick half forward line. Poor result but at least we've learned about what doesn't work if we play Limerick again later in the season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 540 ✭✭✭usualstripes

There was a comment earlier on the poor support from kilkenny and to be fair looking around the stands today that's justifiable. But the way we played, with all due respect to an excellent Limerick team, leaves a lot to be desired. How we play under pressure is the ultimate test and our first touch is nowhere near good enough. The fact that we gave up the ghost with 20 minutes to go doesn't sit well with me. Yes Limerick are outstanding and maybe we have to accept that reality. We were so far off the pace we have an awful lot to so to make up ground in the next 10 weeks.

No-one stood up today. There's no point in picking out who did what as we were bet comprehensively all over. Where was the fight in the last 20 mins? Come on lads. We pushed them all the way last year. TJ, wally, Carey and browne aside we have to do better. There shouldn't be 12 or 13 points the difference

  • Registered Users Posts: 293 ✭✭jimmythesulk

Support here today wasn't poor it was pathetic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭brookville

We all know the support was going to be desperate but we were fierce niave on the line for starters. The left gillane inside on padriag isolated with 30 yards. I was up high looking down and the movement inside was atrocious. Theres absolutely no doubt tj covered up a huge amount last year. The exhibition he gave in the final was unbelievable. We were beaten everywhere all over the field.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Comerman

Was Donnelly injured to be taken out at half time?

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭mullinr2

As well as having a extremely skillful bunch of hurlers, this Limerick team are also probably the best coached team ever to play the game. The way they are able to find space, pinpoint passes and take the ball under control is just phenomenal. Kilkenny are light years away from this. What has happened to the likes of Eoin Cody, I had such high hopes for him but it seems he has regressed than progressed. The fact we are still persisting with players like Billy Ryan, Walter Walsh, Cillian Buckley and Conor Fogarty shows the ill health of Kilkenny hurling

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 Todd_UnctiousGael

Decent first half, couple of poor wides, use of ball was good, unlucky to be 6 points down.

Very poor second half from Kk, decision making in possession not good e.g. Padraic Walsh shooting wide under pressure when pass to Clifford the better option. Same with touch as the match went on. We needed to be able to shoot from midfield/half back to draw the Limerick defence out, weren't a threat so ball into crowded full forward line was hit and hope. With better shooting from Limerick could've been a cricket score

Subs were all young inexperienced, now they know where they need to be

Yes a bad day office a lot of things not up to scratch but you've gone way over the top. An exceptional group the whole country is up against when facing Limerick.
