Another sign that market's are cooling, Toyota currently advertising Corolla's, order now for March delivery, if the long waiting time's for new cars is over I can see a correction in the price of second hand cars

Probably because the supply chain is improving, hard to believe it took so long to recover.

I see this old Valmet for sale not far from me. Almost 14k hours on it but these are fairly bullet proof engines as long as they are serviced. I see an alfie Byrne sticker on it which from a quick Google search is a contracting outfit in wexford. It kinda looks reasonably priced for what it is but could have had a hard life too. Might have been on a hedge cutter too as the engine panels seem battered. Kinda on the look out for a 6 cylinder tractor as a standby tractor but to do certain power hungry jobs a few days in the year, mainly baling.

    It looks a cheap tractor.

They were an excellent engine coupled to a weakish transmission

I'd actually know Alfie quite well, and he won't thank you for calling him a Wexford man, he is a proud Carlow man. I can guarantee that Alfie hasn't used that model of Valmet in over 10 yrs for any large work. If he still had one since 2012 it has been tucked away at the back of the yard as a back up.

Edited to say, by jesus is the tinwork rough on that one.

I wouldn't think the bonnet panel damage is from hedge cutting. It's more like someone drove over it, and Fr. Ted had a go at straightening it.... It's a pity there isn't some shots of the inside of the cab. It often says a lot about how careful the previous owner was. The one pic of the clock looks very clean.

This is a bit of a weird one that I haven't heard happening in a long while. I hope he gets some information.

Also I notice on donedeal that there is a lot of "classics" coming up for sale. 6810's, 6910's, 110-90's. The owners must be getting the jitters about a recession.

Wonder if he was scammed remotely or if he actually seen it first.

Was just thinking the very same.

    Nothing soft of that establishment

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,259 ✭✭✭tanko

It’s the usual story, they thought they were getting a bargain to sell on and make a handy few grand and greed got the better of them.

I wonder what will this make? For sale with the owner with a fortnight but I see there's an auctioneer after getting involved now.

Are prices in general softening a bit?

Several 4x4 80 - 100 hp servicable oul yokes on DD under 15k which wasn't the case anytime recently I thought.

Does anyone know what a 4x4 2010 Case JX70 with ~3900 hrs on it should cost? No loader. Clutch was done less than 200 hours ago. Tyres seem to be about 50-60%. The tractor was bought new by a non-registered VAT farmer.

Vat reg will not make any difference to the price of that tractor. Surprised to see a clutch having to be replaced on a tractor that has less than 4k hours. Are they the original make of tires on the tractor.

Would not have a clue but 25k????

The wrong driver could do in a clutch in 4 hours, never mind 4,000.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,548 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Ya and with the clutch gone that early I be worried about grinding on the gear box or doing work she was not designed for. The tractor is only 60-65HP AFAIK.

I see they are just a little 3 cylinder tractor with a mechanical shuttle. without a loader she might only be worth back around the 20k. She will just about lift a single bale behind

Was owned by an older farmer, hip replacements etc main culprit there it seems.

Yeah, they're a simple enough machine.

Our old IH 444 ~40hp managed bales (haha just though!).

As for tyres, yeah the original I think (need to double-check).

    Thanks for your reply :)

If you know the history of it then that is a big help. Only issue I see now is it might have never really worked. A diesel.engine need to be at high revs every few days.

Really had to put a value on it. A clean MF365 would probably cost 20k or more and would be 39+ years old and have 8-10 k hours. It would also mire than likely e a floor change

I’m open to correction but I think the Case JX70 etc are the equivalent of the Turkish built New Holland. They wouldn’t be known for their build quality and would be worth considerably less than their JXU brethren. It could be a hard enough sell unless priced very right.

    Just passing Templetouhy enniscorthy today.

There's a MF135 parked up in front yard. Presume it's for sale.

It's beside this 4345 in picture.

I see a lot of those 4000 series in machinery yards still commanding 25K'ish and in rough enough condition. Oldest ones are 25 years old now and showing their age.

Newish looking loader on it. Softride too.

This must be it, looks good and honest.

Have to say that's how an ad should be written, I mean if I was in the market I'd near be sold just on the ad

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,548 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

@caesar is this the tractor. It looks straight enough. According to him it's a Italian build and its 72HP. It's a 4 cylinder not a three cylinder according to the manual he put up.

He is looking for 25k. Those types of tractors are hard got. However demand is specialised. It will might make at or near that.

On the other hand if she was that clean with a loader she would struggle to make 28-30k

There not a great tractor to spend 25k on ,there is smething gamy about position of the back axel on them .Neighbour had equilelent n.h. for a year or so and lost heavy when he traded up .you will buy jxu/tla model for not much more ,I would say even buy a done up mf135 would be far better buy

  • Registered Users Posts: 79 ✭✭Downtown123

That is probably a fair equivalent to make. One could argue that you’d be better off spending 25k on an immaculate SL NH 7740 or MF390T or MF399 or JD6400

Let's be realistic about what a 135 will and will not do. It would hardly get a bale accross a yard and you could not put a loader on that will lift any decent weight.

I am not saying I am not claiming to be an expert but I be of the opinion I be near enough the value of it.

However the seller has to realize it's a private sale. It also depends on what a buyer wants. Recently heard the story of a farmer was buying a tractor he had a deal virtually done on a 90 HP tractor a NH TL 90 when a lad told him he really needed a 120/130 HP tractor

He has a 6' Kuhn mower, a small slurry tanker, small fertilizer spreader etc and a tight yard. He was a bit flustered and went back to the small dealer he was buying off. The dealer pointed out he was managing with a 80hp at present and offered him the TL90 on trial.

Within a week he was in with a cheque for the tractor. Bigger tractors mean bigger diesel bills etc. You would buy a McCormick for 5k cheaper as well and have the pick of 80-90 HP tractors with a loader for 30k. But it's all relative to what you want.

That tractor might sit there for 3 months and you might buy it for 20k after that. It could be gone next week at 23/24k. That the way it works
