Maybe Joe should try something similar.

Trump called North Korea and Russias bluff, they were afraid of him, like all bullies they fear a bigger bully.

I'm not losing sleep about Soleimani, that man lived by the sword and was personally responsible for bankrolling and coordinating terrorism all across the Middle East. He earned that death.

But the comments about Trump and war are silly. Trump was more drone happy than Obama by multiples, and Obama used drone strikes liberally.

Another person who completely misses the point of the song.

A song that explicitly calls out the rich and famous for avoiding going to war and sending the poor kids to die is such a great choice for Donald Trump, who's rich father paid off a Doctor to invent a medical condition to get his kid out of serving..

Some folks are born made to wave the flag

Hoo, they're red, white and blue

And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"

Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me

    I ain't no senator's son, son

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand

Lord, don't they help themselves, Lord?

But when the taxman come to the door

Lord, the house lookin' like a rummage sale, yeah

It ain't me, it ain't me

    I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah-yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes

Hoo, they send you down to war, Lord

And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"

Hoo, they only answer, "More, more, more, more"

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no military son, son, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no fortunate one, no, no, no

It ain't me, it ain't me

I ain't no fortunate son, no, no, no

It ain't me, it ain't me...

It wasn't an "Anti-War" song , it was anti Rich assholes getting away with everything whilst the poor paid the price.

    "Biden crime family" lol

8 years as VP, coming on 4 years of President, one of the most vetted people in american politics ever, but yeah - he's a crime boss.

That's the thing I don't quite follow in all this.

Biden is supposed to have gotten all these millions for all kinds of stuff , but to what end and where is it??

I mean , is he saving it up so he can splurge in his retirement or something?

What is he planning to do with all this money - Has he taken a whole host of back-handers and under the table payments via Hunter so that he can give it back to Hunter as part of his estate when he dies ????

I might buy that Biden knew that Hunter was using his name to get money from people for stuff he really wasn't qualified for but turned a blind eye , but the idea that Biden personally benefitted financially just doesn't make any logical sense.

    The ironing is delicious.

A Trump flunkie talking about being from a crime family. Trump ran a casino in Atlanic City, you don't do that without rubbing shoulders with and glad-handing genuine mob and organised crime elements. Not to mention his real estate ventures in NYC - construction and real estate is riddled with organised crime in NY, and there's no way he didn't have business dealings with the mob.

Meanwhile, his successor is fighting an actual proxy war with Russia... while throwing around some very strong war-like rhetoric towards china too.

Hmm... which one is the warmonger? So hard to decide. 😂

I am fairly certain that Eisenhower visited Wexford town when they unveiled the Commodore John Barry statue- but it was post-presidency. I assume he'd have the same security detail to an "official visit".

F*ck Russia. Any American President with a spine would be doing what Biden is doing.

This war is Russia's moral and ethical responsibility and they can take their medicine. Nobody was going to stand-by as Kremlinite sh*tbags shattered the European peace.

Fascist tea-boys living in the West can go do one.

There are lots of fair arguments to be had about US Foreign policy and their tendency to use their military to influence things.

But this idea that Trump is or was somehow "Anti-War" just doesn't hold water.

Trump bombed more people in 4 years that Obama did in 8 (and Obama did a fair bit of bombing) and his fawning over Putin and Kim Jong Un (which he is still doing to this day) just show how fond he is of a bit of War mongering.

He is even asking his "people" to create plans to invade Mexico should he get back into power.

I really don't get this line of reasoning. Do you really think that Hunter had all those connections in the likes of Ukraine just by chance? And it had nothing to do with the political connections of his father? How in the world is it illogical that he may have benefited from these deals? Not being proven, and being illogical are very different things. There's nothing illogical about a politician potentially benefiting from deals that his son had made via his own connections.

Let's be honest, if it were Trump's kids in similar situation, you'd have zero issue believing the opposite of what you're claiming, and you certainly wouldn't claim that it's illogical.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Hunter Biden is an opportunist, not the brightest bulb and a former crackhead. But, he's not alone in peddling a political family name with a bullsh*t consultancy, but nothing about that is illegal. The FBI have been up his ass for a few years now (even during Trump's term) and having turned up nothing, never mind anything implicating the President.

Trumpites have themselves in knots conspiracy theorizing about this because their boy has several credible criminal investigations open against him.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,481 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Again though - To what end??

Hunter Biden seems like a pretty distasteful reprobate who absolutely used the family name to get himself places and money that his personal abilities and skills did not warrant.

What I don't see though is where Joe Biden benefits from it.

Do I believe that Hunter Biden either directly or indirectly promised people the access and influence that his family name could potentially provide?

Yeah , I think he probably did - BUT what I don's see any evidence of is that Joe Biden actually provided that promised Access and Influence.

Like I said in my earlier post , what does Joe Biden get here?

If he got tonnes of money , what is he doing with it?

He hasn't exactly been living the high-life while he was out of office and when he finally retires from politics it's not like he's going to have decades to live the high roller life.

On your point about the Trump family , Trump has spent his entire life chasing wealth and living the playboy lifestyle so yes , it's easy to believe that he would be influenced by money.

Biden on the other hand has spent a life-time in public service and going by his visible lifestyle and publicly available tax returns , he only started to have "real" money in the years after the Obama admin based on money received for his memoirs and public speaking.

So again - What is the benefit to Biden for being on the take????

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The FBI is in on it as well. Deep state etc etc.

There are several credible criminal investigations ongoing against Trump. That's a statement of fact not of opinion.

Welcome home Joe. Apparently he intends on retiring to Mayo.

A great visit and an amazing person.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Guildenstern

Yes, in 1962, the year before JFK arrived. One of those forgotten memories now. Pushed aside by catholic Irish JFK's visit. If you're a Democrat and can show a little bit of Irish ancestry, we will milk you as much as you milk us. The Biden folksy grandpa charm is a bonus.

Going to be hard to see any future POTUS having such an eagerness to reflect their ancestry. While many say it is just for election purposes next year, there is there a genuine interest, as many will tell you when he started turning up here 30 odd years ago and sought out his family history. Par for the course for many Irish Americans and a genuine interest in visiting and finding out more about their background.

Joe’s visit really is triggering the right wing media in the Uk. The daily mail running about 10 articles a day, some of them are so ridiculous you’d almost think they’re satire. Seen lots of anti irish sentiment in the comments as well it’s hilarious. One opinion piece the other day says he’s hates the British because he’s fallen for the republican view of “British oppression” in Ireland. It’s crazy how much it’s bothering them. I hope he says something today to drive them even more mad haha.

Should Hunter Biden and his Uncle James be investigated for potentially trying to leverage their family influence ? Absolutely.

However , I have zero time for the current House investigations as long as they ignore the almost $3.5 BILLION that Jared Kushner received from Middle East countries during and shortly after his term in office when he was directly responsible for US Foreign policy in that region.

Where in the case of Qatar they have explicitly said that when they were asked to invest in his collapsing New York Property portfolio they felt that a refusal to invest would have had negative implications for their government during upcoming negotiations. And when MBS gave him $2B and for the first time in history overruled the Saudi Sovreign Wealth funds oversight committee who initially rejected Kushners investment application on the basis that he lacked the experience and skills to manage the funds and that his plans were extremely poor.

By all means investigate anyone that potentially committed crimes , but James Comer et al can GTFO if they are happy to ignore Jared Kushner because he's on their side.

Pretty sure Bush 41 never visited Ireland in his single term, but stand to be corrected on that.

Correct. Bush Senior did not grace us.

From wikipedia: the darker the blue the more visits. Canada and France were visited 4 times each by him (darkest blue)

Sky news is absolutely box office.

The reporter earlier sounded full on depressed and the Irish corespondent had to explain at least 3-4 times that Higgins as Irish President holds zero political power similar to the monarch.

They are delusional and furious. Great to see
