How much longer are the Pelicans going to put up with Zion?

    Delighted for OKC.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,319 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

OKC would make more of a series against Denver than Wolves / Pellicans imo

Zion has just been a disaster. What can they do though? When he’s on the court he’s really very good. Can’t let him walk for free. Unless they can think of something very creative next month he’ll just get his big designated rookie max extension and New Orleans are tied to his ability to put it together physically over the next five years.

Series comeback by the Bulls, they just have to be dramatic about things. Who the f knows how things will go against the heat but it's winnable for sure. But then if we do, it's against Bucks in round 1 again. Yeah we could take a couple of games but it will be a tough series to watch.

Zion is a poisoned chalice, he is a freak, brilliant generational type of player but he will most likely never be consistent on any team, but it’s so hard for the Pelicans, you have a Unicorn but he is what he is, other teams know the downside which is a lot so what’s the solution, not sure on contract but trade value is probably not high

Ha this is brilliant, compilation of all the FT misses by the Raptors with Deebo's daughter screaming to put them off. I would have though hey, less of that but home fans use those wavy sticks to put off the away team so have at it little one. Raptors went 18/36 FT's.

That's year 4 finished for Zion and he's only played 30+ games in 1 of those seasons. He really has been a worst case scenario player, everything that people thought could be a problem for him has been, and it doesn't look there's been any improvement on that front.

My guess is he comes into next season healthy and is sitting out nights by game 20, probably ruled out with injuries before the season ends again too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,319 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

It’s a shame because they looked really good to start the year with him on the floor. Have some very viable pieces around him

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,481 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Williamson was physically fit to play the play-in, but said he would not play till he 'felt like Zion'

Why on earth would you hold on to him and pay massive wages. You may as well sign Ben Simmons too

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,319 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The extension he’s gonna get isn’t really optional for New Orleans. It’s ~$195m gtd at signing over a half decade deal and that’s that. Maybe they could sign and trade him somewhere, but there isn’t any middle option here.

He and his agents aren’t going to take less than the designated rookie max / bird extension. Nor should they.

Pretty sure his extension had some sort of weight limit and games played conditions attached for him to actually get his full extension.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,481 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

looking at him , I doubt he made the weight, or games. I can't see the logic of using so much of you cap space for a player that hardly plays ? It's not like Man City or PSG who could just use him for the champion league matches without taking away from money used for other players.

More than anyone right now Zion reminds me of Oden in Portland, when he was on the floor he was genuinely unstoppable and Portland were a true contender (50-12 in games where Oden, Lamarcus Aldridge, and Brandon Roy all played) but it eventually just became apparent that he'd never be healthy enough to play.

The best case for Zion is Embiid, he played even fewer games over his first 4 years in the league and look at him now.

Most of his injuries are foot related. They have to figure out why this is.

I've seen where driving the wrong car is the issue and where the ankle is too weak to prevent injuries to the ankle and foot. Best solution for that is to wear boots until the strength improves.

The Pelicans are a big part of the problem if they haven't hired specialists to figure it out. Too many injuries to one area suggests there is a fix.

Mavs fined 750k for tanking against the Bulls.

  • Posts: 13,688 Jason Late Pantry

Not much you can do when the officials consist of Ron DeSantis, Francis Suarez & year 2000 Jeb Bush.

Mavs got fined 750k for tanking, what's the punishment for corrupt officiating?

That being said, glad it's Miami getting pulverised by the Bucks and not us.

I'd honestly say Mark Cuban has wiped his arse with less after a dodgy Mexican.

I still cannot believe we mortgaged our whole future on Zachary LaVine.

The last two games have summed him up perfectly. Jekyll & Hyde.

He isn't, never was, and never will be a franchise player.

Billy Donovan, nice fella, but has to go. Took out Coby White when it came to riding time...awful, awful, awful coaching.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,823 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Man, as much as i wanted to see bulls scrap against the bucks, it's probably for the best. Zach went 6 of 21, 0 of 6 3's, jaysus. Coby actually having a great game and gets taken out, same with Drummond, Billy needs to trust the bench now when they're making an impact and the starters aren't.

Can't see much changing next season but Bulls did have a much better post all Star season so if they can get an equally good pree all star next season would be a start.

Oh, you mean the highlight reel dunker didn’t work out ??? Shocker….lol. Just kidding but yea I never saw a long term future there, he will not elevate that franchise to what it should be, could be a long long time before the Bulls are legit again, a little sad but not like you didn’t have success in your past

The 20s are definitely a write off anyway.

Even if we blow it up I can't see where we're getting any picks out of.

The West Bracket is fascinating. I could be convinced of an argument that each series will go 6 games plus.

Still think Denver, Memphis, Golden State and Phoenix - i.e. favs will progress in each case. But the dogs in each series can cause their opponents serious problems.

Nets doubling Embiid and asking Philly to beat them with the supporting cast, which they will.

Nets are giving it a lash, but it’s all very try hard. Weird to have a 0% championship equity team as a 6th seed.

Bridges thriving as a first option. Fun to watch him make the step up.

Impressed by Philly there. Not much else to add as I’ve powered through a few bottles already.

    looking forward to Celtics game.

    Hawks are absolutely shíte.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,319 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

West bracket is fascinating. East bracket is not.

sure, Cavs / Knicks hard to call but neither team has a chance in round 2

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,823 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I dipped in and out of nets/philly and Embitch seemed to be flopping or giving out, I really hope Jokic gets MVP. Agreed above, the West has some fascinating matchups whole the East is by the numbers and Knicks/cavs is the most interesting but least impactful on the conference.

A team performance from the Celtics through three quarters tonight, they lead the Hawks by 21.

As I've said I'm always in awe of Rob Williams when he's fit. Tonight he's 5 of 5 for 10 points, 7 rebounds, a block, a steal and 2 turnovers. All of that in 20 minutes.

Tatum, Brown and White all in the 20's.

With the Bulls out, I'd love to see Celtics win the whole thing.

As for the Bulls, reports that Demar is asking for a 144ml 4 year extension. I love watching Demar do his midrange thing but him and Zach just aren't a good fit. Both Iso scorers with no defense. Zach is already locked in so I think Bulls best move is to trade Deebo. I'd much prefer Zach to go but that's not gonna happen. We badly need a PG and and Rim protector. Speaking of, Vuc is a free agent this summer and said he'd like to stay but open to looking at options. He has a sweet post game and decent 3's but we need someone willing to stay in the paint against the Jokic/Giannis/Embid's and not hover around the perimeter. So, I think Bulls should get rid of Vuc and Demar and look for a new PG and C or else the best frw years are gonna be the same thing over and over. Ideally we trade Zach and get rid of Billy but I can't see either of that happening.

Slightly offtopic, my 5 year old spotted the newest Space Jam on prime the other day. She thought it was the original I showed her a few months back so decided let's try watch the new one together. Man, it's awful. Like one big ad for Warner Brothers. None of the magic of the original.
