Barca are level, right at the end of the half. It's a fully deserved equaliser.

And delighted gthat Barca got the winner in injury time.

12 clear, as good as all over now.

Missed it.....completely forgot about it.....was it a good game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Not a great game, no.

Picked up in the last 20min when it got a bit end to end.

Madrid were very unlucky to have a 2nd ruled offside by var, but thems the breaks. It was very very tight.

I think a draw would have been a fair result, but you'd have to say that's the league done and dusted now. Well, at least until Barca are relegated!

I just don't understand how the **** was that a penalty because of a handball

I don't know who to blame the ref or the rules

Not the league, but Real blew Barca away tonight. They stepped up on the Barca defence in the second half and Barca fell apart, 0-4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    A masterclass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,349 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

some comeback by villareal. now beating real 3-2

ETA: that didn't last long. peno to real for a whopper dive by camavinga

VAR in spain might make more sense. the ref reversed his initial decision cos VAR called him over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Madrid running the risk of 2nd spot. Need to be careful.

Would Valencia be the biggest team to ever get relegated from La Liga?

atleti spent 2 seasons relegated about 20 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

But Valencia would certainly be a massive team to be relegated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,274 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

They were relegated in the 70s, if I'm not mistaken. Atletico, Real Sociedad and both Seville teams have been in the second division in the last thirty years.

Iirc, Madrid, Barca and Athletic are the only Spanish teams to have always played in La Liga. Given the financial power of the first two and Athletic's "Basque" only policy, it makes the latter belonging to that group all the more impressive.

Edit - Valencia were relegated in '86 and promoted in '87.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭jacool

They can still get out of it but their next games are massive as they are against relegated Elche, and then two teams within 5 points of them, Real Valladolid and Cadiz. Their last home game is against Espanyol, also in the dogfight. Unfortunately, they finish the season away at Betis, who are in the running for Europe! They need 9 points from their next three games to give them a chance.

The Almeria game was a massively bad result for them. I was in Spain that weekend but tickets were going for over €100 and there were two of us :(

    Bad beating for Madrid tonight.

I wasn't watching game, seen the scoreline of 4-1 and assumed they were playing a weak side to save guys for CL semi....but I was wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Atleti now only 2pts behind Madrid.

    And Barca beat too?

    Poor league standard this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Sociedad v Madrid tonight.

Sociedad need win to cement their cl qualifying spot, Madrids players taking it easy before the Cup Final at weekend & Man City semi next week?

    Surely only 1 winner?

Sevilla, betis and atletico all got relegated in the same barmy year. 99/00. Deportivo were champions. Salva was top scorer and hasslebank scored a hatful for atletico too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Very entertaining 1st half in the Copa Del Rey so far. Madrid deservedly leading. Could have been out of sight had they taken another couple of their chances.

    Edit: Osasuna equaliser. Game on.

I remember that- the 3 teams ahead probably couldn't believe it

    until the following season !

Bad slip up tonight by Atleti, losing to Elche.

That has conceded 2nd spot to Madrid again.

Demolition Derby is right, 3-0 approaching ht

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

You can see why Espanyol are heading down.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,342 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Barcelona were in the middle of their celebrations when the home fans had enough of it and invaded the pitch. The Barca players had to leg it off the pitch.

They did go on a bit perhaps, but still.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

What disgraceful behavior by the Valencia fans and Valencia player kicking that 2nd ball at the 1st ball should be sent off for that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭jacool

Result should be reversed. Simple as

Home fans wouldn't be long rooting out the more ignorant among them then.

I like the way that the La Liga president, Tebas, tried to blame Vinicius for not going to a meeting even though Infantino seems to say there is a policy in place.

Spain really needs to get its act together. This has been going on too long.

But slightly ironically, Real Madrid would have traditionally had one of the most racists sets of ultras.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

See Valencia have been punished with a 4 game partial stadium ban, and Vini Jr has had his red card rescinded.

A little bit of progress, let's hope La Liga does the right thing next season and come down heavily on offending teams.

I have always thought the most effective way of tackling these sorts of issues would be points deductions rather than fines. Football clubs now are so wealthy hitting them with a 50k fine means nothing. But if you started deducting points, it would soon stop.

Same goes for players out of control, and managers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

What a f-ing game in Espanyol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Joselu once again really shite in front goals

He really does make good runs but when your reliant on someone to actually finish Joselu is really lacking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭jacool

Agreed - a 3 point deduction here would have seen Valencia falling back into the bottom 3. Be a nice reward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,005 ✭✭✭ebbsy

Good enough for Valencia, make it 10 matched next time.

This is something of a wake up call for La Liga though, although the president made ill-judged remarks, that actually helped the poor player as people suddenly stopped and realised "this is not right".

Sanctions is the best way forward.

There's been a big conversation across the country here in the last few days, even since the punishment was announced.

Tebas has now copped on and wants to be seen to be on the righteous side which is amazing given the gobshite he is.

This is something of a breakthrough moment for Spain and I believe all the international attention is going to drive real change, hopefully.

There wasn't as much of this when someone threw a banana at Dani Alves or even when Atleti fans hung an effigy of Vinicius from a motorway a few months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Benzema gone from the Bernabeu.

They are losing a legend. What a career.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Joaquin playing his last ever game tonight for Betis against former club Valencia. Not many survivors left from 2002 world cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Would atletico be devastated by an injury goal preventing them from finishing second ahead of Real?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭jacool

Gabri Veiga has kissed his badge so many times tonight, you'd wonder why he's probably heading to either the Premier League, or Barcelona!

The bottom 3, that Celta Vigo just escaped, keeps changing. Relegated Espanyol have just pushed Almeria into the bottom 3, and got Valladolid out, who just can't help themselves ! Still 0-0 at home when a win would get them safe!

    Courtois out for the season?

Bad news, he was excellent last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,563 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

    Very unfortunate.

De Gea might get his homecoming after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Can't see any other outcome.

It's very late to try to go into the market and entice a full time keeper away from a top club, so De Gea must be nailed on, at least in the short term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    And wrong.

    That Kepa deal happened fast.

Talking of Madrid, Bellingham going to be a great signing for them. He is a class act.

    Kepa is a poor signing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,563 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Yes he is a poor keeper.

All he was doing last season was picking the ball out of the net at Chelsea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

That's some step down going from Busquets to Romeu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,773 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

He was actually quite good last year, Chelsea on a whole just happened to be poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Xavi's Barcelona are terrible to watch.

I cannot believe that when Getafe went down to 10 men that Xavi didn't make any attacking subs
