The yips have kicked in though. Sitting in his chair, he looks broken.

I’ll be delighted for Anto if he wins

Yeah, Trump started off well but he's deteriorated again

Trump's having a mare. Missing that black was bad. Could be his last shot.

Very disappointing to see Judd go out in the first round. Didn't really get going and was unlucky on occasion. He got the toughest first round draw as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,294 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No it wasn't a bad missed black. It was extremely tough. Cue ball tight against the side cushion. The commentators said it as well.

Here is Kyren Wilson's Maximum break - WC 2023

By the way it is edited by Eurosport - when I saw time at 3:26 - I thought - wow. But didn't know it was edited.

Kyren negotiated it very well. I noticed he seems to be able to mix style of shots can float them in or punch them in.

Still think Kyren won't win the world championship though, I have real question marks over his mental strength.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Good first frame from Murphy, although the commentator (can’t remember his name, not Foulds) spent practically the entire frame crapping on about Murphy’s comments about amateurs playing in pro tournaments. Frame ball was potted when he finally shut up. Proper annoying. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,442 ✭✭✭weemcd

Jesus I can't stand Murphy. That interview at the interval was a hard watch on BBC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Annoying or not, Murphy is playing some fantastic stuff. There is always a careless shot in him though, which can come out of nowhere.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Davis and the BBC presenter trying to talk up Day's chances of turning round a 9-5 deficit? Why do they have to do this, it's not like they have to keep watching through commercial breaks....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Wilson was impressive. But so often Round One (and even round two) can be a poor guide to what might happen over the final 7 days.

Was that Edel, Lionel Ritchie or ET on the phone during the Murphy match I wonder?

In my head (for some reason) I visualised John Virgo jumping on the table and shouting 'Just stop phones'! 'And let them pot as many balls as they can...'

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I couldn't hear what the commentators heard, and played it back and still couldn't hear it. So it was loud enough, but not loud enough to be picked up on the tv coverage. I think.

Think Murphy is in bad form tonight anyway. Looking at the white earlier thinking it was a light white. Probably wants to get out and make a better fist of it tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,934 ✭✭✭patrickc

Murphy is struggling to get a run of the balls at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭waynescales1

I clearly heard a phone watching on Eurosport, it’ll be carnage this Sunday when that government text goes out to everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Murphy's alright but he's always looking to be the mastermind on commentary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Definitely a phone....

Unfortunately I can see as this gets worse a requirement for lockers for people to have their phones put away outside..

You seen between frames multiple people having a quick check of messages and sending some ... its a terrible reflection on humanity that people now can't go a few hours without looking at a screen or being in contact with other humans....

Years ago it used to be only sweet papers or anything reflective. Much simpler times.

I still remember former referee John Street staring me down at Goffs, as I was trying to open a sweet. I was terrified.

They should just ban all phones, but I know well what will happen then. There is a 1 in 1000 medical emergency and people will be in uproar. Could not get to phone because phones banned at snooker.

    great comeback by Milkman :)

just the one frame in it now; deficit just one frame, and he's in here early in frame 16 !!

    smashing split from blue :)

could be 'commentator's curse' for JP :) and Rob's only gone and missed relatively easy red :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,627 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

The commentator just said that they won't be allowed continue if they go beyond a certain time, and said it was bizarre considering the back-story to why they're playing now at all. I agree.

Although Perry might be glad of the chance of a break to regather his thoughts, he's slowly disintegrating here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,294 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That was some brain fart by Milkins bringing the black into play, when 34 ahead with 35 remaining. And now he's in a snooker, gave away 4 points and a free ball. But Joe has put him back. And the $####¥ BBC have cut away to talk about $####¥ politics. 🤬

Why couldn't they put in on BBC4? It's at a crucial point in the match, 8-8.

Joe should have taken that free ball shot, because I see he's now lost the frame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

    9-8 now to Rob 😊

looks outta position early in this frame, does Rob - no luck; white in no-man's-land amongst reds, from yella he potted. goes safe in baulk

could be a decider - Perry well ahead here with four (awkward positions) reds left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

snookers required now for Rob - Joe still at table

Rob concedes - last frame decider upcoming

    mon Rob !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Rob tippin away rapid down business end of table - leads 25pts to one; tough black upcoming - gets it !

    leads 32pts to uno :)

    mon Rob !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,294 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

This is for Milkins to lose now. The reds are well scattered, should be able to make a considerable break. He's on 25 already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Rob plays safe - 62 ahead with 6 reds left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Perry 'gives' Rob 5pts by hitting blue - wasn't even snookered on several of the reds. puts Joe back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,294 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

End of break for Milkins, but he's 68-1 ahead. Perry made a poor foul, hitting the blue instead of a red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Joe gets cueball safish - more luck than judgement 😋

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

still 6 reds and safety exchange ongoing

one safe red close to cushion good news for Rob

    hon Rob!! great long red

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Rob at table but it's game ova

    poor Joe

Does Joe Perry do some snooker commentary or am I mixing him up with Dominic Dale?

pretty sure he does a bit for the beeb, g. definitely seen him in the studio in recent days. Joe been doing comms intermittently last 2/3 years i think, but nowhere near as prolific as DD

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,505 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Fair play to Milkins to come from 7-2 down and win that. Perry had plenty of chances. Lunch time session will be delayed a bit while the new crowd comes in they mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

That was some pressure black that Milkins got to go 32 points, really switched on. He deserves a few pints of cider after that,

Perry was on the bbc yesterday morning. An off day in between sessions of his match.

Murphy started this of course, and Mark Allen is fairly active on the bbc mid tournament as well.

Quite a different vibe to Steve Davis or Hendry, but the players say they know what they are doing.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,505 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Indeed, held his nerve well in that last frame. He'll play Murphy or Si next. How far has Rob got in the worlds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I had a look at the chart on wikipedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Milkins

Second round was the furthest he got four times - last time was in the 2018 season (had not qualified again until now)- first time 2002 season on his crucible debut.

Seems like a really interesting character sort of a sleeping giant until that Welsh Open win. 47 years of age. Talent is obviously there has had two maximums in Worlds qualifying. 2006 World qualifying when he lost to Selby 10-4. The only second player who had a max in a world championship and lost. His other maximum was in worlds qualifying in the 2012.

Seems to have echoes of Stuart Bingham - plugging away for decades then it starting to click late on

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

They will be taking a break when this is due to happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Of course they'll have people texting them for the crack too

Same way they do when people are live on air and their fones start buzzing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

    good on ya Bazza 😊

Barry Hearn on about taking a Civil action against protestor/s to get money back for fans - he just mentioned the 'chap' tho; no mention of the slowcoach broad 😃

    #fairfooks 👍️

I've never really liked Barry Hearn.

Bit of a Del Boy about him. Great for snooker in fairness, shook it up since he took charge - more tournaments etc.

Selt hanging on at 8-5 down v Selby. Blessed to get that last frame.

Luca did well to win that frame. Played some great shots including an early contender for shot of the Championship, after some horrible luck early on in it.
