Delighted for Si there. Losing 3 frames on the bounce watching Murphy get back to 9 all, then pots a great red and unlucky not to clear up. What was he thinking taking on that pink rather than snooker behind the yellow though? Madness.

I thought he was grinding well from 9-6

SI will be every interesting next round

    Exciting talent

Ah Jayus that Si v Murphy match would have made a great final. Si’s technique is magic and he is fearless very reminiscent of the 2005 version of Murphy.

That last frame opening red and green by Si wow. The bit later in frame where he went all out for mad pink. No roll up yellow. Then later plays great safety puts Murphy behind brown. Near where he should/could have put him with yellow earlier.

Every other pro won’t want to play Si. Fearlessness and potting like that could take on anyone.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Delighted for Si. Delighted to see Murphy beat. Good match all round.

Great night of snooker tonight. Murphy had his chances and really needed to ensure he clipped that red even if ir relied on luck as to where it would land.

Murphy and Trump gone, the first round has had a lot already, it really could be very open now.

Delighted for Si...just can't warm to Murphy.

Great night of snooker tonight. Murphy had his chances and really needed to ensure he clipped that red even if ir relied on luck as to where it would land.

I don't understand why he changed his mind on the third attempt when he was so close to snicking it the first 2 times. Somewhat threw it away there, having said that I never though he was going to win the match even during his comeback. He seemed somewhat thrown by this newbie Si.

Murphy flatters to deceive at the crucible yet again.

Only been past round 2 once in the last 8 years including 5 first round exits. Horrible record of late.

Robertson another who is always underpriced, one semi since he won it in 2010 yet always in the top 3-4 in the betting.

The crucible is like horse racing at Cheltenham, suits some down to the ground. Others not so much.

Si knocked Murphy out of the 2021 UK championship so he shouldn't have been thrown by him but I agree it appeared to be that way.

I just happened to see Alan 'Angles' McManus analyse of Judd Trump.

Jayus, Alan normally tries to couch his opinions in a soft manner if possible. But it basically sounds like career over for Trump as a serious snooker player if he doe not sort out his technique.

BBC just chopped the Williams match

Yad think they'd stick it on 3 or 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

The same - I had it on pause, was about 10 mins behind - can't believe they didn't at least show out the frame?! I'm assuming Brecel took it in the end?

BBC - 4 stations (not counting the Red Button - if indeed it's still a thing; used be able to get it, but not now [Brexit possibly?] ) , with two of those off most of the day. they could easily open one of them up for the snooker

would prefer to watch other match meself, being as it's in session two

and Rishi Persad (when he's on) is one of the most hateful, annoying presenters - whatever the sport, imo

can't really complain, as i is Irish 😆 but fook the BBC

Wow !! that easy blue Robbo just missed - deffo a 'turning point' for me

was close to rail with cueball, but still, that were chronic 😲

    honn Jak !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

not a turning point after all :(

Robbo ends up winning frame, to trail by just one

Jak still leads: 4 frames to Robbo's 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

that middle bag not a friend to Robbo. missed a relatively easy red into just now, but a lot trickier than that straight blue, tbf

Jak back in, but looks tough table

he's only gone and missed a red into same pocket, from t'opposite end from Neil's attempt

    "it's catching" Fouldsy remarked 😃

Robbo leading frame 8 by 30pts to 7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

great safety/snooker by Willo there, but not much from it

i stand corrected - lovely red there, and he's well in now

You might have to do a satellite retune BBC did a lot of changing but they're there

    Grudge match on the way

Reckon Ronnie will make mincemeat of him

beyond my capabilities Kirk , but thanks for the advice ☺️

    ______________________

don't really care who wins Ronnie / Vafaei match - mebbe Hossein, on a/c of it'll leave another top seed discarded, thereby giving Pistol more solid claims 😃

have to fancy Ronnie here tho, being it's best o' 25.

Ronnie win 13-11 is me prediction

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Predict a possible 147 from Ronnie roday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

    Vafaei looking a nervous wreck

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

the one behind Murphy in the studio wearing pink looks like Arnie when disguised as a bird in Total Recall 😂

big smiley head on her 🙂 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,524 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Yeah Red Button has now gone HD and SD version still exists but like BBC4 I think it could have changed frequency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Vafaei is in danger of completely distracting himself with this niggling with/ about Ronnie - he was totally wound up being interviewed the other day, and that break off was just stupid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Ah here, Vafaei losing the plot already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

    Disaster incoming for vafaei

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

looks like Ronnie psyched him out. Vafaei looks mentally weak and 2-0 down in no time…

unlucky with that massive kick, in the first though, second shot …was it ?

proof of what a ******* Ronnie is, blanks everyone in the corridor but then offers quite an intimidatory fist bump, into Vafaei while Vafaei is arranging his table… standing right over him, fist out while he’s doing that…as if to say… ‘hurry the f*ck up, you are on my time’…

then Vafaei blasts straight into pack from the break, scattering everything, potting nothing….Ronnie must be secretly laughing….

psyched Hossein out completely and 2-0 up in the blink of an eye.

and Allen wins a long frame 9 to take first frame of session. had a 40+ lead most the way, and Bingham needed a snooker when on colours

didn't get it. Allen ahead 6-3. HUP 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

    Good recovery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

was expecting Hossein to punch the air/bang the table there; but nope, just calmly walks out :)

great pink to get on scoreboard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Feck, I've to go out - tempted to record this and see if I can catch up later. Could turn into a classic.

Poor Steve Davis's head is going to explode with it all!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

potted a lovely brown there, Mark, from baulk, and smashes into cluster opening everything up. 47 pts up, and plenty there :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

another on the board after a 75 break

    7-3 to Pistol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,024 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah, I have satellite used to be able to get red button now doesn't tune in anymore.

My other two alternatives now are people that stream the red button/bbc feed on youtube - one Indian guy calls his channels 'snukerworld' and 'cue club'. He plays music when switches to analysis to avoid copyright infringement.

Other alternative is a free VPN I use called windscribe - it is an app for google chrome. But can be hit and miss. Works with the BBC iplayer, when I tried it though.

It will be interesting what the BBC will do when snooker goes really global - outside the UK and Ireland. As that is the way things seem headed in the next 20/30 years. I assume the defacto World Championship will be in China as it will have a tournament with massive prize money that dwarfs the 'official' world championship prize funds.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Allen flying. in amongst them in frame 11 here, and currently on a maxi. early days tho - 28pts to nowt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

goes for blue after fifth red. currently on 51pts and motoring along nicely here 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Hmmm, I might have been a bit hasty with my "potential classic" ......

    Ronnie looking dangerously clinical here.

Vafaei can't afford to be making stupid mistakes like he did in this frame - not once, but again when he got in with a second chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

    Hupp Mark Allen !!

a pressure pot on black gives him frame,,

Stuey come to table 67pts adrift with 75 on. makes a good break of 65 w/o cueball being on the proverbial string,, lands high on pink, leaves thin cut on black, but misses - still needed potting tho

8-3 Allen. Stuey got nowt left in tank methinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,202 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Allen cueing lovely. Potted v good opening red there, after Bingham had been in, but could only manage 26. missed a relatively easy red. not playing well at all is Stu. Allen on 24 currently, and, crucially, still at the table 😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

breaks down on 38. plays containing safety into small clusta of remaining reds

all good so far for Northern Irishman :)

Ronnie too clinical compared to vafaei

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Allen back in shortly after that. gets a little help from gravity with a black, but no mistakes otherwise.

playing like a World Champeen atm, is ire Mark 😁

"Division One" as Arfur might say. clears ye table with a 68 break

    9-3 Allen

tis lookin' onimous nigh for Bings 😃 yeupp Mark 😊 !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,024 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

On other table Varfaei had a great chance to capitalise on a Ronnie error - frame 5 but broke down. Can't see Varfaei winning/making it close giving up chances like that.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

    Vafaei missing too many

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

yup - could've lost it at the start. long way to go tho

    Ronnie in boss mode atm
