Just to make a liar out of me, they included the local PO >Out for delivery on yesterday and today's deliveries. They have never missed finishing off the process with the delivered status, in fairness.

This means your parcel has landed in Dublin by Usps and is handed over to An post. But as this parcel is from the US it will go into a room awaiting Customs approval before an Post acan it and update the tracking.

Have you gotten an update yet, if so how long did it take for Anpost to uodate the tracking?

Im also at the stage you where at, and wondering how long customs are taking to clear

Currently expecting several parcels which have left Spain, France and Poland last Wednesday and Thursday... I guess it was too optimistic to think they'd be here today or even show up on An Post tracking. But sometimes that has happened, a delivery about two days after leaving the country for Ireland so I was hoping for a miracle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

Only the parcel from France has arrived... Spanish parcel left Spain a week ago and still no sign of it in Ireland... Polish parcel has left Poland six days ago and no updates on that either. And a letter that was sent from Belgium on Friday was already supposed to be here and it's also missing. What is up, An Post?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

Does anyone know if An Post changes the tracking code for parcels sent from Spain using Correos? I've been waiting for a small letter from Spain for over two weeks and the trail ends when it left Spain 14 days ago. Sadly, the sender used Correos which has a bad reputation but I only learnt this after the letter was sent already. I'm super disappointed not to receive the item I bought from Spain because cannot get it elsewhere and now it's sold out. Happy though that all the other parcels I mentioned above have arrived now.

My catnip got stopped by customs... Wonder what they think it is 🤔

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated, tracking goes as follows , accepted in post office , sorted in d12 , then out for delivery in my county, then we tried to deliver your post , reason , incomplete address , then four hours later , your delivery is in my local d.s.u , it’s been there two days now , my question is if I go to the dsu will they help me out ?? According to an post it will be returned to sender that was two days ago as well ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭SourSessions

If it says returned to sender it probably had incomplete customs information. They've been sending everything back if it doesn't conform exactly.

Does anyone get regular mail from the UK? I get the occasional letter that arrives with the postman and recently its been 10 days or longer before they arrive. Last one was letter from solicitor correctly addressed with an eircode and it took 12 days. Prior to that a correspondence with the NS&I went on for ages with each one of their letters taking more than 10 days from the postmark. Is this just a case of An Post not bothering because they don't get any money for sorting and delivering external mail? Is recorded delivery from the UK anymore reliable?

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 Srfcsean

It was sent from Dublin 🇮🇪 To 🇮🇪 So If it’s still showing in my local dsu after bank holiday I’m going in to enquire about it and see can I pick it up crazy carry on altogether

    >Is this just a case of An Post not bothering because they don't get any money for sorting and delivering external mail?

They do money for delivering international mail. There is a Universal Postal Union that sorts out renumeration for that sort of thing. Of course Countries have to pay the receiving country to deliver the post. Like, why would La Poste accept anything from An Post, Royal Mail, USPS, Correos if there is nothing in it for them. That's why you can buy a load of cheap **** on China and get "Free" postage, they are still classed as a transitioning or a Tier 4 country on the scale of 1-5 so don't have to give An Post as much for say a 500gram packet as Royal Mail does, or any other developed country.

This is from 2018 but still relevant.

    >USPS recently stated that the failure to cover USPS’s costs for inbound mail was caused by the terminal dues system. For example, currently, USPS is paid between $1.13 and $1.87 in terminal dues to deliver a 10-ounce packet from a developing country, an amount that does not include any additional surcharges for tracking and other features. Conversely, USPS officials told us that the published domestic rates for a 10-ounce piece of mail range from $1.61 to the highest commercial rate of $3.46.

Update on this... The parcel finally arrived after 49 days in transit... 🤣 I guess I can consider myself lucky it arrived at all! Was supposed to take 3 to 5 days.

Currently waiting for another parcel within Ireland but has been sorted in Portlaoise for two days now. I don't know if it's the rainy Friday after all those sunny, warm days but not a postman in sight for the whole day in our neighbourhood. Hard to believe no mail for anyone in this area as there are quite a lot of houses and apartments and the postman has quite a lot to deliver every week day. Amazon Express came though, like it usually does.

Sent a standard letter from Dublin to Cork last week as part of my SUSI application and apparently they still didn't receive them, looks like I'll have to resend and use registered post. I really thought with standard post it would arrive next day, apparently not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

I'm just having the worst luck with mail it seems. A gift from Estonia was supposed to arrive ages ago, sent over two weeks ago, left the country on 24th of August so has been making its way here for at least seven work days (An Post told me it might take 7 to 10 days) now. In many countries the post has a different tracking system from what they make available for customers so they might be able to tell you where the parcel is before it shows on their website but An Post never can. It's the same old song every time, "we can't find it in our system, it will show there once we have scanned it". The sender told me their post said there were some delays with several deliveries to Ireland but An Post had never heard of any delays. Typical. I am starting to feel my parcel will never arrive. I really could use some message board magic right about now..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

Not that anyone visits this thread anymore, a full investigation has been launched now involving An Post, Omniva and air carriers. No parcel and I doubt it will ever arrive but there's still hope (see my earlier post about the Spanish parcel taking 2 months to arrive).

I wonder if there is some sort of a bigger problem with deliveries that we're not being told about. It's gotten to a point where I've stopped ordering from abroad because of all these hiccups.

It's worse they are getting. Quite a few times international DHL parcels arrive in Dublin Saturday afternoon and are delivered Tuesday. The latest one I have is an internal delivery from East Cork to Inishannon a distance of 49km. Posted with tracked service on Thursday. Sorted in Little Island on Thursday at 6pm. Sent to Portlaoise, where it was sorted on Thursday night. Portlaoise? It was then sent to Cork South City DSU this morning, 4 days later, supposedly for delivery today. I sent a parcel to Gort at the same time on Thursday which was delivered on Friday........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

I don't know what's going on but weirdly enough, it seems it really does depend on which country the parcel was sent from. Currently any item from France, Germany or Netherlands arrives in 3 days while parcels from Spain, Nordic countries or Baltic countries take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 months to arrive. Belgium, Poland and the like take about 5 to 7 days. Are deliveries prioritised somehow according to origin? Are some countries paying more for faster delivery at some point on the logistics chain? All the deliveries I'm referring to that I've had in the past few months were regular ones meaning posted via regular mail, no priority delivery or courier service but through national postal services.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,034 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Maybe some countries are shipping it in faster? Maybe the postal services don’t have a lot for Ireland, and let it build up. An Post wouldn’t have any influence over incoming post either way. Bad and all as they are I don’t see why An Post would leave envelopes sitting around for months undelivered.

Are there any delays with anPost recently?

Sold some stuff online to be posted from Galway to Dublin abd paid for Express parcel.Lad at the post office said 24h.Sent on wed and its stuck in Athlone since wed 😂😂.

Is it a large or long item? Have a delay myself on a long item. It’s out for delivery today was posted Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 837 ✭✭✭bigboss1986

Well big enough box around 4kg of electronics 🫣

Normal post still crap from UK. A £25 win on premium bonds on the 2nd November and cheque arrived on the 30th (UK>Ireland). Probably An Post throw a wobbly over 2nd class mail from the UK thats not posted at Air Mail rates but no official body bothers to pay the full postal rate.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 163 ✭✭MoonMotorway

I know it's very busy after black Friday and in the run up to Christmas. I can never fault an post and my local post lady and post men. They are so good.

I ordered a package last week at the weekend approx. I got an estimated delivery day for the 4th of December. It's a national delivery. Ordered from Dublin for delivery to the west.

There's no update toy tracking. I would have presumed that the parcel would at least be picked up at this stage and moved onto at least portloaise mails centre for delivery.

It hasn't made any progress since this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,341 ✭✭✭SPDUB

It's Royal Mail who throw a wobbly over 2nd class postage being used for Ireland .

It was very noticeable after Christmas that you would get Christmas cards from the UK till the 3rd week of January that only had 2nd Class postage but had been date stamped in a mail centre about a month earlier

Apologies for venting but I find this frustrating. I'm waiting on a delivery and find it astonishing that the package was delivered from Germany to the parcel hub in Dublin in 2 days. It has sat in the parcel hub for the same amount of time with no update. Incredible. A competent courier system can move the package 1000km overseas in 2 days but an post can't drive it 100km down the road to me in a reasonable time frame.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,034 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Have they confirmed arrival in Dublin? 2 days is suspiciously quick.I'd normally allow 3-4 days, depending on departure date. Mine are usually 7 days from Munich to delivered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭lintdrummer

Yes, it had a couple of updates saying it was received in the parcel hub. To be fair it was delivered the following day so not too bad in the end but it's annoying the tracking just stalls like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭JVince

very easy and very plausible. German system simply needs to put everything marked "Ireland" into a green tub and shove that onto a flight. The auto sorting system would do that just as quickly as sorting a Dusseldorf to Cologne package. Flights are plentiful and its a quiet time of year, so 2 days easily done and probably standard. Similarly 2 days from Dublin to German main sorting centre is very plausible and probably standard too.

What does the status say? An Post use strange wording. If it says "Your delivery has been sorted PORTLAOISE MAIL CENTRE, CO LAOIS" (or Your delivery has been sorted DUBLIN PARCEL HUB, DUBLIN 12) or similar, this means it has actually left the hub and is on the way or already in the local delivery unit. The next notification after this is "out for delivery and that usually shows at 7am on delivery day.

But delays can be caused by customs checks to ensure the package does not contain certain goods such as drugs, medicines, alcohol, tobacco etc - just the same way as Germany will have a cursory customs check on packages coming from Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 864 ✭✭✭manna452121

When it says Your delivery has been sorted PORTLAOISE MAIL CENTRE, CO LAOIS" this means that the item has been sorted into a bag or a cage for its next location. Some item leave Portlaoise centre and go to Athlone, get sorted again for other locations mostly on the west of the country. It does happen that an item can sit in Portlaoise for days.

Are there any delays with anPost recently again?Sent registered parcel, was told 2days max(Galway-Kildare) but the parcel tracking number hasnt been updated since I posted 5days ago.

Tried to contact them via web chat but was told they dont have any update either 😂😂😂

I sent a tracked parcel to Dublin over a week ago, but the tracking hasn't moved from Port Laoise. Second time this has happened. It had been delivered but never tracked or signed for.

I was waiting for a parcel on Tuesday that had arrived at the local PO and was out for delivery. About 4 o'clock the tracking updated to attempted delivery. We were home all day and there was no delivery. On Wednesday a parcel arrived at the local PO, but never updated to out for delivery. I called down to the local PO and the 2 parcels were there. They were never put out for delivery because "the postman was out yesterday". Must have been out the following day too, as it wasn't put out for delivery, I had to collect.

Postage rates go up and up, service gets ever worse. Everything goes slow when it hits Ireland, parcels, AddressPal, DHL parcels and local post.

I just hope mine will shop up.Sent tracked and insured .I just let my client know to wait few more days.

Delays delays, what on earth is happening with AnPost recently? I'm waiting for parcel that was sent on 23rd of Feb. There's no update on the tracking system since then. AnPost claims that the parcel might be already in destination country (which is not true), in the dest country Post Office says that according to the tracking info it's en route. There's no way to figure out where is it. It's insured for €200, but I'm wondering at what point I'll be able to file a claim for that €200.

I guess next time it'll be a better idea to pay more for DPD or FedEX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭WestWicklow1

The one time I claimed on a non-delivered registered item it took An Post 14 months to pay out the €60.00 value I put on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭sebphoto

That is so bad, I have no words to describe my frustration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,249 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

My local post person was great, always helpful, always delivering with care.

We got a new person a few weeks back and it's all different now.

This morning at 07:57 I got notification that three parcels are out for delivery and at 09:18 the status changed to "we tried to deliver your item" with "Reason: ".

Immediately looking out of the window, no AnPost driver, looking through the CCTV, no AnPost Driver the whole morning either.

Spoke to a neighbor, who funny enough had the same!

So, what, now we load stuff onto the van and then scan it as "we tried to deliver" despite not even trying, there is no note or anything and Amazon send me a text just now that "AnPost will do another delivery attempt on Monday".

Boy, and I was trying to be nice to the person as it's a heavy parcel and come out and take it off them to avoid them having to carry it up all the way to the reception area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,168 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Report it to An Post. If he tries that too often he'll get the sack. At least thats what my postman tells me as he is very careful to deliver everything each day he has even doubled back before when he missed a letter.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭WestWicklow1

I've never sent anything to China before so not sure if I'm being fed a load of BS by the An Post rep on facebook messenger. On 03/04/2024 I registered a small package going to China. Today, 13/04/2024, according to the tracking info, it's still sitting in the NAAS D.S.U., CO KILDARE.

The rep says it's not in Naas but in the Dublin sorting centre awaiting a flight.

    Is it BS or not?

I have a super special one today. An post sitting on a parcel from the UK for almost a month since it arrived and customs was paid on it. Numerous attempts to follow up and track (webchat, twitter etc) with various jobsworths at An Post customer service, absolutely no joy. Latest response from over a week ago was the best:"… My colleague you spoke to on Webchat has raised the matter with our colleagues in the mail centre to have it released as soon as possible but I do not have a further update yet I'm afraid. Please keep an eye on the tracking system for further updates… " If Carlsberg did unhelpful… it would be called Anpost.

I would think it was returned, and has gone missing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,231 ✭✭✭MuffinsDa

After waiting on the phone 30 mins today they said we are not even sure if we ever received it ….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

What's up with An Post lately…? Shouldn't mail destined to somewhere in Dublin go to Dublin Mail Centre instead of Portlaoise? I mean, if we're talking about airmail from abroad, shouldn't it make more sense that it ends up in Dublin? Recently I've had a couple of parcels going to Portlaoise instead of Dublin and these are parcels that land on Dublin airport. The most recent one is now sitting in the wrong post office after it was sorted wrong at Portlaoise and instead of getting it today, I will have to most likely wait until Monday. Annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭WestWicklow1

Item is now officially missing and an An Post rep on the phone (01) 705 7600 agreed that the excuse (waiting for a flight) given by "Cathal", an An Post rep on Facebook messenger was "incorrect".

Be aware that items registered and going "International" are only insured by An Post for €35.00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭ShayNanigan

Oh not the dreaded "C"… I don't trust the guy, he's been wrong before. And not the most pleasant to deal with either. I get the impression whenever anyone else is there to answer, they will at least try to help. But this person/bot/whatever just states something and usually it's not even correct. I now wonder if the info he gave me that my parcel will be arriving on Monday is incorrect too. Probably is.

Edit: The info was incorrect again… Arrived today.

Hi all,I'm waing on a package

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,249 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

I have an item (tracked letter) stuck in DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE, DUBLIN 12 18 June 2024 21:40.

When I contacted AnPost I got this beautiful excuse within seconds of asking:

This item seems to have been delayed in being delivered. We have been made aware that there are delays in the area covered by your local delivery office due to a redesign of the delivery routes in the office at this time. We are aiming to have this backlog cleared in the coming days. We appreciate your patience and understanding, but we're very sorry for any inconvenience caused by the delay.

So, things are held up in Dublin because in Cork we are doing a redesign of routes? Sure, and all the other items that have been delivered since the 18th are I guess just lucky that nobody noticed they are for these new magic routes?

Sure, I spoke to my local post delivery person (who delivered other stuff this morning) and he said "WHAT? News to me".

Seriously, how about taking a second and actually research and providing me with a clear answer rather than some template that is wrong.

Chatting with my postman last week he said that his area (Rural Waterford) had been rearranged and that he'd dropped one part of his route and taken on a new section. So yes the excuse is possible but still totally unreasonable.

Wake me up when it's all over.
