Tbh the role as it now is - having to do everything he would've had to do as a regular CB, and also cover RB - would only make it even harder for Gomez. His issues this season have been keeping track of attackers and losing his man in key areas. He's just been getting mentally lost on the field. Having even more space to cover could only hurt him.

Matip doesn't have that pace, but he's a million times better reader of the game, which is more important for that new role. Of course Konate is showing himself to be brilliant at both the physical and mental side, so hopefully he's not out long!
