Those were 2 tough breaks. A great split if the reds, a good cue ball and on nothing. Then the red over the pocket somehow staying out

I will feel sorry for whoever loses here. It's tough. Probably worse for McGill, as Si probably has a long bright future ahead of him.

It is not just the way Alex Higgins acted off the table that annoys me. Right people say he was talented. But how much did he win with that talent? Alex was more a spectacle to watch, because you didn't know what was going to happen next, because of his volatile temperament. When I was young I used to think he was great gas. But now I realise how much he underachieved and how overrated he was. All this Alex made snooker, and Higgins saying he 'made' the game.

If there was no Alex Higgins - Jimmy White would have been along a few years later. Much better player than Alex Higgins ever was and played the flamboyant game.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Anto brown into the pack is shot of the championship for me so far. Not that difficult really, but the pressure was immense.

    Won’t make any list though.

For most of Higgins career there was one ranking event- the Worlds. He was arguably past his peak when the crucible started. You can’t judge him by modern standards.

But absolutely, yeah, he was ****. Great at snooker though.

"mind yer work Anthony" and we're into a decider 😋

Credit where its due that was a great frame from McGill.

Final frame decider coming up. Fair play to McGill, excellent century break.

I don't know, does neither player want to leave the arena before the final frame? Si, now has gone out.

    Fancy SI here

Oh I realise that argument of different eras etc. But then when you look at the fact that Terry Griffiths has the same amount of centuries as Alex Higgins had - giving Alex a 7 year start - that is a real eye opener for me. Which says to me that Alex Higgins was more myth/hype and image than anything else. Griffiths and Higgins were contemporaries for most of their careers.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Anyway back to the present day, it will be interesting to see if Si has the composure to this decider v McGill.

I hope it's not decided on a fluke or something cruel.

The century count is a poor yardstick, I think this shows it. 60/70 breaks win frames. Then Higgins went into exhibition mode, he showed off instead of worrying about centuries.

What was the urgent need to switch from BBC4 back to BBC2 at such a crucial stage? SMH.

Edit: SMH again. They had to show more snooker. Davis v Taylor: The '85: Black Ball Final, which they wanted to show at 9pm but couldn't resist any longer.

shame there has to be a loser here

am marginally hoping Anthony wins - be a contrast of styles with him and BB in Semi

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

doubt he'll clear up from here

some awkward reds blocking each other

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,707 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

This will really stand to Si not only for this tournament for years to come. Great snooker education in the few weeks for him.

Joe Perry with a Captain Obvious quote. "It's the right shot if it goes in, it's definitely the wrong shot if it doesn't".

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

Joe's having a mare calling shots 🤣 he was "surprised" Anthony didn't go for black,,, thought the snooker was the play meself,,, black was risky half-ball pot from close to side rail

    made the correct choice imo

Shocker of a miss from McGill, albeit on his left side.
