Thanks for the input everyone re my 530e vs M3 SR.

Seems spec-wise apart from performance there isn't a huge loss on SR vs LR so I'm comfortable to go with the base model in white.

I guess the only question now is, excluding the change in the grant that's incoming, do we have an insight as to whether or not we'll see Elon announce further price drops? Or am I essentially asking to see into a crystal ball and the mind of a man that no one ever can 😁

Presumably this issue only occurs with AP engaged?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,838 ✭✭✭rx8

If you're happy to pay €40332 for it then go for it. You'll more than likely have your new car before the end of June. It's probably the soonest you'll get any new car nowadays anyway.

PS. Don't forget to order through a referral link ! ;)

It really is crystal ball territory at this stage…..

the same base spec car was €54k only a few months ago….. (I actually ordered a new one at that price thinking the prices were going to increase again…. And Tesla were offering me €44k for my 2020 SR+, so it really is all bonkers stuff).

€40k for a brand new Tesla Model 3 is insane….. if I didn’t already have one, I’d be all over one at that price!!

even this morning a guy commented on a Facebook CarZone post that the cheapest he could see a new Tesla was €57k!!!!, so there’s still a bizarre perception out there that these are Uber expensive cars…. Yet today a new Model 3 costs over €2k less than a VW ID.3!!!!! It’s Bonkers!!!

    Well...I guess a spur-of-the-moment can result in an order of a M3. 😂

Went ahead and placed an order for M3 SR.

    😲

Nice one. You'll be constantly refreshing the Waiting room thread for the next while. 😁😁

I was the same last year and don't regret it..

Best of luck for a speedy car..

Funnily enough, end of June would suit me fine for delivery so no major rush. Well once the VIN is assigned in time!

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,324 Mod ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

You’ll be kicking yourself you didn’t buy one sooner……. Then you’ll realise had you bought one sooner you’d probably have paid north of €50k for it…. So in fact you couldn’t have bought at a better time really!!!

Join the Tesla owners Facebook group (using your RN number) (if Facebook is your thing), as it’s the official owners group and is recognised by Tesla and is a very helpful place for tips, tricks & all round advice… (and the admins can escalate any issues direct to Tesla).

coming from a 530e I presume you already have a home charger? (If not get on it right away)

Everyones been going nuts for accessories lately, but in reality you don’t need any….. just get the car and then decide if you need anything. The only Tesla specific accessory you might need is the jacking pucks, as some places are not willing to Jack up a Tesla without them (even though it’s perfectly fine to do so, the pucks just make the process foolproof)..

apart from that, download the app, and start watching all the video guides in the app and on YouTube as well…

I use AP every day - had a mild phantim brake issue on the M4 today and a couple of episodes in the last couple of months that were more severe. However none severe enough to nearly cause an accident and given how much I use AP I wouldnt have any complaints. Its a great system and its made my life on the road for work so much easier as I feel a lot less fatigued after a long journey.

Driving a loaner from Tesla at the moment, a 2020 Model 3 SR+ with FSD. Big difference compared to my 2023 Shanghai Model 3 (RWD). Performance wise it's quite similar IME. It's a lot noisier though. Definitely miss the heated steering wheel. No power trunk either.

I will say that I wouldn't bother with FSD. It feels like you've just put a first time driver behind the wheel. They kinda have a grip on the controls but that's about it. 🤣

    Thanks!

Well actually I'm coming from a 2L diesel mondeo. My commute these days is max 50km round so no longer need that big ol lug, like I did at the time I purchased.

So I'll now be in the market for a charger. Any advice on best options here re charging? I'm also in process of Solar PV quoting so a lot of moving parts.

Easygo are the best value at present.

    wallbox for €599 after grant.

    Zappi for €799 after grant.

    Both supplied and fitted.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,324 Mod ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Yeah you’ll really want a Solar PV compatible charger to make life easier….

Most Solar PV installers will also do a car charger for you so be sure to get one included in quotes.. (if getting an Eddi hot water diverter then a Zappi would be the one to go for so you see theM all in the Myenergi app.)

I have Solar PV but only have Tesla gen 2 charger, but I make it work though it’s a very manual process (and having a home storage battery helps cover any peaks/troughs as I set the car to charge based on the average of excess my system is producing).

since April 5th I’ve only charged the car from the grid once (on Monday morning put 20% (10kWh) into the car), all the rest has been Solar excess for around about 800km of driving!!! Though it looks like I might need another grid charge tonight as the weather looks pants for the next 2-3 days….

Had my drive unit die on my 6 month old M3 after it drove me from Dublin to Laois last week. Only 2,500km on the clock. Was odd. It drove the whole way there no issue. I left it charging at the hotel and when I came back out it refused to shift gears at all. Made pushing it onto the flatbed heaps of fun without neutral. Towing mode is kinda like neutral but is very finnicky.

To be fair to them Tesla roadside assistance got the car towed quickly and said they'll have the faulty inverter parts replaced early next week, then organised a loaner for me in the meantime. I was wondering though since I'm pretty sure they'll be replacing the Drive unit do I get a new 4 year warranty on the replacement part? Or will they simply leave out the details of what they did and try to pinch 6 months of warranty from me? Anyone experience this?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 39,073 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

The new part will be warranty for the remainder of the main car warranty or normally 12 months. Whatever is longer. That’s standard practice across the motor industry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Virgil°

See the thing is Tesla specifically name the DU in their warranty info:

    • Drive Unit*: 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first

It would be a bit crap to lose the 6 months if they do replace the DU. And incredibly **** to have that chopped down to a year for such an expensive part that failed in 6 months on me.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 39,073 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Standard practice across all or most industries. I had the DSC unit replaced by bmw under warranty and got the same 12 months. Your 4 years started on the day of collection.

Had my battery replaced by Tesla on my 2014 P85 and the warranty was only for the remainder of the 8 years which was 18 months at the time.

Got the latest software update. Few niggly things that didn't need to be installed (silly little bong noise when changing to drive or reverse).

Noticed this morning that I put an address in the nav screen. Was on my way there and I stopped at the shop to get the papers. When I got back in the route had cancelled itself and I had to re-enter it again. Normally the address stayed on the screen and you continued on your trip.

The bongs for the gear selector can be turned off. Its in the same list alongside joe mode.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,515 ✭✭✭eagerv

I actually don't mind the bongs. They aren't loud and annoying like on our Hyundai. Forward is two notes ascending, reverse same two notes descending.

I hope the EU comes down hard on Auto makers for the right to repair once warranties of these EVs expire. It will hopefully enable indy mechanics to specialise in EVs and repairs should be cheaper than the main dealer route.

I'll see maybe this week. I didn't get the update on my car and now it's in service. Should have it back in a few days apparently.

Something hit my 2022 Model 3 windscreen above the camera module and the screen has a substantial crack in it. I’m no expert but I’ll be amazed if it’s repairable. So my questions are…

    • anybody have experience of replacing a windscreen on a M3? Is it going to be a nightmare?
    • does it have to be Tesla or can Autoglass or a similar outfit do it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,393 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

I had a similar issue with the rear window.

Tried Tesla and Autoglass. The strange thing was, Tesla said they'd set up an appointment but that Autoglass would probably get the part quicker. Tesla advised to keep both routes open and if you had to cancel the Tesla appointment because Autoglass got the part, that'd be OK that Tesla would find the use for it.

Was waiting a couple of weeks for the part, but it was a 2-3 hour / 2 person job when they got it. (it was done under windscreen cover with insurance)

Thanks for the reply. Any idea what the total cost was? My insurance only offers €400 and I have a feeling that won’t get close.
