Problems with new car

    Hi everyone,

    I'd appreciate some advice on problems I've been having with a brand new car. I'm not going to disclose the brand or the dealer just yet.

    Basically it's been having electrical issues resulting in dashboard warnings since day one. The garage keep taking it back (it's in for its fourth time at the moment) but don't seem to be getting a handle on actually resolving the issue. It's been away more often than I've had it in the last six weeks or so.

    I've emailed the dealership and the parent brand's customer care address (awaiting a response on both).

    At this point I'm unsure about whether or not I trust the car to keep it or what I want to do.

    I'd appreciate the advice of anyone who's found themselves in this situation or has any particular insight about how I should proceed.

    reject the car as not fit for purpose , did exactly that with a seat about two months ago that had huge problems with the infotainment system ,

    was a known problem and got a full refund

    It's not fit for purpose is it? Get different car . I'd say dealership is probably not fit either...😁

    It would really help if you gave at least some insight into the error I think.

    A faulty tyre pressure monito probably wouldn't be reasonable reason to reject a car IMO, especially if you've been given a replacement in the meantime, but if it was an engine fault, that would be much more reasonable as it could be a major, expensive fault that leaves you stranded.

    All I can say for now is that its a generic vehicle malfunction warning and the car doesn't seem to be affected performance wise. However, the car has a remote monitoring and notification facility via an app that's telling me that it's now detecting an engine malfunction - I've not seen this in person myself.

    I do feel though that the car, being brand new, ought to be perfect from the get go.

    As a general rule - you're on safe ground to reject the vehicle if the dealership has had multiple attempts at fixing the SAME issue. If it's different issues, you can reject but you must give the dealership a chance to remedy each issue. Of course there's more to it than that and you might encounter some resistance from dealer or distributor too. Hope that helps

    The 1st repair should be permanent, so if the tyre pressure monitor fails again it's not the OPs problem it's the dealers. The fecking least a company can do is give you a loaner when the item they sold you is faulty.

    Drive it back empty of any belongings and in as close a condition as you received it, pull it in to the customer carpark, put the keys on the reception desk with sealed letter, copied to your Solicitor, fully detailing the faults and the steps you have attempted to address them and their failure to react. The letter should conclude that you are formally rejecting the car and that the sale and any finance arrangement, PCP conditions etc, are all hereby voided.

    PS I'll bet all the money in my wallet that the manufacturer is French.

    I've had some reassuring contact from the Irish Distrubutor today, so for the moment I'm going to see where the latest repair goes. I do have a courtesy car, so that's something also.

    It's a quite unique combination of spec and engine that would need a special order to replicate, so rejecting the car for me, is a last resort. Good to understand that the option isn't unrealistic at this stage, though.

    To bring this to a conclusion, at the fourth time of repair the dealership spent almost a month (would have been shorter but for the need to await parts from outside the country, multiple times) diagnosing and repairing what turned out to be two separate faults. During that time I had the use of a courtesy car with the insurance fully covered. I got it back last week and it all seems to be sorted, touch wood.

    They were quite thorough and insisted that their techs do some representative mileage over a few days before returning it to me, to make absolutely sure that the issues were resolved. It's not ideal, but no manufacturer, dealer or service centre goes out of their way to supply a faulty car so I'm chalking this down to bad luck.

    A happy ending, in short. I'm glad that I had a little patience but I think getting the distributor involved did help a little. I'm now looking forward to enjoying the car.

    Nissan is part of an alliance with Renault, that Japanese make?

    I could have an unjustified opinion but its just something about people I know buying Renaults down through the years and having problems, its a make I stay clear of, again it might be unjustified.

    Because the exact model, trim and engine is quite unique and I don’t feel like leaving a digital footprint that could identify me IRL at any point.
