Only practice session is not exactly going to plan, red flagged after gaslys car went on fire. Hamilton didn't even get out of the garage yet, magnussen parked it into T1 and Tsunoda damaged his car too

So what time is qualifying lights out ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,247 ✭✭✭rameire

I have qualifying at 2pm today on my Calendar

F2 had a red flag, unsure if this will have an impact on the F1.

cheers. No I was hoping depending on what time it started and not the coverage I might be home in time to watch it live. I do finish slightly earlier on a Friday but I’d say I’m pushing it. I am recording it.

The sprint races started off good then folks decided not to take any risks so they turned into a complete procession.

Pierre Gasley hits the same wall that Nick hit now but sideways and not head on like Nick De Vries did.

So another Fed Flag and Q1 is not even over yet lol. Still 7:32 on the timer.

This street circuit is no longer suitable for these now enormous F1 cars.

I know Monte Carlo isn't either, but it's far easier to get rid of Baku, so they should. Either that or design out the ridiculously narrow and tight sections that cause persistent issues.

So the two Haas and the Alfa of Zhoe are out.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 736 CMod ✭✭✭✭LIGHTNING

And by issues you mean drivers making mistakes and binning it? Cos that's not a track issue

I don't see any problem with it. I think it's a great track. The cars have always been big here.

    Russell in 11th , ocon 12th, Albon 13th , bottas 14th and Sargent 15th

    Q3 up soon :)

Disappointing from Mercedes - they were more than decent last time out and they’re straight back to struggling for pace.

The design seems fundamentally flawed, as long as they stick with it they’ll have a middling season with the odd podium where it suits the car.

Ferrari looking better but will they have the race pace to keep up with RB

Fair play to Yuki, he's definitely stepped up this year

wow identical time, you dont see that too often

    Some lap from Leclerc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭This is it

Delighted for LeClerc, he needed that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,389 ✭✭✭McFly85

    Brilliant from Leclerc!

So it's Charles Leclerc on pole Max 2n Sergio 3rd Carlis Seinz 4th Hamilton 5th and Alonso in 6th. Then it's Norris Tsunado, stroll and Piastri.

Ferrari finally lit a fire under the cars arse

Tomorrow or Sunday? Or maybe both! 😂

Stuck in the office so had to watch live timings. Fair play to Leclerc, must've been some lap from him. But I'm hoping Max will sail past him on Sunday. Lewis did well to be best of the rest and ahead of Alonso I see - but he's pretty much a full second off the pole time - looking forward to watching it back later to catch a glimpse of Toto's face, and Russell for that matter. 😁

Nice grid that, both Astons had DRS failures so they have pace in hand. Delighted to see Ferrari on top again, Charles is mega around here and could do with a good result.

Pretty shocked at the Mercs, I know they are struggling but that seems a bit worse.

Nearly completely forgot about the sprint shootout being on this early

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,708 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Much warmer over there compared to yesterday quali they said. Will be interesting to see how this goes with the shortened time for each session.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,329 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Ohhh Sargeant ending the session for everyone

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,708 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Charles and Max both miles ahead of their teammates so far. Leclerc seems to be the man to beat. Poor Yuki. 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,732 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Didn’t know there was a spirit Qualy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,329 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Verstappen and LeClerc just swapping purple sectors

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

What a joke with this tyre situation. Getting into Q3 and can't take part. Only in F1

Aston need to sort that DRS problem out or they’ll suffer tomorrow.

Better off not knowing. I personally don't care about. It and the sprint race should have been on yesterday and the proper qualy should be today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

Red bulls already lined up for q3 a few minutes in advance..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,532 ✭✭✭NinjaTruncs

To be fair, they were given 5 or 6 sets of soft and only needed to keep one set for sq3, the team chose not to, 18 other drivers managed to keep a set.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,708 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Exactly. They chose to prioritise quali for the main race over the sprint which is fair enough. Shame McLaren didn’t use the fact Norris couldn’t run in SQ3 to help Piastri get there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

Yes, this is why am probably more annoyed about it.

Was just thinking, isn’t the even numbered grid slots on the inside at this track? Second place might not be too bad a result for someone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,329 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Classic Leclerc, puts it on pole and also puts the car into a barrier

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,708 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Ok so that was such an anti climax - you have to keep using the same soft tyre in SQ3 and it only lasts for one fast lap. So we get everyone crawling around before their second run only to go slower anyway. They might need to tweak that 1 tyre rule crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,732 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

That wasn’t great. Good thing leclerc had put it on pole prior to hitting the barrier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,193 ✭✭✭mr_edge_to_you

For Sprint Quali, put the lower placed teams on softs, midfield on medium and top teams on hards. Potentially mix up the grid for the Sprint.
