Commentators on Gaa Go havent got a clue, only mentioning the sun being a factor in the last minute of the first half.

No red for Maher as the pundits, and the masses who support the game being played "on the edge", have made hurling a game where this sort of s**t is acceptable.

Fitzgibbon wasn't the only one who took a concussion inducing blow to the head, Harnedy did too, and the Tipp player then tried dragging him to his feet by the scruff of his shirt.

Time bomb ticking here, players aren't being protected from blows that cause trauma to the brain, long term health being sacrificed at the altar of letting the game flow.

The real culprits here are the Cork management who chose not to remove two potentially concussed players from the pitch immediately. They had time to reflect on this and did nothing. If their own management will not protect the players what hope is there?

Super game last night. It caught fire in the second half and was a throw back to previous Munster Championship clashes.

tip played the better hurling over the near 80 minutes but still couldn't get over the line. 5 up with 10 to play, Cork showed great heart and determination to get back into it, especially when after a comeback they were hit with Tip's 3rd goal. You could sense Cork had the ability to get goals against that defence from the first attack when Hoggie showed great control firstly, sidestepped his man with ease and bore down on goal. He really should have finished it off but it was a good sign nonetheless.

Tip settled well and were well worth their lead before Cork again goaled to get back into it. The second half was a bit of a cracker, challenges galore, goals galore and the crowd really got into it. Not too impressed with the ref either.

Draw was a fair result. Munster hurling didn't disappoint - a pity more couldn't watch it !!

    Roll on Ennis!

Apparently 9,000 punters in Croke Park last evening for Dublin v Wexford. Nearly as many seagulls at the game. Parnell with 9,000 would have been a hot atmosphere. Might need looking at going forward.

When you say more couldn't watch it is there a limit on the amount of people who can subscribe to watch it?

Might be more apt to say more chose not watch it.

I was among those who chose not to watch it as I was at a club game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,320 ✭✭✭howiya

I said yesterday morning that there wouldn't be many at this but didn't expect the crowd to be that low. Lots of club games in Dublin yesterday afternoon and evening. Presume similar in Wexford.

I imagine he was referring to people who might not have had access to internet? No need to pity people like yourself who knowingly chose not to watch it so I doubt referencing your category is more "apt".

No Saturday Game last night for the two big hurling games. Both pay per view i've talked to a few people today and like myself we couldn't discuss the games bar the basics. The window is small for the hurling championship and depriving fans of the few games during the summer months is not the way to go. Many wont pay out of principle, other elderly might not have the know-how. Either way its not promoting the game and leaving a bit of a sour taste in the mouth. 10 minutes highlights of one of the games biggest rivals is all many of us are going to see tonight. And probably far less of Dubs game. We're being fed scraps.

    €8

Done the double at 80/1, bloody Wexford and their wides

92% of households have the internet according to the CSO. Obviously signal strength will vary across areas but the reality is most people who didn't see last night's games chose not to sign up and watch it.

Another poster referred to bring deprived ffs.

€2 a game. Even cheaper if you're a GAA member. 10% off your subscription.

It’s €2 a game if you pay the lump sum of €79 or whatever it is. That’s a big lump that may not be manageable for a lot of people.

I'd be of the mind that there a lot more people out there who won't pay rather than can't pay.

Sligo Galway and Clare Kerry on Sunday afternoon TV. Non contests. Both played in half empty stadia.

Prime marquee hurling matches behind a paywall.

    Joke.

can never understand why people expect every game to be shown live, in full and for free. How did we survive when you were lucky to have All Ireland semi finals televised?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,130 ✭✭✭Rosita

I didn't say the Cork management had anything to do with tackles on their players. You should've read the post more carefully before replying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,130 ✭✭✭Rosita

Inevitably you will get to a point with any service/product where people have the money to afford something but choose to use their money differently just the same as you will do yourself. You're not seriously suggesting there is any obligation to do otherwise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Pablo Escobar

Did I read it wrong then when you said “the real culprits here are the Cork management”?

Does that comment not exonerate the tackler, or at least rank the tackler as being at a lower level of fault?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,130 ✭✭✭Rosita

You are taking two extremes - one where people pay for games and another where only a couple of games were shown. For many years there was an in-between situation where all the most significant games were shown live and the sky didn't cave in. Charging for televising of matches is not such a blindingly obvious thing to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,130 ✭✭✭Rosita

Tacklers are playing a physical game. Inevitably there will be tackles delivered with legitimate intentions and have bad consequences. Sometimes they will be delivered with bad intentions and will gave bad consequences. The referee is there to adjudicate on that.

However, where potential concussion is involved (as we were assured by the poster there was) the management should have removed the players immediately. Unless of course you think there is not a duty of care. Tacklers made decisions in the heat of the moment in a fast moving environment. Management has time to rationalise the situation and take correct action.

I realise of course the original poster (and probably the others who replied too) doesn't genuinely give a flying f*ck about player welfare and the key motivation is to have someone send off to advantage the other team. But if you're going to use words like concussion it's no harm to point that there are others who have culpability in respect of players' well-being.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,320 ✭✭✭howiya

I've no idea what your point is. A couple of hours ago you quoted me and argued when I said people chose not to watch the game last night.

Now you're saying they are making a choice.

There is no obligation on anyone to subscribe to GAAGo. But don't complain that you can't see the matches if you choose not to subscribe.

I did not mention"cheap shots". I am saying that if the Cork management knowingly left on players suffering or potentially suffering from concussion as you allege then there is a case to answer.
