I just turned on AdGuard DNS on my phone to block the ads. The anime ads where bad enough but the full screen ones are just taking the piss.

Good job Mike on the solution to make the user experience better! It may be worth reviewing the original scope though as ye seem to have headed in the opposite direction

ill probably just use it for the golf society now but I expect that will die soon enough also because it relies on site traffic which will disappear very soon at the rate the site is going

It does feel like a dodgy website with the full screen ads. Bound to annoy people who are already frustrated with a dying boards. Things have never been to same since the big change in platform

Thanks for this. The full screen ads prompted me to go looking for how to add an ad blocker to chrome on android. However clearing cookies and denying permission when prompted seems to have solved the issue.

As an added bonus there's now no ads showing on boards although the placeholders are still there but I can live with that.

Very inconvenient and makes me more so NOT want to be tempted by any advert, however emotive the message although it's advertising, so many will click and subsequently pay.

So these full page adds are part of the site...I thought I might have malware or virus ... judging by the posting, this came in over the last few days...I was in the UK all weekend and never came across these adds, but minute I was home they appeared...geo active?

There was a change implemented as a fix for the ads covering the button for the comment box on the mobile version of the site. I will look into this issue of full page ads and see what is going on? Thanks.

For me, advertisements are invisible. As soon as I see one, I immediately start to look for the button to dismiss it does decide to get paid just for displaying the advertising? Even if nobody was to ever click on any of them.

With the full page ads on mobile dismissing the ad doesn't bring you to the latest post in the thread, it brings you to the last post in the thread. it is a pain in the arse.

The small ad that use to be at the bottom of the screen is now across the top on mobile phone.

Blocks everything scroll bar profile followed treads ect.

Have to close the ad every time just to use the site

I was just coming here to say this. It's actually even worse than the full page ad. You have to scroll back up to the top of every page now to access the Boards home button.

Lads, seriously, are this crowd you use for ads a Transition Year project or something? Because they're beyond incompetent and, I'm sorry to say, making you look the same.

Honestly, if the ads are annoying (which they clearly are) just download an adblocker. I don't really understand why someone wouldn't at this stage.

After the boards downgrade happened, the ads got to a daft level so I put Blokada on my phone after advice from other users here.

Problem solved. Never looked back

I'm using Addblock Plus on IPhone - but its not as thorough as desktop and don't remove these full page adds.

I'm not moving to android just for boards - and I dont know if the Android blockers are any better anyway.

Ill give "Blockada" a try...

You can just delete the boards cookies from your browser and say no to the prompts to allow cookies.

No need to install anything that you don't necessarily trust.

According to their blog - it used to be free - but due to change with apple - they need to rely more on servers to do the work rather than the phone - so they need charge Apple owners - also does that mean your web traffic, forms, ,passwords etc. is being scrubbed on some server remotely...

This is doing my head in, on my phone now can't scroll down as half way up page instead of just at bottom but what is worse is 99% when I go to close the ad with x it clicks onto it instead because its so awkward where it is.

The full page ads bad enough but at least can close easy this is just head wrecking.

What in the name of god is going on with the ads??? I have 2 ads on nearly every page.

Type 1 has been around for a while and is more tolerable as it’s in a fixed position

Type 2 is an absolute abomination! I can’t get rid of it and if I scroll the opposite direction it takes up nearly half the page

Something needs to be done, the site is close to unusable now. Horrendous

On Android mobile, I use Chrome for pretty much all my internet browsing, except for Boards.

Boards gets viewed on the Brave browser, which appears to do an excellent job of stripping out all the things other posters here are having issues with.

The ads on mobile are absolutely pervasive. They pop up from the bottom and take up a third of the screen. It causes your screen to jump, and it causes you to accidentally click on the ad. It is ridiculously bad.

The new pop up ads are making using the site almost impossible. We understand ad revenue is important but christ it's way OTT right now. Every page you navigate to has the same annoying pop up.

The new ads are close to the final straw. The site went down hill big time with the switch to vanilla but these ads are just ridiculous. Popping up on nearly every page taking up a chunk of the screen and you can't even dismiss them fully. And they are for stuff I have zero interest in. Dreadful.

If you're gonna use a different browser, you may as well use Firefox so you get dark mode as well. I use it specifically for boards.ie.

Dark Reader extension + uBlock Origin / Blokada.
