At least 4 previous group stage teams there, including last year's "almost made it" Sheriff.

Seems very early for them to be in it again.

Decent first round draw for Shamrock Rovers, if they win their first round game then they'll get a a playoff for Europa League and if they lose that then a final round playoff for the Europa Conference

Amazon to broadcast Tuesday night Champions League games in UK from 2024

.Amazon will broadcast the “top-pick” Tuesday night Champions League fixtures in the UK from 2024.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Amazon was joining BT in showing Champions League matches in the UK for the 2024-2027 period, with the BBC also showing highlights.

Amazon says its pick of Tuesday matches will always include an English team during the group stages and up until the semi-finals, should Premier League sides progress that far.

“The addition of UEFA Champions League football is a truly momentous moment for Prime Video in the UK,” said Alex Green, MD Prime Video Sport Europe.

“Since 2018, we’ve seen millions of Prime members in the UK enjoy live sport on Prime Video, and it’s that passion and energy that has led us to this exciting next step.

There are a few reports appearing that the UEFA Exec Committee have decided to allow standing in England, France and Germany for this seasons European comps on a one year trial basis. And it's being left up to local laws how it's done so it doesn't have to be safe standing like in England. So the German clubs with open terraces can have the full capacity.

It's cool - but still leaves us in a position where level doesn't exist. The example they show of a knee being a hair off, is exactly the sort of one i'd rather be let go. Offside is fundamentally about stopping a significant advantage from one's position. A knee caught an inch offside in mid-stride is no real advantage.

I’ve said this for ages. You shouldn’t apply a rule down to millimetres because players are not capable or judging to that precision in real time.

The only 2 questions they should be asking are: Is the player significantly ahead, and if not, did the slight offside give the player an advantage. It’s really not that difficult.

That leaves a lot open to interpretation though, 1 persons judging what's slightly offside is different than what another person interpretation is. That's I suppose the beauty of offside, aside from goal-line technology it is the only black and white incident that VAR call actually call on. But I do agree that is annoying as a fan seeing a forward a few inches offside.

Yep it would be up to the ref to decide, but sure that’s his job! It’s also the reason I can’t see it happening as I’m sure the refs are happy to have technology judge it instead of them.

I just think it’s a bit silly to have a rule on the books that it’s not really possible for the players to adhere to. It’s like telling defenders they’ll give away a penalty is they commit a foul 18 yards from goal and then not drawing the lines on the pitch.

Before VAR, it was accepted that the idea of being level had some leeway. You could see a replay with someone’s foot maybe slightly ahead of the defender but nobody would really kick up a fuss because it was evident the attacker wasn’t attempting to gain an advantage. I think that’s more in spirit with what the law should be.

So VAR can now judge an offside as a black and white call, I just don’t think it’s a black and white rule!

The thing is tho offside is not up to the refs. Its completely controlled by VAR and the line technology so its black and white onside or offside. I don't like it myself but I can't see it changing. To be honest I think the offside calls are the least of their worry's when it comes to VAR issues. The absolute blatant inconsistent laws around penalties and hand ball in the box. The Welbeck incident in the UTD game for example, how does VAR not intervene there? It is the most obvious peno you will see this season. They missed an identical one last season on Jota against Spurs. Like these are the easy wins for VAR, intervene in incidents like those 2 and everybody will be full of praise as nobody is going to say they got it wrong but it’s like they loving bringing negative attention on themselves.

Amazing for the Scottish league to have two representatives for first time since 2007. Really well deserved for Rangers who obviously came so close to automatic qualification having lost Europa final on penalties.

PSG drawn with Juve. Di Maria going back to Paris.

Spurs get Eintracht Frankfurt. Handy draw.

    Liverpool get Ajax. Decent draw.

City get Sevilla. That should be fun.

Barca get Bayern. Some painful memories there.

Chelsea face Milan. That's a good tie.

Liverpool get Ajax, also a decent draw.

I can't figure this draw out. Why could Liverpool only get A B or C ?

Napoli in with Ajax and Liverpool. Some nice ties there.

Dortmund in with City. Haaland going back there already.

Inter in with Bayern and Barca. That looks the Group of Death.

Well group C is the group of death

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,504 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Because Liverpool and Man City are paired along with Chelsea being paired with Spurs so since Man City were drawn in group G Liverpool had to go into the other half of the draw so they are not on TV on the same night. Same for Spurs and Chelsea only its not just TV for them its so there is not 2 games on in London on the same night.

Didn't Liverpool play Celtic in the 90's or was that Uefa Cup?
