Of course he would, he was still being blackmailed for military aid as Russia were posturing to invade his country.

Anyway we have been through all this, he was impeached.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,408 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Fact check : the impeachment process proved he didn't blackmail Ukraine. Not only that but

slow down there: what evidence was shown at impeachment that proves he didn’t blackmail Ukraine?

So you think he does have a solution? - Well everything about everything he has ever said and done in his entire life would suggest otherwise , but we can agree to disagree on that point for the moment.

So what you are saying is that he has a solution , but won't share it unless he gets back into Office and as such is happy to allow thousands of people to die just of he can be the hero of his own story if he were to be elected?

And that's a good thing is it??

Donald's creams the cnn panel after Trump pasteurized the network. No wonder the left are having a meltdown for alowing him to speak. This is why Democrats support deplatforming over free and open debate.

    Another dump. No thanks.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

    "Debate" involves decorum.

  • Registered Users Posts: 478 ✭✭Run Forest Run

No, I would say whatever solution he has in his mind probably hinges on whether he gets elected.

Like I said, if certain bad actors don't want this conflict to end... then it would take someone very powerful to stop them. I don't think it's as simple as saying, do this and the conflict will end. It's more a case of forcing certain people to do what he wants. (or perhaps firing certain key leaders)

People predicted all sorts of conflicts happening under Trump's presidency, and none of them materialised. That was the biggest fear when he initially got elected, that he was a hot head who would start multiple wars. And yet the opposite happened. Biden was supposed to be the sane and respectable anti-Trump candidate, yet his administration has the world closer to nuclear Armageddon than we've ever been. And very close to what would be a catastrophic conflict with China as well.

I think there are a lot of Americans who will be desperate enough to hedge their bets with Trump and hope he can steer the ship away from the rocks. The alternative is to cross all your fingers and toes, and hope Biden has a better 2nd term. But I don't think there is much confidence of that happening. I think the democrats made a huge mistake not giving their voters an alternative to Biden.

Biden hasn't done anything to bring us closer to nuclear conflict. Trump on the other hand legitimised fascists and tyrants all around the world and behaved obsequiously with regard to many of them including Putin and Xi. If you're highlighting his failure to cause WW3 as a success, I'm not sure what to say to be honest.

It’s surprising to find anyone extoling the Orange Dimwit’s ability to «make a deal» of any kind.

Sure, being a «Dealmaker» has been part his branding for years. There was even a book on the subject that got ghostwritten for him. (I wonder if he ever read the whole thing himself).

But Trump’s relationship with deals seems to mostly involve blagging himself into the room, tricking some banks to give him credit (in the 80s) and then proceed to break every «deal» by routinely not paying for what was agreed.

He was so good with «deals» that most major banks will no longer give him a line of credit. His ability to «deal» resulted in damage to US bilateral relations for much of his time in the White House.

The bell-end has no way to actaully strike a deal regarding the Ukraine War, beyond surrendering the place to his buddy Putin. He wouldn’t care less about the Ukrainian people. None of them are named «Donald Trump» and none of them are overweight self-obsorbed pilloks with a bad spray-tan. Otherwise, he might care.

There are no rocks. The world is no closer to nuclear war than it was 3 years ago.

The easiest way for the war to end is for the Russian army to go to Russia. However Trump seems unlikely to have that power and therefore the war will not end with Trump in power. All any Trump deal will do is encourage the Russians to rearm and invade whatever remains of the Ukraine or Georgia.

Plus Trump came off badly in every 1 on 1 meeting he had. From backtracking meekly from comments about Theresa May, having the EU explained to him like he was a child, love letters to Kim or Putin securing exclusive chats without any records on the US side.

So Trump could end the conflict if he was re-elected, it seems after years of nonsense we have arrived back at a form of he’s playing 4D chess.

The claim that Biden is down in approval rating is the claim I made- that’s public knowledge anyway I couldn’t be arsed debating that at this stage- it’s clear you and others are only interested in an echo chamber

You've yet to provide a link or citation on any of your claims today, 'that's public knoledge' is just 'do your own research'

People predicted all sorts of conflicts happening under Trump's presidency, and none of them materialised. That was the biggest fear when he initially got elected, that he was a hot head who would start multiple wars. And yet the opposite happened.

That's funny because blackmailing Zelensky was one of many of the impetuses for the invasion of Ukraine, ie. the overwhelming propaganda from Kremlin that the Ukrainian government was irredeemably corrupt.

He also refused to condemn the invasion of crimea as a candidate and sought to recognize it as Russian territory. The emboldened Russia further, clearly.

During his presidency he had his own 'shadow administration' (ie. his team of personal lawyers) engage in Ukraine with previously deposed and provably corrupt russian sympathizing political officers to the benefit of Russia. Shortly after meeting them those former officers engage in partisan op eds in the hill nakedly accusing the then Ukrainian government of election interference in 2016 linking the embassy in Kiev to the DNC. While this campaign of undermining the ccredibility and stability of the Ukrainian state was going on, Trump ordered military aid approved by congress to be suspended indefinitely, and at least a week later he has the infamous shakedown call with zelensky, asking him for the same type of political assistance he had Giuliani apparently advising Lutsenko to accuse the DNC/Ukrainian government of doing.

And we haven't even discussed the abandoning of the Kurds (led to more war and bloodshed) this only helped perpetuate a war that has now lasted 12 years. He called that "strategically brilliant"

He also unilaterally negotiated with the Taliban through his subordinate Mike Pompeo, signing an agreement with a literal terrorist organization, an agreement that was not co-signed or consulted on by the lawful Afghanistan government, which unconditionally released at least 5,000 taliban terrorists back on to the battlefield, while at roughly the same time drawing us down to just 2,500 troops in theater and creating a situation with such chaos and glee that the country has backslid into a taliban controlled state. He was very proud of the fact that Afghanistan was careening down that road:

Nevermind that he completely scrubbed a nuclear proliferation agreement with Iran because he was simply mad that Obama could take credit for it IG, and lo and behold, Iran is proliferating weapons again (ie. bringing us closer to nuclear war). Trump engaged in new conflict by assassinating at least one of it's military leaders by drone strike as well. And quite flauntingly I have to say - whereas the GWB/Obama administrations still haven't acknowledged stuxnet was a US operation IIRC.

Oh - he also, domestically, incited if not coordinated and planned a seditious and violent effort to overthrow our democracy, actively stage-set by Trump's election denialism and refusal to participate in the peaceful transition of power. Leading at least a few people to worry about, the hanging of vice presidents and such.

All sorts of conflicts did happen under Trump, and he was proud of them on more than one occasion - where were you?

This is the claim(s) you made, for which we have receipts:

But if you don't want to defend your claims that he is "nearly unintelligible," hey I wouldn't blame you.

Look at the posters rushing to defend a sex offender. It's not really that shocking.

The Republicans are tethered to the fat lump of crap though. That's the problem. They helped create a monster and are now trapped into support of that monster, because of the idiot army he commands. It's almost impossible for them to now untether themselves from him and they'll only do so when he's truly a busted flush. In addition, there's nobody else they have that could run and pick up the same numbers. They really are caught in their own snare.

So they'll close the eyes and hold their nose to the fact that the so called party of law and order now have a sex offender running as the primary Presidential nominee and hope this bit of inconvenience will be forgotten about when it comes time for the polls.

The reality should be that someone like Trump wouldn't be allowed run for that kind of office in a fully functioning democracy. Unfortunately, America is anything but fully functioning.

Morals and the Republican Party haven't been bedfellows for over 40 years.

The problem for them though is that he's reached this point. Outside of his base, he has no support. Nobody is neutral on Trump at this point and that means his support base is only going to slowly shrink away over time. Not by 2024, unfortunately for the GOP but they will remain tarred with the odious orange stain nonetheless.

The irony of this loola criticising CNN, which was effectively doing the Democrats biding for the last 7 years. The propaganda wing of the party.

CNN's ratings are in the toilet, the new owners arent going to be the mouthpiece for the Democrats anymore which is a good thing not a bad thing.

The channel is looking to be more Centrist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,189 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

At present, it looks that way. But you know how this goes. Republican voters will hold their noses and toss Trump a vote come election time. It has little to do with neutrality. This is how America is in the situation it's in at the moment where they have two relatively poor Presidential candidates to offer.

The partisan nature of US politics will regularly mean people voting for the worst option, cos they don't want let the other lot in and the GOP mob excel at it. Don't be surprised if Trump gets a massive turnout, once his campaign is off and running.

Hopefully, Democratic voters continue to remind themselves of what happened when they stayed away from the voting booths when Hilary ran. Because, while Biden is no great shakes AFAIC, he's a much, MUCH, better option than Trump will ever be.

The whole system over there really needs a massive rejig.

    According to Gallup:

It's kind of unfair to compare the two as Biden still has quite a way to go in this term but what we can see is Biden already had a higher approval rate than Trump ever had. Whether he gets lower than Trump's 34%, only time will tell

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,408 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

You didn't cite any examples of where CNN "platformed atrocious misinformation" for the Democrats?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,058 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

If that's an example of being 'Centrist', I shudder to think what the 'Right Wing' or 'Fascist' content looks like. The man is a pure bully and blaggard and has only got away with it because he's so outrageous in his utterings. Needs a good strong interviewer/ media to put him in his place and turn off the microphone/ feed when he starts steamrollering. They'll have to get tough on Trump, lay down the ground rules and if he deviates, stop his bile and rubbish.
