I can set my ioniq to charge at 4 amps, 230x4= 920 watts as measured by a plug in consumption meter in line.

There are two menu places for settings, portable and public or similar however in my case my granny cable is not Hyundai branded and not impacted by "portable" setting instead by the other setting.

I would warn again using a menu in the car to prevent charging fires, ideally the charger and cable tell the car the maximum they are capable of, and this is achieved by a resistor or charger message. The risk is you change car to speed up charging when out and about and forget to set it back. It's also unclear what slow, medium and fast options actually are without an inline power meter, and as said there is two different "slows". I set everything to slow when granny charging to be on the safe side. My dodgy adverts.ie granny cable will draw 14 amps constantly from a 13 amp outlet if I let have its own way. It's even marked as 16 amp with a 13 amp plug and "Chinese" 13A fuse. Don't trust the numbers on a YouTube video as your car may be different.

I've been offered that on my 28 kWh for an MG. Seems to be their standard low-ball offer now. Even the dealer thought I could get more by listing it myself. Meanwhile, they are advertising a 141 BMW i3 for €17k....

    Morning folks.

    Couple of questions.

First is this annoying "Battery discharge warning" I'm getting when sitting in the car listening to the radio or whatever. Thought the 12V was weak, but disconnected it, tried to trickle charge it, but it only lasted 2 or 3 minutes on the charger before it said it's full. So I'm assuming it's not the battery itself. Is it just a stupid Hyundai overly-sensitive thing?

Secondly, there's a chance I have to head from Cork to Tullamore in a couple of weeks. Assuming the best route is M8 onto M7 to Portlaoise, then cross-country for the remainder. Anyone have any input into best charging locations en route?

That message is just to let you know it's using the 12v and not the traction battery, doesn't mean the battery is low or anything. I always leave the car "running" if I'm going to be sitting in it for a while like that, I think people have drained the 12v unexpectedly in the past on here from sitting in the car using the electronics.

That message is quite normal. It will actually switch off after a while.

I haven't had issues with my 12v battery failing but lots of others have

I use abrp for trips but wouldnt rely on it only. I have a heavy right foot & drive at gps speed limits on the motorway.

You can adjust it in ABRP settings to match your actual consumption.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,267 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

This is what ABRP is giving me for Cork to Tullamore (think this would be doing 120km/h on the motorway parts):

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭zg3409

This is perfectly normal warning. It's safer to leave car on as it tops up 12 volt. When this warning is on 12 volt can go flat quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Soarer

Thanks for all the info on the 12V battery. So basically leave the car "running" and we're grand.

That's very helpful and insightful @Mickeroo . If I'm reading that right, I should get to the Ionity in Cashel with less than 40%, charge for 10-15 minutes will get me back up over 80% again, and so on?

Must look into that ABRP. Looks good for taking the guesswork out of things.

Were you on the road today Soarer? I passed a black ioniq by mahon this afternoon . They're were Tailbacks as there was a truck broken down just after the tunnel.

I saw the same black ioniq further along the motorway again.

360kms spin for me today. I was going 81mph as read my the car but that equals 120kmh for me.

I spent 1hr 3 mins charging & arrived at i think 47%? It was 2 stops. Abrp wanted me to do 3 shorter but the thought of getting off the motorway again put me off. I like to arrive at my destination with extra charge in case i can't get on the hotel charger. Only 2 charger points here & i want to get on the road again in the morning. As it happens i got a charging space but there was no guarantee.

Frustratingly Fermoy only had the 50kw free & Portlaoise plaza the 150kw was limited to 50kw.

If i could have charged on full power it would gave meant 10 to 15 mins less at each charger.

No bother. Yeah that's it exactly.

It's a very useful app, has lots of different settings like different weather conditions, max speed etc

Has anyone ever had an issue with their EPCU? Mine failed and the garage is quoting 6800 to replace. It was replaced in 2018 as part of a recall for the EPCU. Anyone any advice on going the legal route on this as the part is only 5 years old and it was recalled already?

I recommend searching here for Irish EV repair specialists. The crowd in Arklow are good. Used parts may be available from UK. There was an ioniq 28kWh for breaking listed on a UK site that might have the parts you need.

    Example

They may be able to repair it. They have access to a shared database of previous issues and fixes and can send parts to UK to be repaired. Do you have any error codes thrown up or fault symptoms?

Beware the Arklow garage may have a 3 week wait to take car and they are closed today for a funeral.

I suggest you get a medium term alternative car in the hope your can be fixed on the cheap in a month or two.

Engine power control unit. I think the recall was that liquid cooling was leaking so the fault now may have nothing to do with the recall. The device is the large box at the front which excludes the drive motor. Typically it connects between batteries and motor but also handles charging too. It has different sections so it depends on what actually had broken.

Nightmare lordstilton, yikes that sounds like it could be an expensive fix

    17' Ioniq

Has anyone had any experience dealing with the aforementioned or any motor company for that matter? I have been waiting a year and a half for a warranty part and I have now been told I'll be waiting another 5 months, yep it's probably a new record. I have contacted:

ISIMI - Wouldn't take it on.

National consumers agency - Wouldn't take it on

Legal (X3) - All the same advice, it's cost prohibitive.

Unfortunately, Hyuandi Ireland doesn't seem to want to know about it and they seem to think it's going to go away with time. Anyone any advice?

What is the part they are waiting for?

I had a 191 Ioniq and a few warranty repairs waiting for parts but never more than about 6 weeks. I always found the dealership very good and on top of things.

  • Registered Users Posts: 190 ✭✭Jeditraining1

They have to replace the entire center console. This isn't the first issue I have had with them. The last one was 2.5 months after only owning the car (Kona) for 3 weeks. The dealer was really bad in that case.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭silver_sky

I used John Earls Motors above on a Zoe and they were great to deal with. You're dealing with a garage and mechanics rather than a flash dealership that usually don't have a clue. Cost came in at roughly half the dealer quoted cost and it was using the OEM part. Some of the savings were in that they knew what they were doing and also replaced the specific part rather than a huge assembly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 190 ✭✭Jeditraining1

Not possible in this case. How long are you working for them? :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭silver_sky

Fair enough. I don't work for them, not sure why you think that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Afternoon folks.

Roasting outside, so the first time I've tried he a/c.

First thing I noticed is the gauge only goes down to 15 degrees ie. there's no "cold". Is that normal?

Also, the air that blew out was far from cold.

Am I missing a setting for "cold"? Or could it be she needs re-gassing? How do you tell?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,084 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Turn on auto and turn it down to 15 and see does the light under AC go on? If it does and the air is still warm you might need to have the gas topped up?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,539 ✭✭✭eagerv

In reality you will not get a car to 15C when it is probably over 40C inside in strong sunshine. I always leave at about 18 or 20C in hot weather, still gets car very cool (Some of my passengers say too cool) without fan roaring trying to achieve a probably impossible temperature.

However if there isn't cool air coming out of the vents then may need regassing..

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Cheers lads.

Yeah, figured she'd need a regassing. There was little to no cool air coming out when I checked while ago.

Best place to get that done? Do Halfords do it? Assume the main dealer would flah me?

Don't go to Halfords, go to an A/C specialist. They will add marker in the system and if the pressure drops again after a while that will lead to easier identification of the source of the leak.
