    3 was always meant as the trial car for mass manufacturing aimed at the nerds who wanted a Tesla (no offence to anyone) and the Y the real cash cow aimed at the masses. If Tesla had done it the other way around, they'd be bankrupt by now. That's where we are at. The 3 will most likely be all but left to die, just like the S and the X

    Agreed they can't milk the Y forever, we'll have to see how their plans pan out. The pickup truck segment is very badly served by EVs at the moment with little to change there. The cybertruck could sell half a million vehicles per year in the USA alone, with margins the Y could only dream about. A smaller car? Maybe, but it will get crowded at the bottom very quickly. The Chinese are going to gulp this end up. Most of the other stuff you mention should be a billion plus market each within years except for the Roadster of course, very niche, if we will even see one in the next few years. I'd say it is very low on the priority list. Semi truck could be another cash cow as there is nothing around in the way of serious competition and if the discrepancy between fossil fuel and electricity prices will grow because of not just fiscal pressure but purely an economic move to renewables, transport companies will simply need to buy fully electric trucks to survive

    FSD will be the biggest one of all. If I could be a fly on the wall in the Tesla boardroom and could only pick one strategy area I could listen into, it would be this. Whoever wins full self driving will make more money per year from that alone than any car company has ever made from selling cars

    Halo product with bucket loads of problems, I know tesla share holders which I'm assuming you are tbh are absolutely astounding at continually pumping the brand in any situation they possibly find themselves but to say the model x is a daddy is nonsense. It's a six figure vehicle with multitudes of issues and dropped the absolute arse out of its price here and in the US near unfixable outside of specialist independents. Bizarre for what is essential a people carrier with motors on it .


    If this was a BMW at that value with the same problems you'd be blowing the shite out of it and rightly so BTW.

    The S is really the halo car and since the facelift model from 2016 it has been very reliable with no known expensive issues. I'm no fan of the X, I agree with you there are many lemons out there.

    I do own a Tesla and I own Tesla shares for full disclosure. But I am certainly not a fanboi of the organisation that is Tesla, see my comments in the last few posts alone. In fact I'm currently taking Tesla to court and it is not the first time, although I probably shouldn't be posting this. Neither time did it have anything to do with problems with a car I have or had.

    That's "Chuck's left turn" - a classic for anyone following FSD for the last few years. These turns in the USA are lethal, LOL, many human drivers wouldn't even take that turn, never even mind doing it safely 😂

    It's pretty good now but that wasn't always the case. At some point Musk got wind of the situation and he specifically mentioned "Chuck's left turn" as having been addressed in one of the releases, I think some time last year.

    The semi won’t be a volume seller in any way - the US market is literally 5 times the 2nd place China for ‘heavy duty truck sales’, and it varies from 95-190k sales pa, for $150-175k average price.

    the worldwide market for semi’s is about 1.5-1.9m. The other volume manufacturers already have an electric offering if you want one.

    Now imagine an electric $250k truck. The addressable market is far smaller than you’d think. Most American trucks are decades old - they’re not going EV any time soon.

    the Pepsi deal is interesting, but they’re only towing Cheetos crisps trailers at the moment, and not tonnes of drinks.

    FSD had promise, of course it does - but there’s clearly been a fork in the road in respect of the tech, cameras versus lidar. The issue is that theyre trying to apply logic to chaos theory - billions of possible outcomes for every situation

    Indeed. You simply can't program that out unless you pre-program the entire environmnent in and use lidar, like all competitors are doing. Tesla has chosen the opposite way of getting the computer to act like a human. This is of course far more complex than it sounds. But the good thing is you don't need anything but cameras. Remember the aim here is not perfection and the prevention of every single possible accident / injury / loss of life. The aim simply is to be a lot safer than human drivers.

    Pretty identical.

    the LHD model S starts at €120k on the Tesla Ireland site, and the taycan & the taycan sport tourismo both start at €104k but will be €120k with options

    €120k for a LHD model S is simply ridiculous though

    Just looked it up for you there. Taycan from €102k, Model S from €120k

    That makes the Taycan look cheap. But the Porsche has very poor performance, range and spec compared to the Tesla. If you aim to compare similarly specced and performing cars, the Tesla is far cheaper. Personally, if I had €100k to spend on a car, I would buy a base Taycan with zero options and be done with it. I wouldn't even try stretch my budget to buy a Model S or buy a faster or better specced Taycan.

    Am I mad to consider this?

    I've driven LHD cars here before, bigger. than the X plaid. Theres no real issue, I have a toll tag and rarely go through tolls anyway.

    I think this is the bargaining phase of anger denial bargaining and acceptance but I woke up this morning with that idea in my head. I was considering a taycan but when I can have an (albeit LHD) plaid X for similar money to a mid spec taycan it doesnt make sense. If I don't buy an X plaid the leading competitor in my mind isnt even electric

    Personally I think it will be down to how much you are willing to "lose" on it when you go to sell it on. It will be a very niche car to begin with and to add LHD to it you are into tiny numbers. You might even need to sell it on the continent, which wouldn't be unheard of, but messy all the same.

    And you change cars quite a bit by the sound of it, so is that short term buy worth the hassle and the money pit that it will be?


    Very hard to guess what your possible loss would be though, so only you can weigh that uncertainty against your need to scratch that itch! 😀

    Yeah, I wouldnt have the funds for the deposit (for HP/PCP) till probably mid june anyway so this isnt going to be a today decision. Just mulling it over

    that's quite a change from your previous post :) I think on the continent the same cars are cheaper as new, so prospects of cutting loses there are quite slim. I'd wait some as is not unheard of Tesla changing their mind especially after some backlash. Who knows could be some publicity stunt.

    There are alit of very upset folks atm , which is understandable. Just don't do anything as a knee jerk reaction as it is possible this will blow over and they will change again.

    I was thinking of an S too but hadn't a deposit down so not really impacted at all.

    I had a deposit down on an X plaid for about 2 years I think, very annoyed anyway. I wonder if this is to see who really wants it, or a way of canceling the cheaper deposits.

    I see 100k for a 160k plaid is not what they want!

    It probably is that alright, imagine you got a 160k car for 100k.

    Something similar will be done for the CT reservation holders who locked in a low price 2 yes ago too.

    I think one part of the equation is the UK leaving the single market so Tesla would have to get this approved on multiple small RHD markets in Europe alone. I would not be surpised if this happened more and more with new car models being launched.

    In general it's not a good place to be in a very small market of EU RHD of Ireland and Malta. The same thing is already happening with Model Y, i.e. we are not getting the Berlin built cars here unlike the rest of the EU.

    Or let the rest of the EU go full Swedish and let them swap sides, we were driving on the left long before they were LHT after all

    Just to add Cyprus to that list with Ireland and Malta... Small change in population numbers admittedly
