You can apply for flexi working once you're on the street, but there is an expectation like any job for you to try and work out things yourself in the first instance.

It's only going to be every other week that I would be looking assistance with shift, mainly night shifts but as per my mates monthly rota it shouldn't be too much of an issue hopefully. Just worry about these things lol I'm sure I'm not the only one joining in this position.

Thought I would post some interesting statistics I found re recruitment etc. The numbers have dropped significantly over the past year, so once DoJ gets more money, there will be a huge intake of candidates from this merit list I am guessing. Furthermore, the PSNI aimed to have the first batch of 2021 candidates in GV by summer 2022 (which obviously didn’t happen). This means there has been a years worth of retired officers not being replaced by anyone, bar the 43 officers that graduated GV a few weeks ago. There will be a massive intake from this recruitment campaign soon I hypothesise as I believe they couldn’t handle without it. The force also has the lowest number of officers currently in their history, so they are begging for new recruits.

You hypothesising so be clear about that. You're talking as if your hypothesis is fact.

Yes we need the numbers. And yes it'll be the 2021 campaign used.

But with the current state of public money it's more likely going to be a drip feed and not like enmass recruitment 2016-2019 with courses of 50+ every 5 weeks

Awesome, much thanks for your update. Always motivating to hear stuff like this. Hope the rest of your time at GV goes smoothly

Cheers, this is the kind of data I had been trying to find the past while. While it's impossible to forecast any real uptake in the current climate it's interesting to consider still and bear in mind.

@NeeNaw21 to be fair he did say "...once DoJ gets more money, there will be a huge intake of candidates fromt his merit list I am guessing." Anyone on here I'm assuming has some awareness that recruitment is dead-slow-stop... but it's good to keep expectations in check regardless.

Thanks for the update @mse2020, hope GV goes well for you. Keep us updated with how you are getting on and if there are any further rumour on intakes!

A friend who is in a specialist role due to retire this said they are trying to retire more officers through natural wastage and said he would think I would be at the managed stages before year end. I put this down as speculation as nobody really knows. Funding is up in the air but I am hopeful things will speed up very soon. With natural wastage and no recruitment process following behind, it will have to pick up soon. Hold tight, it won't be long lol

Well just as an FYI officially/unofficially the recruitment has frozen again. Until the funding becomes available

Whereabouts on the merit list are you? I'm 450-500

For those currently being processed, how are you getting on? Any one else’s vetting cleared yet?

Also, been having a read through all the old threads and a lot of good info there. Obviously every campaign is different regarding timelines etc but if you’re anything like me it’s a handy distraction from the wait! The Garnverville thread in particular is interesting and I’m hoping actually of some use to some on this campaign in the next few months!

Haven't heard of anyone’s vetting clearing yet but that would be good to know if people have started to hear back from it. I’ve not heard anything back from vetting yet or anything show on my Experian either

My vetting has cleared, took around 4 weeks which was much earlier than anticipated. Just medical and SMT to go now

Bumped the GV thread to top of page there - I hadn’t realised there were 16 pages of threads so lots more to read through than just this and 2020. Course a lot has changed since pre-2017 but some of it still applies I imagine.

Also fair play to you Shield lol this forum has been helping people for 15 years now at least!

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

@psnaye2023 do they contact you to tell you it has cleared or did you get in touch yourself?

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

@Narwahls They sent me an email mate listing “the result of the vetting process”

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

    Didn’t contact them at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

Thanks, far quicker than a lot of other people have gotten through

Yeah I was really surprised! The fear when you see the subject before you open it

Hopefully a sign that they’re expecting to at least have a squad ready (funding dependent) by the autumn, as if I pass the final 2 stages I’d expect to be appointable by July

Why is it the vetting stage can take so long for some people ino some peoples vetting might throw up some problems but from what I've heard any problems can set your application back well over a month. And even if your vetting perfect goes perfect it usually take like 2 months why is that? Is it just slow admin m or is there alot of info they have to check or what is it?

Nature of the beast. Everyone’s circumstances are different - for example you might not have had any criminal history to declare but might have had 5+ addresses that need checked. All takes time.

The vetting thread is quite useful, I had a browse through that before completing my pack. Also for more general questions r/PoliceUK on Reddit can be decent, it’s England-focussed but a few PSNI on there and a LOT on vetting which is all done to the CoP standards anyway bar the part 1 PSNI supplement.

Cheers bud! Also for those who don’t know vetting pass is an email so if you get an email it’s for more info or you’ve passed vetting fail is a letter in the post.

Anyone did medical yet and had a email with how they got on? Had mine today wondering when I'll hear back

  • Registered Users Posts: 197 ✭✭crazyfire999

What all happens? I thought they maybe told you on the day?

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Narwahls

How long does the whole medical take for those who have done it? Would it be a situation where you could take a half day off work or would you need a full?

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭psnaye2023

Apparently up to 1.5 hours according to the website so probably best to factor for this plus travel given everyone would be different
