Offaly v Wexford in the Leinster u20 hurling final about to start on TG4. We play the winners in the All Ireland final

Exciting game so far. The thing I noticed straight away is that the Cork and Clare teams looked much bigger than these two teams. Doesn't mean better but just noticeable to me anyway.

Offaly it is in the final for Cork. Some very nice skillful hurlers, particularly their number 15.

Screeney is a fantastic hurler. Great to see there is still a place for the slight, nippy forward at underage anyway

  • Registered Users Posts: 401 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Yeah saw him in the All Ireland Final v Hammies (Bandon) - virtually unmarkable, has an unreal strike of a ball as well. Just looking at the offaly team sheet & that All Ireland B colleges final & the School side had 4 members of last nights Offaly starting 15, very impressive...

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,599 ✭✭✭eigrod

Minors are poor here v Tipp. Really really poor. Handpassing straight to Tipp players, missing frees in front of goal, woeful shooting. Dreadful all round.

    Cork 1-4 Tipp 0-7 HT

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Just about to say the same thing. Every time we have tried a kick pass we have given the ball away or it goes out over the sideline. A few bright hopes here and there but poor overall

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,599 ✭✭✭eigrod

Yep. And Tipp aren’t much better. Ref is overweight and ambling around the pitch. A bad look all round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

I was thinking that about the ref also! 🤣 He has given yellow cards out for nothing which annoys me too

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

The ref continues to flash yellow cards everywhere. Probably will send off someone soon at this rate.

    2 goals in a minute wraps this game up 0-08 v 4-06

    Ref hasn't a clue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Coakley and Sheedy are the two bright sparks that I talked about. They got some good goals

  • Registered Users Posts: 406 ✭✭sliabh 1956

After the Kerry match i was very optimistic about this team going places after tonight i m a bit deflated

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,599 ✭✭✭eigrod

Kerry won’t be concerned about us. Full forward line caused damage when they got good ball to run at Tipp with. Other than that, that was as poor a game as one could watch. Mistake ridden. Ref was shocking - must’ve been some standard of a fitness test for him to pass it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

In fairness, the second half was much better than the first and they got good goals. It feels like they have potential but we need to be more consistent. Lot of room for improvement and we still got 5 goals. I'd rather be at least in this position rather than beaten!

like after the minor hurling, can't get too high after a good display or too low after a poor one. they are only u17s who will tend to be more inconsistent from game to game

Regardless of whether we win a senior all Ireland this year or not, the future is looking bright for Cork hurling. The character that u20 team showed to come back and beat Clare was something else really. I'd expect no less from a team managed by Ben O'Connor though. If we hopefully beat Offaly in the final then that'll be three u20 all Ireland titles in four years.

You can't get too carried away obviously, but the players are coming through that are going to hopefully bring Liam McCarthy back home. It's funny how the footballers can drive us to the depths of despair, but despite going nearly twenty years without a senior all Ireland that buzz and excitement about Cork hurling is still there.

That u20 team is playing real Cork hurling, and when we do bring Liam McCarthy back home then it'll be done by playing real Cork hurling. For our non Cork audience when i say real Cork hurling i mean, the pace, the skill, the stickwork, and the dogged toughness to go with it that all the best Cork teams always had.

I think if the seniors beat Clare in Ennis and Tipp beat Limerick, then Limerick will be out of the championship. Tipp have improved a lot this year, but have they improved enough to beat Limerick though? You'd still have to fancy Limerick really. Clare will be hard to beat in Ennis, but it's a task we're more than capable of achieving hopefully.

Cork minors in big trouble against Galway

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Cork started really well but when we were on top, we had numerous bad wides. We could have been 4 up then Galway got a goal that looked like he took a few extra steps to me. So after a good start we were a goal down then Galway got another fantastic goal and suddenly we are 8 points down.

A game that shows you have to take your chances when they come.

The 2 goals have knocked the stuffing out of us

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

great effort to close to 3 points with plenty time left

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Some terrible wides have killed us today. If we took our chances we would be ahead by a good few
