What constitues a side of the house in exempt development, Fencing query

I am looking to put up the fence, but I am trying to make sure I won't be told to lower/remove it.

In planning regulations 2001, the wording is fairly vague as to what really is considered 'a front of the house'. Can one in theory have 2m walls on the sides of the boundary (see image as an theoretical example)

Is there maybe a definition I am missing?

My understanding is the line of the front wall of the house, carried across, defines the front and side.

So in your case, based on your diagram above, fence should step down, from 2.0m to 1.2m, both sides, at point just above where you have written 'boundary per folio/2m fence'.

Agreed. Anything behind the front building line is deemed to be the side.
