If your family member was harassed out of employment then in theory they are eligible.

They will have to speak to the Jobseekers people and explain all this. Be sure to use the word 'harassment'.

Then its up to a bureaucrat to decide. I would hope that would be a 'yes'.

Do what I do and say my contract ended, they never check.

Even if you resign from a job for no reason the worst that happens is you get nothing for 9 weeks and then you can get job seekers benefit to start with for 6/9 months depending on prsi contributions

Firstly people aren't going without money because I signed on your comment is just plant wrong! Secondly I've paid more than enough tax every year to go on the dole for a week or 2 every now and again thanks.

Because of the 12 weeks mentioned above, I've only done it 3 times in 15 years, taking a 2-3 week break between new jobs, hardly the biggest criminal the social welfare has ever seen.

I do have savings, it makes no difference, I either A) Lie and say my contract ran out or B) Go to the community officer and say I need help as I cant wait the 12 weeks.

One way or the other I'm getting the same money.

Theres a budget allotted to SW every year in order to support people who cannot support themselves .

There isn’t a bottomless bucket of money which falls out of the sky.

The money comes from the PRSI that working people contribute, and from money that the state borrows which has to be paid back, with interest, eventually, by taxpayers.

SW have to decide how to divide up this money. They do their best to only give it to people who need it and are claiming it fairly.

There are people at home too sick to work getting €220 a week.

There are people at home 24/7 looking after a sick child getting not much more.

If people like you didn’t think it was ok to steal €220 every now and again from the pot of money then the Dept would be able to give these people more money. You are literally taking food out of their mouths.

If everyone decided that they could steal a couple of weeks dole every year then how would that work out?

So enjoy the money you stole from the widow with 3 kids or the man looking after his father with Alzheimer’s. I hope it keeps fine for you…

Yup all me, not the hairdressers getting paid to the hand and claiming unemployment, extra child benefit, council houses etc Not the guys and gals who refuse to work or fake illness, nope all me.

Wasnt me on reddit. I did post here during the week though. Never used reddit. But to be honest im not the only person with the same idea. Tax is just too high now. Its just not worth working anymore.

The SW office send a form to your previous employer asking them the circumstances of your leaving.

If you have paid huge amounts of PRSI and tax over the years, in my case enough to keep the guts of 10 people on the dole every month for about 20 years, then going on the dole for a for a while is more like, taking back control :), than fraud as far as I am concerned.
