As someone has already stated, site looks like a dodgy rag tag media site now where you find out “where x celeb lives now “

IPhone user here, 4 large ads on each page followed by the ad at the bottom that jumps up like we should be delighted to see it.

    interesting concept.

i sometimes find myself on the “post a funny pic” page wondering what’s so funny, then I realise I’ve been looking at an ad.

The amount of real estate that ads take up on my Android is very poor tbh.

There's no way that bottom ad needs to be that large.

so you made a change without checking what effect it had on mobile?

The percentage is almost exactly 50/50 (smart phone/tablet to desktop).

I’m done, so long, it’s been fun for the most part.

current ad situation is the last straw

On desktop currently have 7 advertisements on the page all blinking as I try to read, one ad for Power blinks really fast which is very distracting. When the ad changes the page jumps to accommodate the size of the new ad. While advertising is important to a site like boards, having readers and contributors is also as equally important. I think the site needs to better regulate the format and type of ads being displayed.

I don’t understand what you are trying to achieve with all your questions on what they agreed with a third party and how it was done. They do what they want and how they want it. They don’t owe you anything. The only thing you can do is what people said on this thread like taking an ad blocker or simply not use the site anymore.

I didn’t say otherwise. I just don’t understand what is the end goal here.

I know its terrible UI to keep having to do - but there is an X on the horrible bottom docked popup that makes them go away... for a few pages sometimes. Its hard to see as the formatting is off and you need to accurate with fingers to click it - but maybe some people are missing it - circled in red?

I saw that X, and have clicked it - it either did nothing, opened the ad, or minimised the ad only for it to pop up again immediately (not after a few minutes).

I do click x when i really want to read a post but it's back a couple of pages later. Anyway, android user here and i know Boards staff are aware and working the issue but thought this was funny. This is my full screen.

Yeah but the “desktop” cohort seem to be the ones who complain the most, and the loudest.

This happens to me too. I'd say 3/5 times it brings me to a new page for the ad.

40% of my mobile screen is now an ad.

    infuriating!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,428 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

X opens the add for me. Its so infuriating, I've gone and downloaded an add blocker and might see about the Brave browser.

  • The end goal would be to have a usable site and one that can actually profit from its adverts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,910 ✭✭✭appledrop

That's exactly what happens to me aswell, using an android phone, absolutely headwrecking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,427 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

Half the time clicking that X opens the ad. The other half it reduces the size of the ad by 50%. You have to do this on every page load. I don't believe that anybody in boards.ie actually looked at this before approving it

Pop up add at bottom of the page - tiny X on a touch screen phone.

Pops up halfway through a post. Try press X, get redirected to advert for some car I'll never buy. Total waste of everyones time.

    Give up posting

I'd love to see numbers for the traffic on the site over the last week. Most of my subbed threads and forums seem a lot quieter. I thought it was just the weekend but it's continuing...

As if losing about 30 to 40% of the userbase in the shitshow that was the move to vanilla wasn't enough.

It's almost like they're trying to kill it off...

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command”

  • I’ve now reactivated my ad blocker which is doing the trick, but by the same token the ad blocker stops some APIs from working on various sites, eg you wonder why you can’t seem to make a payment somewhere and then remember you’ve the ad blocker active. If that bottom advert wasn’t so incredibly intrusive I’d leave it be.

The adds lead to what look like scam websites, this is not a good look for the site unless of course you are ok with the scams advertised?

This little fellow keeps popping up and looking over my shoulder when I'm browsing. Even if you minimise him, he is still peeping out. I decided to see what it was all about and lo and behold its a crypto scam. Not v.cool boards

Not sure what has changed in the last few days but it's the last straw for me if this is still here by next week.

Below is my screen which required three scrolls of the mid page ad before I see any content.

If I click the X on that huge ad on the bottom, it either opens the ad or makes it about 25% of the screen.

Absolutely unusable. The fact that it has clearly been pointed out a few days ago and is only getting worse is a concern too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,271 ✭✭✭Archeron

Purely for the purpose of feedback, this is getting worse literally by the day. A few days ago on mobile i was getting the one third screen cover ads which you could minimize by hitting x.

Yesterday they reappeared every single time you went to a new page. Today they are randomly popping up every couple of minutes whether new page or not, one even popped up while i was writing this comment.

And the ads are very very dodgy with no context when you see them. I clicked one this morning out of interest, and apparently the government are deliberately preventing me from finding out how to make seven thousand dollars a day, yes A DAY, on oil exploration.

I suppose on the plus side, at least the spanish language porn anime has fecked off.

Fully agree with everyone, these ads really are the pits

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭nothing

To add to the feedback, getting very annoyed with ads on mobile too - top from the 5th, when it was a full screen ad, bottom from today when 2 ads took over most of the screen

These new ads are a pisstake.

Taking over half the screen and constantly popping up. Sort of stuff that will put users off.

I get that ye need ads but this is totally counterproductive.
