And those lads came through and set the world alight at senior intercounty level did they?

My point being it’s not enough to have the odd lad here and there who might have potential. You don’t need to be winning minors or u20s every year but you need to be bringing though quality players every year. At the moment we can’t even win a game not to mind compete to win competitions.

Now that we’re out, we may give a start to Patrick Fitzgerald / Paudie Fitzgerald against Tipp. We don’t want a bad beating so can’t experiment too much in defense but I would definitely give them two 55-60 minutes of summer hurling in Thurles.

Too little too late. Maybe Curran & Leavey might finally start. Anyway, the players have probably switched off by this point.

If Tipp win this weekend, then they're through. If not, we could be staring down the barrel at another humiliating defeat as Tipp won't be holding back in that scenario.

Is there any chance the county board might get behind and promote the football? Might be worth a spin...if Clare can do it...

you are correct, footballers deserve support and proper structures as per the hurlers..........but alas only for London enter teams we would rarely win a game..........😡

Good work being done with development football squads by deise og at u14,u15 u16 of late.patience is needed.

Jason ryan and benji whelan etc are helping out.

Obviously will take time but hopefully will improve senior football team.

Big issue is lack of football in the city.Hurling is number one which is fine but need to grow, promote football more to help the senior team with a bigger pool to pick from.

Nobody has an issue with hurling being the main code but we shouldn't accept our football team making zero progress year on year.

Really hits home seeing that and ourselves nowhere to be seen

    I'd say training is miserable

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

Would you actually think they are training…….what is the point…another bad beating is on the cards and the only positive from it could be that it might just accelerate the departure davey….😡. But how much of a back bone does the Co board have…..?

The reopening of Walsh Park for club games in July will keep the county board occupied and the elephant in the room that is Davy wont be on the radar

Let’s hope the co board show leadership (for once) and are ready to move in after the Tipp game and cut ties with Davy. It’s harsh because this isn’t Davys fault lads, this is on the co board. Davys style is what it is everyone knows this before he was appointed.

Liam Cahill gave 3 years trying to knock the defensive mindset of previous regimes out of this group. I thought the open expansive style of hurling was the right fit for these players and while Cahills tenure ended in disappointment lets not forget we had some super wins annd performances under his watch aswell. Remember the AI semi win v KK in 2020, the championship victories over Galway and Tipp in 2021 when we blew them away and then the league final victory 12 months ago. It baffles me that someone thought the right idea was to send these players back into this bastardised negative system.

if there is any bit of cop-on and foresight within the co board they are already thinking about Davys replacement, and realise the right type of person to lead these group of players forward. but maybe it’s all wishful thinking

They downed tools last year they downed tools this year . Even Wexford would have finished limerick off in that first game . No more excuses for this squad of players . While Davy was proven to be useless from the very off , of the league campaign am not having it the fragility of these players is getting a pass because of it .

youve opened up a different argument. Nowhere did I give them a free pass. I will say They outfought Limerick for long stages in that game, The reason they couldn’t finish them off is because they couldn’t puck the ball over the bar, plane and simple. Whatever steam was in the tank for the Limerick game was well and truly gone by the cork game and it’s up to everyone to draw their own conclusions on that

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

Where are you getting the July date from……passed by the other day and I’d say there is little chance of that……!

The Waterford players did not “down tools” against Limerick this year. Just because you don’t win a game you should have won, doesn’t mean you consciously did not try your best. That’s just the nature of competitive sport. The other team have a say in the matter too.

The “down tools” term gets thrown about a bit too soft at times. I don’t think they downed tools last year either. The Clare game in Ennis was the only questionable one with one team who were peaking and the other team were out of gas as their year was ending terribly. The injuries before and during the game lessened the tools available. What went on behind the scenes last year, nobody seems to know. The team selection against Clare was strange indeed. The players motivation in that day was absolutely debatable and not where it needed to be.

We can make as much excuses for these players as we like . Let’s put it another away can you really see the results being any different in the coming seasons ? Even if you began a major shake up .

Struggle to see us getting out of Munster regardless of who is in charge the next few years but with better coaching we should be more competitive in games

  • Registered Users Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Jjjjjjjjbarry

At the moment you would have to say that we will struggle next year. Hopefully we will gather a strong panel with good management and leadership. I think it’s possible for this panel to win two games next year but they will need a better game plan than this year. If there are bad eggs in the group, get rid of them and start the players who will die for the cause. With two outside managers in a row, you would assume that they have no loyalty and would not tolerate bad attitudes.

Personally, I think as a county, we’re lacking self belief and confidence. Mentally brittle, don’t handle being favourites well, don’t feel comfortable with it and follow with subconscious self destruction to get back to our baseline of being the bridesmaids, where we feel comfortable.

A team of sports psychologists should be added and also to our underage structures so the next generation come through mentally stronger.

    Tailteann Cup, Rd 2

    Fraher Field, Dungarvan

    Full time

    Waterford (Port Láirge) : 1-14(17)

    Meath (An Mhí) : 3-17(26)

Hard Luck to our Senior Footballers! The score does not reflect the great display in tonights game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭Venom69

    Absolutely gutsy brave determined performance.

Gave it everything on the field of play.dubious penalty call plus error from Waterford goalkeeper.

100% spot on,scoreline doesn't reflect the performance and closeness of the match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

football deserves a lot more effort in this county also……Clare, Tipp and limerick are way more competitive so no reason why waterford can’t be….only requires a strong will and support from the Co board to put the structures and resources in place but they can barely do it for the hurlers so hence the ‘big ball’ game will continue to play second fiddle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 488 ✭✭Ropaire

The clubs in both codes deserve what they get for putting up with two mediocre east and west boards and all the bollox that goes with it. County teams are only a symptom of what's available at club level.

    The miracle we need

  • Registered Users Posts: 349 ✭✭upthedeise16

Totally agree, unlucky to not have 2 further goals in the 1st half and could have been ahead. The penalty given to Meath was a joke but any mistake they made was punished by Meath unfortunately but they played with a definite system that wasn’t overly defensive and went out to win the game in fairness to them. Also have to say that they looked like a fit team and could give Tipp a right rattle and be great to get a win, think it’s a coin toss to see who has home advantage.

It’s not even funny how far behind every other team in Munster we really are . Seriously dark times ahead

Thankfully we are safe from any relegation despite that we could end up on 0 points while a team in Leinster who may have a win under their belt gets relegated.

The standard of competition could be argued but looking at us we could struggle in Leinster.
