OMG. What will we do if these 2 separate?? This would be a bigger impact to the world than ChatGPT. Imagine if we end up stuck with Dermot and Alison!! ☹️

Still the main news on the BBC site. Celebrity news more important for the masses despite what's going on in the world. Rumours abound about him, have the papers got dirt on him, hence the sudden departure?

That trial happened a few weeks ago and was quite public- however there was a young man in his 20s I believe who left the show crew a few years ago under uncertain circumstances- I wonder in the fullness of time will there be a bigger story here ?

I know the two have fallen out but why did he resign and not her? I’m presuming it’s public opinion not in his favour?

Always made my skin crawl good riddance.

Is there not rumour of a super injunction or similar lifting soon about his relationship with that young fella who worked on this morning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,000 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

When I type Super Inunction into the search his name comes up predictive foe some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭hayrabit

indeed : got as far as his name + added on 's' & "super injunctions" come in top five in search

never heard of a "super" injunction before - must be something reserved strictly for rich degenerates ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,287 ✭✭✭Glaceon

Ryan Giggs had one a few years ago. Effectively a gagging order to prevent the media from discussing something, or even mentioning that there's an injunction in place.

Phil is ITV's golden boy, with many shows, what now for him

I found him and Holly had got rude the past few years with guests

I heard rumours about him but did not know about super injunctions

Will anything be talked about it on Loose Women or Loose Men Fridays 😄

Think about it, when was the last time you saw Gordon The Gopher? There's a scandal there!

There are a lot of rumours circulating on Twitter today as well, I'd imagine it's all going to come out sooner rather than later. As someone pointed out after 13 years on the show, no final farewell show, no fanfare, just gone. I don't watch it myself just fascinated by all the coverage.

What did Jimmy Schofield , sorry Philip Saville. sorry Philip Schofield get up to then?

Reckon there's a major scandal he's desperately trying to keep under wraps and Holly knows all about it, hence the distancing for fear her career would be affected too.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Regional East Moderators, Regional North West Moderators Posts: 12,374 Mod ✭✭✭✭miamee

I'm less sure about their being a big scandal on the horizon now that I have read ITV are keeping him on for other projects, he's presenting the British Soap Awards shortly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭Shakyfan

Reading the comments on boards and on Facebook over the last 24 hours and I'm reminded of Jimmy Saville. Took 40+ years of him in the public eye before the world and his wife decided to come out with the "always thougt there was something dodgy about him" stuff after the event. Not comparing the 2 people but the reaction from many people is similar!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,808 ✭✭✭squonk

I don’t know though. Unless ITV are hedging tgeir bets sbd softening gge blow for now by saying he’ll continue to present other items I.e. we won’t dump him completely in case the proverbial never hits the fan but if it dies we have lined up alternate presenter choices, he seems like an ok guy. I’d disagree with a comparison to Saville. Thought he was always sorta funny and then I remember a Louis Theroux “living with Lucy” style sake where he hung it with Saville for a week or something and you could really trek the guy wasn’t in the up and up at that point but it was still later the revelations came out. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt but it’ll be interesting to see what happens this week.

I've been following a lot of the rumours about him since before he "bravely came out" PR stunt as he was about to be exposed as the young runner he met aged 12 and later got a job on the show went to the media after it went tits up and Phil got a super injunction which runs out soon. There's so many open secrets about him doing the rounds for a number of years.

Most of the staff on the show hate him and he's been protected my ITV management, you only have to see the growing list of household names who complained about him and then got kicked off the show for their effort. Their cryptic and straight out tweets/posts are showing their delight to see him get kicked off the show.

As for the simpering squealing sidekick Holly she's colluded with him over the 14 years they've worked together. They've been extremely good friends until recently even going on holidays and socialising together. She should be shown the door too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,258 ✭✭✭Be right back

Holly should be absolutely shown the door but her hubby is a tv bigwig so I can't see that happening sadly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,179 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

His latest statement is that he’s been “hung out to dry” - probably not the sort of statement a person under suspicion of something sinister would issue IMHO.

Whilst there has been some inference in The Daily Mail more than once in recent years, that there was a young man who left the show under some sort of cloud, that’s pretty much it.

So Hollys been “upset” in recent times with Phil for “not telling her about his brother” in advance of his trial- to that I’d say, I can understand why Phil may not have wished to disclose such information- and Shirley that wouldn’t have been a reason to end the friendship? It’s a very personal thing and Phil was not on trial- it was his brother, whom he disowned after- I just don’t get it- why did Holly decide to ditch him? That’s what’s driving the “theory” that there’s more to this story than currently published.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,808 ✭✭✭squonk

Thanks! I used to be much more up on what was happening behind the scenes on things and usually nosy if those open secrets would have been sobering I was aware of too but thanks for your post. It is taking from but reading how unpopular he seems to be amongst other people doing the sage tire of chatshow jobs so when you see soldering that one sided it has to come from somewhere. Definitely if Holly is enabling him then she’s as bad so definitely should go but her age and employability elsewhere as week as the hubby are saving her bacon by the sounds of it. Mind you if Phil goes down big she might catch some of that fallout herself no matter who her friends and helpers are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,458 ✭✭✭apache

Whispers here and there. Haven't heard any latest news. Nothing concrete. So Holly and Philip used to be very close? Has their friendship ended now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,630 ✭✭✭deisemum

Seeing the photos of the young runner socialising with Phil doesn't look good in light of the rumours, really shows the age difference.

An MP was a guest on the show at some stage has recently revealed she was shocked at how vile Phil was to a female co-presenter off camera.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,179 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

Maybe it’s a simple as he wasn’t nice to the people on the way up- there’s certainly a fair group of people out there in the public eye who don’t rate Phil very highly - and Morning TV is probably a dream job for some - a fair whack of money per annum for reading an auto- cue and pretending to enjoy yourself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,551 ✭✭✭Glencarraig

Reports suggest that Holly gave a "it's him or me" ultimatum to ITV bosses, result...........Phil "resigns"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,458 ✭✭✭apache

I read a few online articles. I'm a bit more up to speed now. Still all cloaked in secrecy though. I don't know why I'm so interested but I am.

Phil thought he could share anything with Holly, but he thought wrong, he knew his brother was abusing kids, as his brother confided in Phil years ago, then with his brother in court last month that piece of info came out, Phil knew, he shared with Holly, he thought Holly would be like '' all poor Phil, what can I do'' instead she was like WTF, she has kids, she ain't going to tolerate this.

Phil should have done the right thing years ago, but he kept quiet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Count Dracula

Mostly true. He is Marmite and lived as a closet homosexual for 30 years. Other closet homosexuals cannot stand that 😂

I reckon he probably has a thing for younger guys and when he came out a few years ago one of them had threatened him with the press after not getting fired or his promotion. Given he was possibly having clandestine sexual relations within the TV industry, I would imagine lots of encounters were with professionals. But someone knows this now and it most likely is compromising his future with any network.

He doesn't strike me as nonce or a dodgy sexual predator type, I would say any sex he has been involved with was highly consensual. But all it takes is some spin, on him abusing his position as a high ranking presenter and it could all metastasise into something something detrimental for the entire show.

From an article I read over the weekend, it wasn’t yesterday or a few months this trouble has been brewing- whilst conspiracy theories are always interesting when it comes to such “celebrities”, I think the reality is a bit more mundane.

Holly split from the talent firm that also had Philip as their leading light, about 3 years ago- the reason was simple- The agency apparently treated Holly as second to Philip and they prioritised Philips career over Hollys- that’s what the article claimed anyway- so Holly moved and set up her own agency and also apparently got a payout from her previous agency after some legal wrangle.

So this I believe was the start of it all and it has been festering ever since- Holly now had much more freedom and indeed confidence - and Philip was now at least an equal if not a rival.

Between that and the odd silly stories since, and individual press releases that didn’t reflect both parties positions or thoughts , it’s come down to “him or me”.

There’s likely been an unseen battle in the media over the last while especially with Holly now completely free of her old agency, she didn’t have to conform to what the agency wanted, which was effectively to always put Philip in a good light.

They probably should have called it a day a few years ago but obviously this gig is good for both the money and the ego so neither we’re prepared to let go.

Holly and Phil and their respective families were very close and used to socialise and holiday together but allegedly that changed after Holly stepped in for Ant on I'm A Celebrity and then won an award think it was a BAFTA and Phil wasn't happy that she won something without him and things between them went downhill after that.

Holly gets to take so much time off. It seems when you are paid huge salary the more time you can take off. This is why I don’t feel guilty to be still working from home and doing f*k all most days!!

I yearn for the glory days of Roland rat to come back. Him and Wee-man were such great tv characters. Then on RTÉ you had evil Podge what a legendary tv character he was.

I don't really know much about either of them.

I did get the impression that they were falling out of favour with the general public over the queing incident at the queen's funeral.

Phil already had a lot of somewhat negative opinions in the whole "coming out" fiasco.

Personally I get suspicious when people seem in absolutely fantastic moods all the time 😂 but then grumpy is my default mode 😂😂

I do find the amount of z listers coming out kicking Phil, pretty pathetic..... anything to get their names in the media.

Holly has broken down in tears on the show before during particularly tough stories involving children so my guess is that she has a very low tolerance for any misdeeds involving children. I think you are right that she and Phil didn't see eye to eye regarding his brother.

Time for Gordon the Gopher to release a tell all book about what happened in that broom cupboard.

I have to say I have always found Holly to be just as fake

Dermot and Alison done a tribute to him this morning. Holly didn't attend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭RickBlaine

It was barely a tribute. Didn't even show clips, just a few photos. Both looked like they were in a hostage video. Alison is usually very bubbly but it was very hard not to hear disdain in her voice when she said his name. You can see it here:

In fairness, they can hardly have a big tribute show for him. He didn't die, and hasn't just decided it's time to move on. He very publicly had to leave because him staying on was untenable and there was both public and private pressure on him to leave or be forced out.

They couldn't not acknowledge it, they had to address the elephant in the room. But it's obviously in all their best interests to move on as quickly as possible.

A few guests and other hosts have said Phil isn't particularly nice

Was it clean queen Kim W he had an argument with on the couch?

I think both Holly and Phil have got big headed and obnoxious the last few years and now the stories about Phil if true are sickening
