I think i saw that clermont have a few different guys who kick depending on where they are and that makes way too much sense.

    That's a great signing.

The squad is looking really good for next year, especially if the young lads keep developing at the rate they have been.

  • Registered Users Posts: 330 ✭✭ShineyShiney

I'm really happy with that squad. It'll take some serious man management to keep everyone happy.

Thanks to the players leaving. Onwards and upwards.

I think that we have a squad next season that can be seriously competitive, even against the best sides. Very good competition in every position so I'm very positive for a really good season ahead 💪

Delighted to see Ultan Dillane become a European Champion with La Rochelle. Came off bench with fifteen to go, had one big carry.

Maintains his 100% unbeaten record vs leinster in finals also.

Gutted for leinster but fun observation

Just the academy ins/outs TBC now. Absolutely stacked squad, but overloaded in the back 3 IMO. Would have liked to see debuts for Josh O'Connor, Chay Mullins, or even Hugh Gavin, but that seems unlikely unless we have a serious injury crisis.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

This is the best connacht squad in years imo and room to grow as well. Alot of good young players.

Edit: conor fitzgerald is gone? I’d wonder if munster or ulster are interested.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,386 ✭✭✭macslash

Tbf we might not see Mack until close to Xmas, and God knows with Cordero too. Competition for places will be unbelievable

Yeah, mad to think the URC doesn't start again until October 21/22. Very long pre season for the players. Heard they are due back early July and it'll still be over 3 months before the opening URC game. Those gone to the World Cup probably won't play again until close to Christmas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,981 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Conor Fitz is underrated imho, would seem like a very logical pickup for Munster on a short term deal at the very least. Ulster are probably happy with Flannery.

Wouldn't be my go-to-company for sports kit, but some on the bits they've had for the Italian national team in the last few years have been really nice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

That's a shame. BLK made excellent training/leisurewear during their time supplying Connacht. Macron make very cheap looking gear from what I've seen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,095 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Heard that a while back. BLK gear is very good quality for most part but there were always issues with distribution/getting gear on time

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

It was an unusual year at 10 Zeugnis. I think Tom, as you said had nothing more than cameos.I think Hawkshaw got his chance and failed miserably. I think Forde was incredible at inside center so he is a center rather than a 10. So did Tom do ok? Well the powers that be would suggest he did, he just did not get the time to prove it. Reminds me of Marmion with Ireland. But he was picked as first choice replacement option at 10 while Hawkshaw and Forde were discarded. And rightful so Zeugnis. Tom was the best secondary option and potentially the best option but he really didn't get a swing at it

Carty needs to perform next season, if not JJ Hanrahan should take over the 10 position.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,580 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I think JJ will pass him. Carty can't do the basics.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

I suspect next year will indeed be a pivotal year for Jack. If I have this correct I believe Connacht kicked away possession more than any team in the URC. This really has to change. Certainly against the Stormers it provided the opposing team with far too many attacking opportunities and Connacht really paid for this heavily.

My own opinion is that Jacks kicking stats aren't good enough, his game management is poor at best and his tactical decision making is questionable. This is not to say that Jack has not done some good stuff. But it's only from time to time. So I believe JJ is a very good purchase. In fact I'm amazed that we had the finances to retain and add to our squad like we have done this year. Have we dug into the finances provided for the new stadium. I think many supporters are wondering how we have managed to buy so well this season. I'm not objecting but it's strange how we have managed to build a fantastic squad with very little money

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,095 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

But what evidence is there that JJ is consistent enough to be better than Carty? Connacht have bought well but how many are v expensive?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Just before the finale of the URC, have to say huge respect to the Munster fans who have made their way to SA. In no way can I see anything other than a Stormers win, but Munster fans are a credit to their province. I hope I am wrong because I think Munster deserve a break

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,095 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Why post that in this thread?

Post it in Munster thread or the game thread?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

I think it's ok to post in your own provincial thread wishing another province the best. But your opinion is important to me also Lost Ormond

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

A lot of posters see the provincial threads as that provinces place to post about anything rugby related and talk about it among themselves. Its a

    weird thing.

I remember being told to **** off to a Leinster thread and talk about Musnter there as I didn't get to criticise them in any way in a Munster thread.

I suspect that some of the leavers (Delahunt and Marmion) were on decent salaries.

I expect the new shirt deal is decent money. European qualification always provides a few extra coins. I felt that Connacht's attendance was up a bit this season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Am delighted for Munster. And did Munster just kick possession away. Not a bit of it. Liked Crowley lots. Darn good player

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,460 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I agree, I think JJ is a better player.

I'd like us to get two to three years out of him, young West should be ready by then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

I kind of think Connacht are set up well to kick away long.

Carty is a great kicker out of hand. Your back row is good over the ball. You have backs who can break games open in transition. if you kick it out, you have some good counter jumpers and one excellent one in Murray.

Seems like a good strategy that suits the talent.

I would encourage anyone who believes Jack kicks too much to watch this video: https://youtu.be/1mHrT62VzM0

Better understanding what he is trying to do has changed my perspective on his performances a lot. I think it's very hard for a team to overperform as we have if the 10, who plays 80 minutes most weeks, is not up to standard. It's very easy to point to errors (of which I thought he made relatively few on average throughout the season) but I don't see much praise for his kicking game which consistently puts us in the right positions. He also takes on more responsibility than most outhalves as we frequently exit off 10 rather than 9.
