Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looks like TII want to proceed with a programme of bypasses on national secondary routes.

A number of these are in early planning:

    Foxford (N58)

    Bantry (N71)

    Bandon (N71)

    Ballinrobe (N84)

    Milltown (N70)

There are other towns where there are repeated calls for bypasses that may now be listened to:

    Mountmellick (N80), Killorglin (N70), Tullow (N80)

These are defacto offline realignments of 3-5km, something we've had no trouble developing in recent years on the national secondary network. They'll be cheap on a per km basis so should be quite easy to deliver.

It'll be interesting to see which other towns make it onto the list.

Hopefully Birr on the N52/N62. Maybe bypassing Riverstown aswell to cut off that bad bit of the N52. Might be harder to justify a Birr bypass of that scale when compared to a lot of other secondaries.

And sure while I’m at it an N52 bypass of Borrisokane. Not for any particular traffic reason but it would be a short section to cut the corner and remove another very very bad section of road on the Birr side.

Castlemartyr & Killeagh - could they do them as one project?

Claregalway perhaps? A couple of the towns above need to be bypassed alright but they're on national primaries :)

Also, maybe Portlaoise on the N80? Blessington on the N81, and any town on the N71!

Charleville is on a national primary route, unless perhaps you are suggesting that the R515 linking the N21, N20 and N24 should be redesignated a national secondary?

This is in planning at the minute, they're basically deciding whether what level of intervention is required from a motorway down to mickey mouse relief roads.

Completely forgot Claregalway, and it is indeed now in planning.

Blessington is long term to be bypassed by a new offline N81 from Tallaght all the way to Holywood Cross, but I presume that's a no no in the eyes of the bike salesman.

Re the N71. Bandon's half baked bypass has an extension to the west in planning, Bantry now has a bypass in planning. Inishannon has dual carriageway levels of traffic and there's no plans for Clonakilty. Skibbereen was thankfully bypassed in 2001.

Offaly CoCo two weeks ago issued a tender for

I believe this is to run from N52/N62 Roundabout to the R440. The next phase would then have to run north to the N52, 2km or so.

Yea seen that. If they eventually do the link down to the Tullamore N52 near LIDL it’ll meet the planned road across to the Banagher R439 which going ahead. When the bit from the Tesco roundabout to the Kinnitty road goes ahead is anyone’s guess never mind the bit from there to LIDL. But at least it’s been looked at I suppose.

The tender I linked to is for consultants for "Design, Tender and Award" so it is being more than looked at, this isn't just a feasibility study.
