I think the VW Golf is one of the most overrated cars ever made. There has been and never was anything brilliant or special about it.

You want something Iconic the Renault 5 is Iconic the Citroen DS is Iconic the Renault 4 is Iconic the Citroen 2CV is Iconic the Renault Scenic is Iconic and the MK 1 Ford Focus is an Icon.

The Toyota RAV4 is Iconic for starting the SUV trend even do KIA was first with the Sportage before Toyota much like how Alfa Romeo had a modern hatchback much in the shape of the Golf before the Golf so it should be the Alfa that gets that Iconic award.

A Golf is just a boring box on wheels for people with no imagination.

The early Golf's were a fun car to drive.

The Jag XJS has always floated my boat,or the Merc SLK I think it is,JR Ewing's model.

The Renault Scenic was the first do and the Original as well as the best when Renault really were on form.

Ye iconically boring.

Small family car that was cheap to run, fun to drive and was driven by everyone from first time drivers to pensioners.

Was also the base for one of the best rally cars of it's era.

Special mention to the Cortina for pretty much the same reasons.

Saw a cortina on the road a while ago, couldn't believe how small it looked against modern day traffic. Father had one in the 80s as did so many others.

The mulitpla is definitely iconic. People will still want to see one decades from now because of it's funky design. Iconic is the word, not cool or fast etc.

Iconic indeed! Equally iconic was Michelle Mouton, who helped make the car famous. The documentary Queen of Speed tells her story - it's on youtube and well worth a watch. Apparently it wasn't the easiest car to drive.

I think I have a thing for 80's cars, sleek understated design never goes out of style.

Seems iconic is also determined by the era you were born into. Most of the iconic cars to me would be 80s/90s. While I get the whole super/hyper car thing, I never considered them iconic because they were unattainable. Iconic to me would be something most people could see them in a version of. So, to me, the main iconic cars are:

6th gen Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

The precursor to the amazing Lancer Evo series, and a car I will someday hopefully own. Getting very rare. Immortal shape. I had an 8th gen Galant, and pined for the VR-4 version but finances didn't allow me. I will have a collection of Galants if I win the lotto. And a Starion.

The Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R

While not the first Skyline or GT-R, it was the first for me and opened my eyes to the rest in the family, specifically the 3rd and 4th gen, sexy yokes. And of course the R33 and R34 were a teenage boys wet dream during those early Fast and Furious days.

Was gonna do a Civic one too, but shur no one needs reminding of that icon. Regardless of if you liked them or not, they are considered an icon within the driving community as far as I'm aware, and even going for stupid money, especially in the 'Mericas.

I've never heard a MK3 Escort described as either sleek or understated.

Didn't live up to either of it's predecessors and was eventually replaced by the Focus.

So, it was so bad it killed the name.
