@AMKC A customs clearance agent does all the paperwork for you. We used a firm called Easy Customs from Letterkenny when we were moving our stuff over here and they were great to deal with and they didn't charge much either.

Why would that make a difference? You still need a customs agent for the paper work, the penalty for late registration is part of the paper work.

What did you import? Love the Japanese stuff, would love to see a picture of it.

Is that thing type approved for use on the public road in the EU?

Have you looked into insurance? Trikes and quads are in a gray area with licences and insurance in Ireland, you need a bike licence but car insurance and insurance is hard to get even for officially imported quads. A self-imported trike from China is going to be a nightmare to get insured!

Revenue will text you to say your VRT quote is ready, you phone them to find out what the amount is, and then pop back to the NCT centre to pay it and get your reg number. (or you can skip the phone call bit and arrive without knowing what it will cost you if you like surprises!)

Not sure on that to be honest - should be no reason why you can't present it at any VRT desk, but you never know. Whoever you speak to when you phone for the quote will know for definite.

Normally you get a coc for new vehicles imported from outside the EU by having an IVA test done through the NSAI.

Trikes are different and as far as I can remember you need to go to a SQI and have the vehicle tested and certified.

You should contact an SQI for advice.

Who cleared the trike through customs for you and paid your duty and vat ect? That's who should be giving you your sad document.

I've imported a lot of different things aside from cars over the years, and there's always a sad document to be had with origin/arrival ect, whoever cleared the trike with customs had to fill in the information into revenues system, without it you cant vrt anything as they cant determine its arrival or what has been paid.

By any chance did you purchase it DDP (delivery duty paid) ie vat and duty prepaid?

So ACA internatonal organised the customs clearance, and you paid your Vat and duty via them? Have you specifically requested a copy of the SAD document of the clearance from them? I can't see how they don't want to know anything about providing your receipt for payment to them
