Switching from Vodafone Fibre Broadband to another supplier

Currently with Vodafone on an old 150Mb Fibre Broadband & Talk Unlimited Eir plan and paying €70 per month.

Would stay with them if they offered a good reduction - has anyone ever tried this or do any of the suppliers do retention deals?

Bonkers.ie shows that I have a choice from the following to switch to: eir, Sky, Pure Telecom, ruralwifi and ifa telecom.

Anyone have experience of any those suppliers?

1/. Find the best deal.

2/. Call your existing provider and ask for retentions.

3/. Negotiate.

Ring them up and tell them that you'd like to renew but only at X amount that you can get with so and so.

I do it every year with eir. This year I managed to save €10 on what I was paying last year

Why do you say... "would stay with them"

Dont be loyal to any company, other companies can detect that, you'll end up paying more for everything

Everyone (even your barber, plumber, hoes, etc ) will charge you more if they hear you with that sort of attitude

I am similar to you. Simply Broadband & Talk PSTN with Vodafone. It's 90mb line with free Ireland landline/mobile calls and free UK landline calls.

12 months ago made a deal with them. 40 euro per month then 55 after the 12 months contract. Just got a bill for 68.50. Bill looks a mess cant make head nor tail of the discounts/extras theyve put in it.

Digiweb have this for 35 euro per month for 12 months then 50 euro after:

Would like to know just in case I have to move. Their extras look good for the price.

Going to ring Vodafone later today to see if they will come down to 35 euro.

Im not sure they will as they took some convincing last year.

they only give it for 35 per month for first 6 months of contract then it goes to 60 so works out more than vodafone as vodafone give free month plus extra stuff like google speaker on one big switch.

disregard i thought it was the fiber deal you were looking at.

Update. Rang Vodafone. They offered me 50 euro per month when I asked for a better deal.

I said I had a better offer of 35 so they need to do better. They asked for name of better offer provider 😅. So I told them digifone.

They renewed my package for 39 euro per (includes an addon for free uk landline calls which I need but can be removed to bring it down to 35).

1 thing I did notice during the reading of the terms and conditions was the CPI + 3% is in there now so next year might be different.

Anyway happy with 39 for 12 months. 234 euro saving.

I'm in the same situation every year at renewal time where you have to ring up and debate with someone over the phone about the price. Has anyone actually left Vodafone and went to a different provider because they would not reduce the price? Just wondering what is involved. I was very close to doing it this year as they initially wanted €50 for 500mb broadband then €45. I eventually got it for €40 but I know they would offer it for €35 for a new customer.

I left them after they would upgrade me to ftth for decent price. Went with pure and I cycle annually between pure and sky. You wouldn't notice any downtime, don't even change the router.

VF did ring me with a "please cancel the move" but too little, too late

I got a fritzbox from pure who allow you to keep it. Sky worked on it so I never opened the sky one. And pure sent me another for second contract so I use it for mesh

They seem to be the only ones who allow you to keep the equipment. The sky box was never even opened.

I should note that i changed from FTTC to FTTH at the time so i kept my vodafone FTTC going until FTTH was installed to ensure continuity for the sake of a few quid and glad I did, FTTH needed an engineer install.

One word of warning: I have eir ftth available along with SIRO and they could set up you with the other provider without you realising which is another set of installed wires/boxes.

I got fibre installed last year when I signed up to Pure and then switched to sky this year so I’ll be doing to same as you I think and rotating between the two each year.

From a logistical point of view what is involved? How much notice do you need to give for cancellation? Is there a crossover period where you will be without a service?

Notice period is whatever is in your contract but once you are out of contract you can leave without notice. There will be no downtime. My Pure Telecom router actually showed my ISP as Sky before I received the Sky router. As TheDriver mentioned I could have actually kept using the same router with no need to change anything.

Pure is a good one to get, and as said, let you keep the modems. You can also pick up 2nd hand ones to add to your network.
