Hey guys, unfortunately second time I've had to post on this thread, previous time a road bike of mine was stolen in Ashtown, this time its my mountain bike. It is a Trek 4300 and its a good few years old but still looked pretty well. Stolen outside in Blancherstown SC by Mr Price. I'd it locked and was gone for 10 minutes but they'd the lock cut when I got back.

Has a bit of sentimental value to me cause I bought it as a present for myself when I started working. If anyone in the area notices something like it please give me a shout.

    Thanks

    SM

My bike was stolen today on Dorset Street between approx 1.15pm and 1.35pm when I was at an appointment. It is a white Free Spirit bike with a secure basket. No serial number unfortunately. It was locked (and double check locked given the area!). Not of particularly high value but would like it back all the same! If anyone happens to come across it on the websites/ roads of Dublin, please let me know.

The bike attached was left on our street today and has been brought to Irishtown garda station if the owner is looking for it

Silly me didn't have a cable on front wheel when I went into IKEA today, some score still my front , now near impossible to replace campag vento wheel plus brand new tyre.

Lesson learned. Must carry cable and 2 locks as we can't have nice things. If it was properly locked they'd have probably smashed it up

balls; you mighthave thought there'd be enough foot traffic through there to deter thieves. we've locked the bikes outside decathlon a couple of times, but at least the bike rack is right beside the main door there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,865 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

I was actually a bit apprehensive as I've always felt the bike stands were too far from the doors and foot traffic. Should've taken wheel with me .

Went to Garda station where I waited and then gave up as there was noone bothering to even show a face.

Went back and gave details. At least if I see it up for sale I have that. It had a very uncommon tyre on it too.

    Jesus that is desperate.

Wonder if they knew what the wheel was or if they would have robbed a bog standard.

    Either way.....cat

That's awful. Itmay have been taken as a prank/mischief/boredom thing and will be thrown away when the individual or group becomes bored or find something else to wreck for entertainment. Some low life's get off on things like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,865 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

Ah yeah, just opportunism. The IKEA car park gets targeted anyway. Vans broken into for tools and such.

I've got spare wheels, but typically it's the bike I was a bit choosy with for everything to match

    Hey All.

My kids bike was stolen from a school in Killester last Wednesday.

The police are currently looking through footage but if anyone sees it in the meantimes I would love to get my hands on the bike ;)

it was only 2 weeks old and is a 26 Inch Black and purple Verve Trailblaster from Smyths.

    All help welcome.

Fair play to them because I know another prominent local bike store wasnt able to give me the serial number for a bike I had bought from them three weeks previously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,733 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

Thats really cheap to rob a kids bike from a school....

    Hi all

Coyote connect folding bike stolen from Princes St North beside GPO sometime between 1453 (photo) and about 1610 on Tuesday 4th October 2022.

Reported to Gardai on scene about 1620 & have frame number if seen anywhere (or recovered).

This model can be electric but I bought it a year ago on Adverts & been using it since as 6-speed pedal bike.

what scumbag would do that. steal a bike that is clearly used to transport kids

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,998 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

What scumbag would pedal off on 2 grand left unattended in Stephens Green/Grafton St? All of them? I feel sorry for the guy but come on, town is a lost cause since Covid, you cant be leaving Ebikes lying around like that. I had an ancient Raleigh Amazon I bought for €20 on Adverts years ago for leaving locked in Dublin and even that got nicked, we dont really have a police force in this country anymore or one that gives a sh1t anyway and the scum know it.

It's not like he left it unlocked,

Your mention of a cheap bike simply isn't the answer, there's no point in having a ebike or cargobike if you don't use it, its money down the drain.

it's going to be harder to trace stolen bikes now since adverts won't let you see a user's sold/withdrawn items. i only noticed this yesterday.

I had three bikes stolen over christmas - What sites should I check to see if they appear for sale?

I have been checking adverts / Donedeal and facebook.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 50,497 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

    they're the three main ones.

stick a pic of them up here, if you have some.

It is a Giant Toughroad SLR2 and two Kids Orbea Dirt MX24's.

I'm not on Twitter but wonder was this retrieved and returned, the few comments don't indicate so. Saw a very similar bike on the quays yesterday evening at 18:00 that turned left from Corn Exchange Place onto the quays and continued on the south quays until at least James Joyce bridge.

Single cyclist who was stopped at lights at O'Connell Bridge who I was going to ask if he had his bike stolen and returned but I couldn't quite remember the above picture and he had earpods in also making conversation difficult. Bike last night just had one single blue child seat and I don't remember the timber steps but they're easily removed. Pretty distinctive bike.

Had a near miss outside cineworld on Parnell street with my Kona mtb, the scroats nearly got through my Abus granite X plus lock with a power tool but were chased away by a Brazilian deliverroo guy, fair play to him, I was mm's away from getting it stolen.

That's a lucky escape alright. Did you get any CCTV? Be interesting to see how long it took to get that far. That lock is about €90, right?

  • Registered Users Posts: 84 ✭✭whomadewho

No, I didn't think to look for CCTV, I should have really, I might give cineworld a call and see if they have it. Yeah the lock is 90e.

Had a bike stolen outside Cineworld. It was locked to the bike rack.

Called Cineworld ask if they had CCTV pointed in that direction.

The person I spoke to was absolutely useless.....completely non sympathetic.

No CCTV and was no help at all.

It seemed to me that the number was picked by someone outside Ireland....a callcentre in Eastern Europe......don't think she even knew where the cinema was.

I even asked if bikes had ever been stolen from there before......she said she never came across it.

FFS....it's Dublin and bikes are robbed all the time.

    After hanging up.....I was furious.

I reported it to AGS but nothing ever came from it.

The bike was about 12 years old a piece if crap anyway. ...probably not worth €50.

I've got a chain version of that Abus, and recently saw a pic of what thieves did to one in London. And that was after getting into the metal bike store.

I often carry a second U lock myself, but I know it'll only buy some extra time.

I'd never lock a bike around Cineworld myself. It's just a black hole for bikes as there's thieves everywhere around there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

I've been led to believe by a local businessman that there is a bicycle shop VERY close by that didn't give a sh1t where the bikes that it bought came from. I personally saw the Brazilian deliveroo guys stopping an intrepid "cyclist" from moving on as the bike he was cycling was one of theirs - Gardai were called, and our cyclist disappeared into the ether.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Cineworld has always been a target for bike thieves. You had better luck if you went in front of the outback when security were there when I was younger. They were blatant then, can't imagine it's improved.

    Abandoned bike... Anyone missing it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,245 ✭✭✭check_six

What really grates is that it is likely the same set of no-good-niks who rob all the bikes in that area. It's just a pastime to these lads and nothing can or will be done to curtail them, even though you'd be sure that the guards know the exact individuals involved.

Consider this level of crime-solving enthusiasm next time you report a bike stolen...

Garda appeal as giant ice-cream stolen from outside shop: 'Somebody has seen this cone' (msn.com)

Don't suppose the shop owner was told "just fill in this form and if we hear anything we'll let you know, but I wouldn't be hopeful"?

The article that shows up under the one you linked.

No, it worked! I just mean it's ironic that the next article that showed up underneath the ice cream one is about cycling destroying communities.

To be fair, when the gardai are investing so much time into a theft such as this, surely they woiuldn't have time to be out looking for something as trivial as a bicycle!

Gardai have scanned hundreds of CCTV images in a bid to track down the culprits

It reminds me of the whistle theft in Father Ted
