They just want some stupid PR about it I'd say.

Red trek FX3 disc hybrid bike stolen from bike stand on molesworth street (at junction with Dawson street) today. Kryptonite lock obviously was no match for the thieves. Reported to Pearse street Garda. No original photo but it’s fairly new so looks quite close to the attached photo with mudguards and baby seat harness/socket on upright of frame. Please keep an eye out.

did they cut the lock off, or was it just gone lock and all? angle-grinder job to remove a Kryptonite.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 chipdunne

Lock gone too. Went looking for cctv in the area today but no cameras focussed on that bike stand unfortunately. So no idea how they did it. That area is busy all day, particularly this time of year. Would be hard to see someone not picking up on an angle grinder being used. New shiny bike. Should have known better that one lock wouldn’t be enough.

Kryptonite kryptoflex lock by the way. Not a U-lock.

They can be cut through fairly easily unfortunately. What type of lock was used to secure the loops? Bike shops should really be advising people on how to lock bikes properly.

Just passed two gardai arresting a young scrote on Mount Anville Rd and seizing what looked to be a very new bright red bike.

Just in case anyone on here had something matching that description stolen this afternoon in that area

As @Citizen Six said, not one of kryptonites better locks, not the worst but more appropriate as a second lock rather than a primary. A dremel would get through it without much hassle, a few minutes tops. A lump hammer to the lock section or a decent bolt cutters also has a decent chance. Presuming its the combination lock though, it is quite pickable with a bit of practice.

I have a blue bmx I'm reasonably sure was stolen from the southside. Looks like it's seen slightly better days so may be from a while ago. Pm me with details of your missing bike and we can see if it's a match.

This bicycle was stolen from outside our apartment yesterday it was chained to a bicycle rack and had additional locks around the wheel. The person who stole it perhaps was waiting for me to leave to go to work, their face was hidden and they knew where the cameras are. If anybody sees this online, please let me know, I don't have facebook for marketplace but I have kept an eye on donedeal and adverts. I have also reported it to the Gardai.

It is a Bergamont Horizon 6 Amsterdam Hybrid Bike – Blue, id had it for about 9 months.

Can you share more about this. What kind of locks did u use? How did the thief get them off...any photos? I'm told that the DCC will finally provide a bike bunker slot to me shortly. I'm wondering to myself if I should risk leaving the battery (external conversion type) on it overnight.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

I wouldn't leave a battery on a bike overnight as it adds to the value. Some thieves are stupiid but many are not. If they see a bike without a battery, they are less likely to go for it, although if they already are inside the bike bunker they may take it anyway.

I had two bikes outside the front door of the apartment under a balcony (we are on the bottom floor), one was an e-bike without battery, this I use for commuting to work, the other I use on my days off (this is the one above that was stolen). The bikes were covered under rain covers and hidden from view behind planting and on the ground I had installed a bike rack. The bicycle rack was bolted to the ground (the type you can buy in Decathlon), both wheels were locked to the frame using https://www.decathlon.ie/bike-locks/145313-184594-920-bike-d-lock-25cm.html#/demodelsize-235no_size/demodelcolor-8331481 and then I had a chain and padlock going from the bike stand through the back wheel and frame. It seems they must have cut the padlock and chain, then carried the bike away as they took the bike cover also. Our neighbours camera caught one guy dressed in dark colours running away with the bike over his head. Our camera could only catch the bike being lifted away from the area out side the door. I moved here in 2019 and the bikes had been outside with no trouble until the other night.

    Anyone missing this old beater?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,704 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Stolen from my back garden in Dublin 8 two weeks ago.

Reported to gardai, had serial number and eircode stamped on the frame, but no word of it.

Nothing else touched or disturbed so I'm assuming they got over the 10ft high wall specifically for the bike.

Stolen from Camden St. last night 7pm. Has silver full length SKS mudguards. A guy was noticed acting suspiciously around it and the Gardai were called. they arrived less than 10 minutes later. Unfortunately bike was gone before they arrived! Bike is only 6 months old!

No my own stupidity! using a weak lock(s) I naively thought having two crappy locks while locked outside a premises with CCTV while sitting within sight of it would deter any would be thief. A very Expensive lesson learned!!

    AW!!!! Bugger

You could see the theft happening?

No. I didn’t see it. A girl did notice a guy acting suspiciously and called the Gardai. They arrived within 10minutes but the bike was gone. The theft was captured on CCTV. The Gardai viewed the footage, not me.

Canyon Ultimate was stolen from my locked garage overnight. The muppets also took the chargers for 2 e-bikes , but left the e-bikes themselves behind, and also left a hybrid Merida that was closer to the door than the Canyon which was nestled away in the back.

Reported it to the Gardai this morning, the Garda was fantastic. Not holding out much hope though.

that's a pisser. they forced the door?

The key to the garage door is a tiny little thing, the mechanism is broken now so it looks like they broke it with a screwdriver.

A neighbour told me that some of our "cultural cousins" were parked up on the road last week, looking for scrap metal and acting suspiciously.

I'm amazed they left the e-bikes though.
