So glad I found this thread!

Currently on the panel for the Clerical Officer 2022 competition, having passed the interview on March 24th last.

Going to apply for this campaign also.

I have a question - Currently working as a HSE Clerical Officer as an agency temp. My temp contact here is due to provisionally end on the 28th of this month.

On my application for this campaign in the experience section, should I state this employment dates as e.g. Jan. 2023 to present ( correct as is at the time of applying)?

    Advice?

Will there be an equivalent eo panel? Didn't realise co was annual

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 877 ✭✭✭crinkley

I would put to present it’s not a lie and you don’t know where you may be come interview you can fill in any gaps then if asked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Kurokishi

Definitely "To present". For all you know the contract could be extended!

Current EO panel expires June 2024, so won't imagine there'll be much activity for another 12 months or so.

My place has never been reached on the CO panel in my home county and while working as a TCO I've been told to apply to bigger counties with a higher turnover despite them being much further away.

How do people pick their location choices? Home county and next county? Anyone consider a lengthy commute with a better chance of getting placed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 877 ✭✭✭crinkley

I suppose it really depends on your circumstances. Are you driving or relying on public transport, what departments are in nearby counties. You can see from the 2022 thread the counties that take a lot of staff by people staring what their oom was. You can take another county and apply straight away for a transfer but you have to serve two years first

Does anyone know if you are already a permanent clerical officer in a dept can you still apply for this?

My partner has been trying to get out of his dept for a while. He's on the transfer lists but nowhere close to being placed yet

They can - you can always apply for open competition if you meet the requirements.

Remote working is your key into this. If you can manage to travel to the office for 1/2 days per week. Then see what counties may be in your reach then.

Get out a Google maps and locate the main offices and in what town etc. You'd be surprised what could be an hour from your door step.

Thanks for this, I didn't factor in the possibility of remote work 👍

Can you carry service years from HSE over to civil service? Also, is agency work in public service counted when being made permanent within civil service?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Mutt Love

Hi Kirby, thanks so much for the info!

Would you know if he can carry over his service if he starts as a CO through the open comp? He's currently on point 3 of the CO scale at the moment.

This is my 1st year applying for this. With the self assessment tests. Are they similar to the real tests as in, there will be a section on verbal, numerical, checking and categorising.

    thanks, M

    @Mutt Love

Yes, it should count towards increments etc. However, depending on how the hire goes through, it may not be automatic - it may be a good idea to check this with the hiring HR to make sure they take the previous service into account from the off.

Does anyone know when it opens for Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 877 ✭✭✭crinkley

I see the courts service are advertising for clerical officers in a few select locations. Does this not come under the civil service?

@ Kirbi do you know who we ask this question to? Would it have to be the specific job HR? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 198 ✭✭Kirbi

Yes, the HR in the new organisation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭2021_AP

Sometimes areas like revenue and courts run their own comps so they can ensure the people they employ have a specific skill set they would like as opposed to taking a chance on the generalist panels

My I ask what does the interview entail? Just finishing up a course and wondering if I'm suitable for this role? Thanks

I applied for the NSSO CO. Does anyone know what they’re like to work for? Had never heard of them before. Thanks 👍

    Hi

can anyone explain the transfer of service and increments for those who have prior public service or where you can go for advice? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭busy_mom

As far as I know, but correct me, the Verification of Service form can be completed from each HR section of the Department that you worked in and your length of service will be applied to the relevant increment that you will start at. This will be requested at the screening stage.

Was that confirmed or just going by the information booklet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,596 ✭✭✭hairyslug

Got a notification just now from public jobs to say we will be getting a link on Monday, open till 3pm Thursday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 SineadLB

I've been a TCO now for 3 years, I'm applying for this campaign however I am hoping to be moving to Dublin next year. I didn't want to apply for the dublin panel yet as I can't afford to be travelling up and down just yet.

If I get permanent CO, I understand its usually 2 years before applying for mobility but since I've served 3 (so far) as a TCO am I able to apply for mobility?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭CW2022

Any links for practice tests? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Spilly123

    Two questions.

    1. Does everyone who completed the application get the link for Monday or is it just a select number?
    2. Are the assessments the verbal interpretation, numerical interpretation etc ones?

Yes I also recieved the same notification.

I presume we get a message on our Public Jobs message board, informing us when the questionnaire has gone live on Monday?

    @hairyslug thanks!

You can apply for mobility the day you start but won't be able to move for 2 years. Just get your name in the queue, some areas move at a snails pace just to be aware.

What's the chance that they'll hire a recent graduate? :) (obviously if I can do well enough on the OOM) Jobsearching has been a bit of a nightmare...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭pygmaliondreams

If you interview well and do good on the assessment too ofc, you will get the job especially if you're in Dublin it might as well be a guarantee.

I didn't go to university and I got in, meeting the competencies matters most but having your degree will definitely help with progression.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Spilly123

In the familiarisation material booklet it says they suggest not to use a phone for the assessment but can you do so anyway? And is there any way they can tell you used a phone and if so would it hurt your chances of being called for an interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭apkmbarry

Very high! I know someone who went for the higher role as a recent graduate and did better than me! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭apkmbarry

Do not use a phone for the assessments, if anything happens that would be a nightmare and you only get one chance. You need a webcam on you anyway to monitor you doing them solo, so you'd need something external to your phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Spilly123

Hmm ok, it’s just that when practicing the assessments I’m much quicker when using the phone as you just have to tap the answer with your thumb instead of dragging a cursor on a laptop. Do you definitely need a webcam? Didn’t see it mentioned and is a Chromebook ok?
