Any idea when these ae available for delivery in the new year? Anyone have one ordered?

Got a spin in a 1.5 diesel allure model the other evening it was a lovely motor. couple of pictures attached quality isn't great it was getting dark.
Sales man was with someone else when I got back and I was under some time pressure so couldn't wait for him. Must call again next week.

Was the demo car a manual or automatic, & what garage was it in?

JJ burkes ballinrobe, GT 2L Auto.

Nice car, nice drive, but would definitely say head room an issue with sunroof in front and back.

Will be holding off for the sw version, and with the price possible until my next 3/4 year cycle.

That's interesting that it was a manual as a demo, but not surprising! We here do like our manuals!!! I was thinking Peugeot would try to push the automatic a little more to show people what they are like and the fact that the 508 range is dominated by the automatic box.

Kind of expected it to be an auto Gene as the range is heavily auto biased. Is the manual only available on the 1.5 diesel. All others are auto I understand. I would have liked to get a spin with the auto box to be honest to see how it was with the 1.5.

The manual was ok a little clunky maybe but I am driving a mazda 6 which to be fair has a lovely slick manual in it. I'd say the 508 gear change is no where near as slick as the 6 but nothing wrong with it really, coming from other cars it may not be noticeable at all.

The 508 is a fantastic car and the hatch is what people want. Mazda should do the same with the next 6 (assuming there is one and not an suv!). Pity the 508 prices are a little on the saucy side

Yeah, I would've expected the few demos that are here to be all automatics, but Peugeot Ireland (Gowan) are probably thinking the big sales will be in manual boxes. In fact my guess is the 1.5 diesel with manual box in both Active and Allure will be the big sellers and a few GT-Lines in both 1.5 diesel manual and maybe 2L diesel automatics too. I wonder will there be much petrol cars sold here.

Is your Mazda 6 got the 2.2L diesel with 150ps? So the 508 was probably a little under powered from your liking?;)

People want jeeps, and a minority want a premium saloon (or sometimes an estate).

A big mass market hatch like the 508 might sell 50 units a year, mainly to people who's brother-in-law is a salesman.

Bit of a step back from the 2.2 in the 6 alright but the price point will make it a 1.5 508 allure or nothing. Really like the 6 to be honest and nothing to complain about it for the last 3 years but would like a change of scenery and the 508 is something different from the traditional saloon. Pity the pricing is on the high side a 2.0ltr Diesel GT line would be ideal but out of budget

Congratulations on your purchase, I would like to hear your verdict over the coming weeks in comparison to the Mazda 6 you had, I know you've gone from a 2.0L diesel to the 1.5L diesel, but it would be good to see a comparison on fuel consumption.

Apparently Peugeot Ireland had their official Irish launch of the Peugeot 508 and the Rifter on Tuesday in Hayfield Manor Hotel.

    Thanks Gene

So far so good 1000k clocked up

Comparison so far with the mazda 6

There is a step down on overall power from the 150bhp 2.2 diesel in the 6 to the 1.5 130 bhp in the 508 however in general driving this is not really noticeable, what I do find through is that you do need to keep the 508 in the correct rev range. In the 6 you could power out of a corner or bend regardless almost of gear selection. The 508 is much more sensitive to rev range once you drop below 1500 revs you really have to change up to keep power delivery. But like I said in general driving, overtaking the 1.5 is actually quiet responsive.

Driving while I haven't really tested it the 508 handles really well into & out off corners. This was an area I wasn't really sure of when changing as the 6 is a nice car to handle and hold the road but so far i'd say the 508 is on a similar level.

The refinement in the 508 is much better. Much quieter better sound insulation than the 6 to keep out road noise etc

Interior of the 508 is a really nice place to be the 6 wasn't as well specced. No problem with getting used to the smaller steering wheel. I always found the 6 had really comfortable seats for longer drives. I haven't completed any 2 hrs plus drive in the 508 yet to compare. The seats in the 508 have great adjustment and support and look lovely but are probably firmer than those in the 6 but as I haven't had any long days yet hard to compare.

Great fun playing around with the digital dash but I'd expect that I'll tire of that and just leave it at one display long term. Reversing camera is great (there wasn't even parking sensors on the 6 which was a pain given the 6 is a long car)

No issue connecting phone to car once I figured out that mirror link and android auto only work when connected on one of the 2 USB connections. Kids love the two connections in the rear. Sat Nav on the car TOM TOM is fine not really needed to use it but tried it out on a few trips but with the android auto will prob just use google maps

Fuel consumption a bit too early to tell as of yet. 508 on trip computer is average 5.9 at the moment I haven't done a brim test only 1 fill on top of the half tank that was in it when I collected it. Would expect it to free up a bit as it driven in.

In the last few months the 6's fuel consumption was well down for some reason. It had always averaged out at around the 6.0 ltrs in mixed driving but for the last few months this had slipped to 6.4 ltrs. As I was changing I didn't really investigate as to why.

Happy out so far and the car is getting plenty of admiring comments from people but as they are so few of them around as of yet there is a "new" factor to them.

I wonder how much that will cost considering the most expensive new 508 is just under €50K.

It's currently a concept car, not sure if Peugeot will sell this car in the future.

I was reading this article from Car Magazine here and they think Peugeot will build it, I wonder! We'll see what Peugeot say next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

Yeah, that's what Peugeot Ireland's website says they are, but looking at any one of them as an example, say 124 CO2 isn't €190 it would be more like €270

Has anyone seen pricing for the new 508 fastback PHEV variant?

  • Registered Users Posts: 840 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

Today, Peugeot revealed the new look (facelifted) 508, the front has changed a lot from the current car, the grille is similar to other cars in the range now, but certainly is't going to be mistaken for a 308 coming towards you.

    Peugeot 508

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,271 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd hate to trying to clean all the dead bugs off the front of that grill.

On a side note, it's nice to see a car manufacturer continuing to offer models in this segment rather than just another mundane crossover or coupe inspired suv.

  • Registered Users Posts: 840 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

That's a good point about the grill.

In relation to Peugeot continuing to offer models in the segment, it's so true the whole of this segment is nearly all gone now and I think this 508 model is probably their last one, I've just posted a new thread about the next Insignia HERE mentioning that this segment is dying fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,125 ✭✭✭Explosive_Cornflake

Did anyone hear about when this might be available?

I've had my head in the sand for the last few years, and a 508 SW is probably what I'll get. I'm not in a rush, so I'd prefer to wait for the facelift to be available first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 840 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

I see in the above "Complete Car" article, they say the facelifted model will go on sale in the summer, so if I was to bet on it, I'd say probably earlier August.
