The US political system is a total mess right now. The GOP are determined to block everything. Trump has broken the Supreme Court and the media are straight out of Starship Troopers.

America needs a radical president who is not afraid of using executive orders to push things through but the chances of them electing an actual full on fascist to be the next president are about 50% imo

Again, you're going to need medical evidence to diagnose cognitive decline. To do so, you need to undermine the doctors that sign off on Bidens health every year.

    Not just watching memes, evidence.

You will have none because it doesn't exist.

And you will continue twisting in the wind because of it.

And guess what, there is another thread with an ex president who actually had to take a cognitive test that you can attempt to internet diagnose if you want to.

    But you won't.

It's been like this for decades. It's a completely anti-democratic system designed to concentrate power in the hands of elites. It's showing more cracks now than normal because one of the elites happened to show complete disregard for it.

Age related cognitive decline is not an opinion. It is medically observed reality. Do you deny this?

Some of its symptoms, tripping and falling, spatial confusion, inability to recall names, words etc are evident in Joe Biden. Do you deny this?

That’s my point. The assertion was that any candidate, whomsoever it may be, would be more gaffe prone than Biden. Obviously nonsense.

AFAIK the statement doesn't have anything to do with the queen being alive or not, it's just an old way of saying God help us or something to that effect. Regarding the white house staffer response to a question it was pretty soon afterwards and they just had to come up with something on the fly. You're probably thinking too much into this.

Does age related cognitive decline not come with, you know, age?

Doctors told the American public that FDR was in fine health too, so it must be true.

If an 80 year old relative repeatedly tripped and fell, had difficulty finding words etc, would you advise them to run for president and spend 4 more years in one of the worlds most stressful jobs?

I don’t think Trump or Biden should be running for president.

What a **** show this thread is.

Leader of the free world is clearly showing signs of cognitive decline due to his age (a thing that happens to a lot of people at his age) but a couple of posters decide to derail the whole thread and start talking about the former president which is completely irrelevant.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real thing, this thread is proof of it.

Biden is too old for the job and clearly is showing signs of his age, it's too important a job to have someone with age related issues doing it, the democrats should have been grooming someone from day one to take over from him for this election and have Biden bow out with some dignity and not have an old man who is not up to the fairly stressful nature of this job representing their country on the world stage.

People are ignoring your criticisms of Trump because it has absolutely nothing to do with Joe Biden.

A Joe Biden thread and the first reply is: ‘but trump is a literal nazi’. No point in engaging with that mentality.

I remember Biden on the podium when Obama was inaugurated. The elder statesman guiding the young maverick through his first term.

I don't think any Democrat envisioned Biden standing for President 12 years later. And then having to run for re-election 16 years after Obama's inauguration speech.

Whatever about the GOP, what the hell have the Democrats being doing to build a lasting legacy for the US. They'll be digging up JFK to make run at this rate.

Are you flat out denying that cognition declines with age age and that Biden is showing signs of this decline?

    Really?

    Agree entirely, and well said.

It just shows the decline of boards.ie when a moderator, someone with " Moderators, Category Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators " after his name is the one who said "but Trump is a literal nazi".

Is it good enough that someone who has banned so many from the politics forum should get away with saying "but Trump is a literal nazi". Should he not resign?

They won't answer your question, but I will -- yes, cognition and mental acuity declines with age.

Here is Joe Biden giving an impassioned speech in 1986. What we see in 2023 is a world away from the vim, vigour, and acuity that Biden radiates in this speech.

So nobody can provide a single shred of evidence for this alleged mental decline then. Just confirming.

You are right. If anything he has become more mentally sharp, agile and quick witted over time. Diane Feinstein would be an ideal pick for running mate. 🥱

The ever-increasing rate of gaffes, forgetfulness, memory loss, and losing trains of thought etc. are just a pure coincidence as Biden has aged, then? There's zero correlation between the two?

Because that's what you're asking us to believe.

You talk about evidence, when Biden's words and actions are the evidence itself.

As I said earlier in this thread, if it were a Republican president that said and done the same gaffes, the same voices downplaying it with Biden would instead be all over it like a rash.

So trump is bad because he is a dangerous buffoon and Biden is bad because he is dangerously medically unable

Old man Biden is slipping, nearly gave the game away there. Obviously when the Dems get the guns out of the hands of those true American patriots it will leave the door open for the Queen/King of England to step in and start pushing people around again.

We don’t have access to his medical reports so why would we have proof?

Of course absence of proof isn’t the same as proof of absence. He’s absolutely losing it.

What do you want people to do, hack into his private medical records just so they can prove something to you on this forum?

The same people asking for medical reports to establish whether Joe Biden has experienced cognitive decline at 80, had no problem calling Donald Trump mentally unhinged and deranged, and never asked for medical reports when they established that conclusion.

In other words, the request for Biden's medical reports is a deflection.

Exactly. We all slow down as we age, some more than others.

The issue here is that we have a lot of people describing Biden as dangerously unfit with no evidence whatsoever while defending everything their guy did. There's no sincerity here at all.

The man is too old to be president, so was Ronald Reagan in the past, so is Dianne Feinstein too old to be a senator.

Who the hell is defending "their guy" , this thread is about Biden not someone else.

If you think someone else is too old to be president maybe you should start a thread about that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,425 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

The discussion was about whether Joe Biden is showing signs of cognitive decline.

    I believe he is.

One needn’t continuously compare him to his predecessor to discuss whether Joe Biden shows signs of decline or not.

Do you expect him to have further declined when, if elected, he leaves office at the age of 86?

Amazing how this thread thinks this is Trump's fault.

Unfortunately US political discourse is toxically binary; almost juvenile thinking -- with the parameters framed as "my guy" versus "your guy" (an adult's version of Good versus Evil). Criticising your own side is considered heresy, as well as a loss of face. Invariably then, the conversation descends into ceaseless whataboutery and accusations of hypocrisy; the symptoms of which are visible all over this thread.

Referring back to Donald Trump is about as relevant to Joe Biden's loss of cognition as talking about spaghetti carbonara or Louis Vuitton handbags. There is no link whatsoever. Indeed many of those criticisms of the former may very well be true, but it's also true that Joe Biden is clearly not as sharp as he once was. And that's putting it mildly.

You would have to deny the reality of your own eyes and ears to come to any other, perhaps partisan, conclusion.
